You're not serious are you?

I've just given you a few examples, Danger even said the other day he was playing sore. Do you thinks it's a coincidence his form has just dropped off after receiving consecutive hits to the ribs?

Did you watch Roo in the 2007 Hawks final after going into the game under an injury cloud?

Why did we play Jenkins late last year when he had hurt his ankle?

Some clubs form a view that the output of a quality player even with an injury will be better than a lesser player. I'm pretty sure Choco even said it.

Why do we play any player, because they are declared fit enough to play footy no excuses should be made for them if they arent up to it, then play Greenwood, Dear, Wigg, ROB, Doedee, Beech, Gooch I dont care as long as Im not hearing they are playing poor because they are injured

But saying this dont think the club has ever said that its just some want to make excuses

No different to how we got smashed on the weekend we were soft you started a thread about it, we both know what the other teans will be attempting against us for the remainder of teh year, is it nmental or do we need a more hardened team, it wont be shown against brisbane because they are crap but it will against even a middle of the road opposition

Thsi weeks selection will be a non event, they could bring in Ben Jarman and it wouldnt matter

Among the many reasons not to bring Thommo back, we're not playing the Demons again this week (whom he MAY have been useful against), we're playing the young Brisbane, who aren't known for their physical midfield.

True shouldnt matter who we pick this week, I would be happy to see if Thommo can start being the leading possesion winner in the two's and force his way in, with the fact teams are going to be more physical with us will mean more injuries so he will get his shot

Otten played in defence on the weekend, why didn't we move Charlie up the ground?
Lynch, Walker, Jenkins was our forward line last year with Betts, Cameron, McGovern

Take Cameron and McGovern out of that mix and it looks very slow with zero pressure skills.

Sure, we had an even slower group when Otten was there too but the theory would still hold true.

Rewatched the game in triple speed (fast forward) and it's obvious our game plan needs tweaking.

Highly recommend watching games like that if you want to see the forest from the trees. Although I'm sure most of you could see it anyway.

I don't think we're going to be able to turn ourselves into an unsociable gang - we just don't have the personalities. Can we be harder? Absolutely, we need to be.

Pyke needs to start adapting - he's got a decent sample size now.

Couldn't think of anything worse than rewatching that horse sh** performance

First up Melbourne will not play another game like they did on SAT this year, Don't underestimate how Hogan affected the game.
My Changes for this week -
Lever a definite - he is one that adds heart and toughness to the side.
Otten or JJ for Lever I would go for Otten out as JJ upside and ability to find a way to Kick Goals is more damaging than Otten.
Greenwood for MacKay he offers more Hardness at the ball than MacKay, But more importantly, that move will allow Milera to run thru the middle which is a far better option than MacKay gives. Greenwood also offers the experience that comes with age and top level performance albeit in a different sport. and he knows how to disrupt a tag thru his basketball blocking background.
Possible - Beech for Menzel 50/50 don't see much improvement to the side, either way. Menzel does offer more and both can be defensive. A same as type feel. who offer the most.
Could look at Gallucci for CC if not fit.

But One thing I do know is the Crows are a Young side and a Very young and inexperienced Midfield,
Knight may not be fit enough to play
Cheney is playing SANFL and no chance for the AFL.

No club or players will ever make excuses because of playing injured players. That concedes they made an error.

But in reality some players performances will be diminished and there has been enough evidence over the years to back that up.

Is that an excuse or am I offering an excuse? No, I'm just pointing out reality.

There have been very few criticisms of our selection until last week and even then it was a marginal call regarding the 22nd play picked.

THE MAESTRO has had few options with a group of experienced players injured or not ready yet to play AFL (CEY, Seedsman, Cheney, Thompson). The most experienced player not used is Riley O'Brien who has played 2 games (posters who watch SANFL will confirm that Thommo is not ready and may never be ready to return).

Our KIDS (Gallucci, Poholke, Himmelberg, Signorello and Jarman) are not breaking the door down and Davis has been injured.

That leaves a group of developing players (Wigg, Beech, Doedee, Dear, Gore, Keath, Hunter and The MIGHTY THOR) and IMHO only The MIGHTY THOR is demanding to be selected although you can mount a case for Beech.

