I hope you’re all having an enjoyable night, and remember the bar will be open all night. We have a large array of drinks on offer, and our beer is the best in the SFA…

Lets move on to the next of the minor awards for the night folks…

Next up I will be awarding the Captains Award…

This award is jointly named by myself and Blaze Storm to recognise a player who goes above and beyond during the season to assist when required. This year this player took it upon himself to do many tasks, not just in the season, but also throughout the off season too, making the captains job a lot easier. Helping not just the club run smoothly, but the league as a whole. Again, this was a hard award to decide, but in the end the award is well deserved. Again, it was hard to decide with a number of contenders for the award, however, we eventually decided upon a worthy recipient. Congratulations Pie 4 Life , and thanks mate!

Pie 4 Life you were an absolute champ all through the season!

Round 9: Dragons FFC v Baghdad Bombers

Venue: Dragon Island

In an enthralling contest that stayed tight throughout the affair, it was the Dragons that came out on top starting off the second half of the season in the right fashion. With neither side giving an inch to the other, it was always going to come down to who wanted the victory more. With the home crowd behind them in the last, we held off a spirited Bombers side 96-93 celebrating long into the night.

Standout performers on the day were WFL with 23 disposals, 10 tackles and a goal, and good captains performances from Blaze Storm with 7 hitouts, 22 disposals to go with his 3 goals, while Hatchy1992 collected 25 of his own to goal with a goal, while PhenomenalV1 finished with 2 goals of his own against his former club.

Round 10: Roys FFC v Dragons FFC

Venue: Brunswick Junction Oval

Another tough match loomed the following week as we travelled down to take on fellow top 4 contenders, the Roys down in Brunswick. It was a tough ask, but as we always did, we held no fear going into the match. While for the majority it was a seesawing contest it was the Dragons who were the fitter of the 2 sides going into the final quarter as we kicked away to come away with a 26 point victory, 110-136. Setting the foundations for the run home into the finals.

Standout performers on the day were PhenomenalV1 with a massive 8 goals, Blaze Storm with a huge 21 hitouts giving the Dragons first use of the ball, 29 disposals and a goal of his own, and not to be outdone mike123 with 20 disposals and 2 goals of his own against his former club.

Another deserving winner. Congrats Pie 4 Life.

Round 11: Dragons FFC v Coney Island Warriors

Venue: Dragon Island

The Dragons came into this match on a high from a big morale boosting victory the week before t take on a struggling Warriors outfit at our own home ground. While it was the Warriors who were almost taking it to the Dragons making us earn it for most of the match, a strong final quarter saw us come away with the 4 points in a 102-82 victory.

Strong performers on the day were WFL with 28 disposals and 11 tackles, Blaze Storm with 11 hitouts and 23 disposals of his own, and PhenomenalV1 with consecutive bags, kicking 6 this week.

Round 12: Dragons FFC v Las Vegas Bears

Venue: Dragon Island

The Dragons came into this match on the back of a 3 match winning streak and high on confidence, however the Bears didn’t look to shabby either, coming into the match, having beaten a top 4 contender in the Wonders the week before. The Dragons had further reasons to want to win, with club and league legend LJP86 playing his 400th game. It was the Dragons who came out to a flyer with the home crowd behind them, and by half time were leading by a good 6 goals, it was seemingly ours to lose. The Bears weren’t to be outdone however, and were steadfast on raining on the Dragons parade, reducing the margin to 4 at 3 quarter time. However, the challenge would end there, with the home team kicking away in the last to further our streak to 4 on the trot with a final scoreline of 106-79.

Standouts on the field were ALL SFA ruck contender, Blaze Storm with 8 hitouts and 29 disposals, Chefmeister with 22 disposals and 4 tackles, and co captain Hatchy1992 putting on a decent shift with 24 disposals and a goal.

After another month of qooty lets have a look at the leaderboard for the medal count…

Blaze Storm – 249

PhenomenalV1 – 146

WFL - 134

cammo6556 – 99

With only a month to go in the home and away season it looks to be Blaze Storms award to lose from here, a long way ahead of the next contender in PhenomenalV1, however a new contender in the ever reliable WFL has popped up out of nowhwere with a strong month and consistent top votes.

Round 13: Gumbies FFC v Dragons FFC

Venue: The House of Gumby

The in form Dragons travelled across the sea to the house of Gumby to take on a struggling Gumby’s side with every reason to be confident heading into this one, with the home side coming off a 3 game losing streak, while the Dragons were the opposite end of the spectrum, having won 4 in a row. For much of the game it had been going to script with the Dragons having better use of the qootball and capitalising on the scoreboard. However, the last quarter was a different story, with the Gumbies snatching the lead off the Dragons at one point, seemingly with all of the momentum. The game went down to the last minute before a composed finished by the experienced A Swallow handing us back the lead, and the game to win by less then a goal, 100-95.

Standouts on the field were club legend Ljp86 with 26 disposals and 4 goals, VSTone pinch hitting in the ruck, managing 10 hitouts, 23 disposals and a goal, and co captain Hatchy1992 coming back to haunt his former club with 24 disposals and a solitary goal.

