James Stewart's name has been bandied around as a potential trade out of GWS this coming off season.
Can anyone share any news as to which clubs may be interested in trading for him and what his trade value could be?
GWS supporters share some thoughts on which position Stewart may be best suited to as well as some strengths and weaknesses.

I'd be interested in his services from a Hawthorn perspective.

Genuine Ruck/Forward potential. Probably not good enough as a specialist in either, but combine both, he offers a bit.
With Hawthorn's interest in Vickery seemingly pretty concrete, not sure the Hawks will be considering him

Passable to good forward. Indifferent ruck. A 2017 second rounder would probably get him with no worries if he wanted out, simply because just about every team wants forwards. It'd probably be a third rounder if he was out of contract.

From the GWS website
"Another talented tall who found it tough to play quality football on a consistent basis in the seniors, despite fantastic form in the NEAFL. Stewart threatened at times to have a breakout game, but it never eventuated and he spent several stints in the NEAFL. Used as a permanent forward with some pinch-hitting in the ruck. If he can start taking more grabs and finding more of the ball as a key forward, a spot will open up in the forward line for the versatile tall."

Not exactly a glowing reference. Academy points cut out at Pick 73. Anything before that would be OK

He's a fwd who could maybe swing back if needed, wouldnt want to rely on him playing ruck for much. I liken him to Simon Beaumont.
How is he at the HF / leading forward role?
Given we have zero depth in the area (hence chasing Cloke) we're probably going to consider anyone taller than 6 foot whose surname doesn't rhyme with "lickery".

Saddens me that it's now likely that I will have to put up with these jokes :(

...not to mention lickery himself

From what I can tell he is out of contract

From May 11
"Winning Whitfield's signature is a significant coup for the Giants, who will now turn their attention to out-of-contract youngsters Caleb Marchbank, James Stewart and Jack Steele."

I can't find any news of him re-signing, and if he has signed since May this thread become pointless.

Pies apparently have sounded him out and would like to develop him into 2/3rd forward option.

Chf is probably his best position, he's quite mobile and a decent kick. He is probably the most like replacement we have for him Cameron which is why he is stuck in the 2's. Club would probably prefer to keep him for depth but it would be up to him, he's never appeared to be unhappy about being in Sydney.

You're right, I'll update the title.

Probably only a late future 2nd rounder at best then.