Excluding injured players and those coming back from injury, IMHO the players on the edge of selection are Mackay, Kelly, Otten, Menzel and Hampton. If Lever and Knight return this week then two of these players will miss out this week (Let's assume Menzel and Otten but you can make a case for any two of the five players to be dropped. Bringing in say Beech and The MIGHTY THOR will not greatly improve the team but it will give us more options if more players lose form or are injured.

As much as I would like to see Bran Nue Mackae providing run and carry against West Adelaide on Saturday it is very much a 50/50 call.
Good points, explains a lot about selection last week actually.
And also explains why we need to get games into those guys

Wigg was our second round pick of his draft (ahead of Caleb Daniel - ouch!), never on the rookie list to be elevated.

That was the point I was making and I clearly stated Wigg wasn't off the rookie list. There's a difference between NVB being selected for the Gold Coast game and Greenwood overlooked this week for Thommo because the club went to the trouble of elevating Greenwood, which implies he's very close to selection. Last year, there was no similar situation because nobody was elevated from the rookie list to ultimately be shunned in favour of VB.

Well, I'm going to the Gabba this weekend, so I wont be putting up with any similar rubbish like the last 2 weeks. Lions have 3 of their best out, so really, I expect us to hammer them. In saying that, we are expecting a months worth of rain up here over Friday and Saturday.

Yay:oops:

That's a completely different argument, I believe you shouldn't play injured players and if Cameron is injured which I think he is, he should be rested.

Last year we made the mistake of playing injured players and this hurt us in the end when our depth wasn't tested and we couldn't bring anyone up.

Agreed, Cameron doesn't look right and hasn't done for a while, trouble is its getting harder to rest him as too many others queuing up to be dropped.

Agree with the majority of this. Greenwood is a must, taking Hamptons spot in the midfield with Hampton shifting to Mackays more outside role.

1 of Jenkins, Otten or Lynch need to come out for Lever, we need pace and also to make a bit of a statement regarding performance, which is why I'd almost go one of Jenkins or Lynch, as Otten has always been on the edge, it doesn't mean much to shuffle him out.

Menzel will depend on injury and how he pulls up, given that he's now in the side for the 3rd time this year, we actually need to back him in with a 5-6 game block to actually see what a bit of continuity would do for his confidence and form.

Knight I tend to think may need a run in the 2's, out 1 week, poor the next, then out again. Give him a run to gain some touch then back in. No issues though if he is straight back in, similar to Menzel, needs a good run at it.

They pick them as a lot of players are carrying an injury, but that injury is genmerallly not restrictive and the player should be able to perform, which is meant by the term fit to play

We dont know if they genuinelly believed JJ was ready to come back and has just had crap form as he lost his edge in not playing for four weeks or his injury is hurting us, peopel are guessing he must be injured, is there a better in teh two's that will offer more than JJ I would suggest there is but teh Selectors obviously think otherwise

People write about Brown one from last year the club hasnt said he is restricted by it nor the player, if the club has then they were clearly at fault for picking him or if the player has said it restricted him . Clearly you are making assumptions but yes probly 40% maybe even 70% of the team are carrying something but are still well and truly fit to play or we would struggle to ever to put a team on teh park

You have to look at what the opposition are doing and deciding if they will continue to do it, unfortunatly for us with the media highlighting we are suspect to a physical game that is what we are going to cop for the rest of the year one because teh media are beating up on it and two because the unbeatable was beaten with it

They will need a team to cope with it, is the present team capable

I Agree. I Think we brought a physical game from rd 1-6. Our ferocity at the ball/carrier was up on last year, our tackling had improved in both frequency and technique and we werent going to water as soon as any other team had a crack. This vanished vs the Roos and got worse last week. That to me is a mindset issue as much as anything.

Fight fire with fire I say. We have proven we can get through and win games where physical pressure is applied.

It wasn't particularly prevalent in the first quarter against Richmond either. But luckily the amount of Richmond players appearing on the TV screen when the ball was in dispute diminished from the 2nd quarter onwards.