Round 14: East Side Hawks v Dragons FFC

Venue: Waverly Park

Both teams came into this one with reason to be confident, the Dragons on the back of a 5 game wining streak, being unbeaten in the 2nd half of the seaso, sitting nicely at 4th, while the Hawks had a handy record against the Dragons, and sitting pretty at 2nd. The Hawks started the game on fire with confidence sky high, kicking to a handy 5 goal lead at half time with no signs of slowing down. However, whatever the captains said at half time must have struck a chord with the team as we climbed back into the game in the 3rd, reducing the margin to 7 going into the final break. The final quarter was a tight affair for most of it, with the Hawks doing their best to hold off a fast finishing Dragons outfit, but to no avail as Jatz, PhenomenalV1 and AmericanCrow kicked away to give us a critical 4 points, breaking the hearts of the home side.

The Dragons had many standout performers on the day, but top 3 were Pie 4 Life with a whopping 26 disposals and a goal to go with it, mike123 with 21 of his own and 3 goals, and Blaze Storm with a respectable 14 hitouts, 26 disposals, and a goal of his own.

It's probably been about 10 seasons since I won an award, so very honoured. Thanks all, have enjoyed the season and it will go very nicely next to my best and fairest once we start with the real votes.

Round 15: Dragons FFC v Fighting Furies

Venue: Dragon Island

The Dragons came into this one full of confidence after knocking off their bitter rivals and fellow top 4 contenders at their own home turf, while the Furies were coming into this one in inconsistent form, winning only 2 of their past 5 matches. In a dominant 4 quarter display we held off a fast finishing Furies side in the final quarter to end the match 105-67, and extend our unbeaten run in the competition to 7 straight.

In a brilliant captains display and one of the best performances all season, Blaze Storm dominated with 17 hitouts, 32 disposals and 4 goals, mike123 capped off a good day in the midfield with 24 disposals, 8 tackles and 2 goals of his own, while Pie 4 Life finished off a good day with 21 disposals and a tackle to go with it.

Round 16: Gold City Royals v Dragons FFC

Venue: The Golden Throne

The Dragons travelled to the Golden Throne to take on a hungry Royals outfit whose equation was simple, win to play finals, while the Dragons had already guaranteed a home final, but wanted to bring the minor premiership back to Dragon Island. It was a closely fought contest throughout the game with several lead changes throughout. Unfortunately for the Royals, that was where their finals chances ended, as the Dragons capped off a brilliant season with a strong final term to bring home the win and a home final.

For the Dragons, best performers on the day were The Half Back with a rare furay into the midfield to finish with 25 disposals and his second tag for the Ljp86 award ceremony night, WFL with 21 disposals and 2 goals, and finally, and Determinant with 18 disposals to go with 5 tackles.

Blaze Storm – 325

WFL - 191

PhenomenalV1 – 157

Blaze Storm just about has his first LJP86 award pencilled in while fan favourite WFL has jumped up into second place just ahead of the Phenom, while mike123 leapfrogs Cammo to round out the top 4.

Qualifying Final: Dragons FFC v East side Hawks

Venue: Dragon Island

The Dragons came into the match on the back of an unbeaten 8 game run with the clear momentum at their back, whilst the Hawks had more of a stutter form wise coming into it. While we got the run early with the opening goals of the game, the Hawks slowly found their feet. At halftime it was anyones game, but the 3rd quarter anything but as the Hawks kicked off to a 4 goal buffer and we never found our groove again. The final quarter was a chance to put some more respect into the scoreline but that was it, as the Dragons succumbed to a 6 goal defeat and forced to back up the next week as the Hawks enjoyed a week off.

Blaze Storm enjoyed a dominant display with 15 hitouts and 25 disposals, kicking 2 goals himself, while mike123 continued a fine run of form with 22 disposals, 5 tackles and a goal, whilst PhenomenalV1 finished with 3 majors.

Semi Final: Dragons FFC v Baghdad Bombers

Venue: Dragon Island

Sudden death footy, with a preliminary final at stake. While the Dragons had the home support, the Bombers had another reason, to go the 3 peat, however there was only going to be one winner. Dragons full forward, PhenomenalV1 was keen to see his former club bomb out (pun not intended) and deny the 3 peat, kicking 4 majors for the day. His 4 goals setting the tone for Dragons, however we succumbed to the early deficit, but Phenom kicking 2 majors towards the end of the first quarter to put us back in the game. The 2nd quarter was a see sawing contest with Phenom slotting back to back majors at the end of the quarter to give us the lead going into the main break. Those goals were enough to give us enough momentum to kick away in the 2nd half, denying the Bombers the 3 peat, and giving us a preliminary finals appearance.

For the Dragons, mike123 had a good day with 22 disposals, 6 tackles and a goal, while Hatchy1992 had a good captains display with 25 disposals and a goal, while @PhemomenalV1 slotted 4 majors to put the nail in the coffin for the Bombers season.

Preliminary final: Roys FFC v Dragons FFC

Venue: Brunswick Junction Oval

Everyone loves a preliminary final, and what a week it was! One of the more enjoyable match threads of the season, and im sure everyone that participated could attest to that. The enthralling contest was just the icing on the cake.

The first half provided for one of the more even contests of the season as both sides went in even at the main break and neither side wanting to give an inch. Unfortunately th 2nd half was anything but, as we succumbed to an almost unstoppable Roys outfit to succumb to a 40 point loss, and with that our season had come to an end.

For the Dragons, VSTone had a day out with 24 disposals and 2 goals, whilst mike123 enjoyed a successful day out against his former club, with 24 of his own, whilst cammo6556 finished with 22 of his own and a goal.

So with the conclusion of the vote count, it’s time to head to the bar for a quick drink break before we announce the place getters in the race to the much coveted season 25 LJP86 award!
