the biggest blight on his career is that he’s never won the brett kirk medal tbh
Those goal of the year awards too, really an incomplete career without those 2.

Yep. Just wish he didn't disappear for 6 seasons on the Gold Coast.
I would say the biggest blight on his career is more the fact that he is a horrible hateful person.
just had a look on buddy’s wikipedia page, “Not a horrible hateful person” isn’t part of his listed career achievements, so don’t piss on me and tell me it’s rainingI would say the biggest blight on his career is more the fact that he is a horrible hateful person.
Also way harder to be an AA as a key forward than as a midfielder. Only 2 key forwards get picked a year, while there can be as many as about 15 positions for midfielders.

Yep. I don't begrudge Gold Coast's existence and didn't begrudge Ablett going there (show me someone who turns down a pay raise of that scale and I'll show you a liar) but having Ablett's talents wasted (and worse, unseen) at that club for 6 years is genuinely sad for the game. Whether anyone likes him as a bloke or not, everyone has to admit he is potentially the GOAT and as a pure fan of football it's so much better seeing him on a big stage in a good side as opposed to trying to carry a cellar-dweller on his back in front of 10,000 people up North.
You were wise to omit AA captain, as it would have reminded us how farcical some of these awards are.Franklin
15 positions for midfielders..
There’s about 8-10 picked in the AA out of about 160 midfielders playing every week (5% chance) in the league compared to 2-3 key forwards picked out of say 20-30 first choice key forwards (10% chance).
You are forgetting that midfielders are often selected as halfbacks and forwards as well, despite having not played there during the season. The AFL just loves stuffing midfielders into AA teams.

So are you trying to say that if the AA selectors were limited to, say, 4 spots for pure midfielders, Ablett would have missed out a few times? Because I suspect that wouldn’t have been the case, considering he’s been basically the clear-cut best in the position for all 8 of those selections
I am not saying he would haven missed out much, but there were probably 2 or 3 years in his AA selections where he was not in the top 5 or so midfielders in that group.
Which ones? There are about 5 seasons where he is the first midfielder picked.I am not saying he would haven missed out much, but there were probably 2 or 3 years in his AA selections where he was not in the top 5 or so midfielders in that group.
Yeah, no there wasn’t.
2007 was a bit borderline. A debate could be made for 2008 and 2014 as well (the last one because he missed 30% of the season through injury).
Based on liking a social media comment that urged people to repent so they could go to heaven.
Yep.
He’s an ogre.
