Traded Lachie Young [traded in a three-way trade to North Melbourne]

Seems like a shrewd bit of list management. We could not fill the list with 18 year old's so to add some depth with someone who has a bit of potential is a nice outcome. No guarantees he will amount to anything but pretty happy to take a flier.

Does not appear as though the Dogs will miss him too much, wouldn't be surprised if this is settled early in the week.

I'll bet he plays 100+ AFL games. Has real potential.

That explains why so many north fans overrate the young players on their list. Players like Dumont, Atley, Kayne Turner et al have gotten cool highlight mixes that stir up the diehards

It did amuse me you basically named the whipping boy three here.

The rules from the CBA seem fairly straight forward.

Unsurprisingly it looks like the journo's have misreported this. The below reads like it's irrelevant whether he was offered a senior spot following being offered a rookie spot.

If he rejected the rookie contract, he automatically becomes a FA.

"A player who is a second year Rookie Player and receives an offer from his Current Club to be retained as a third year Rookie Player"

Journos are right

Talk about selective reading..what about the rest of that sentence lol..

"But does not accept that offer" is irrelevant, the criteria was the offer had to be for a rookie spot.

Yes.

There's talk that it may have been a rookie offer THEN a senior list offer.

If a rookie offer came first and was rejected, he's automatically a FA, regardless of what came afterwards.

The initial offer was certainly insufficient enough for he and his manager to jump at the North offer.

This will certainly be interesting, as it seems the first of it's type under this rule, especially seeing as the Dogs are disputing the contract offer.

Oh I understand what you mean. I hadn't seen it reported that the senior contract came after a rookie offer

Liked the very small amount I saw of him in 2020, looks like an absolute running machine.

Not a lot lost here for North Melbourne, it's a pretty astute piece of list management IMO.

Lets call a spade a spade here. He looked like absolute s**t and no one ever playing a pick up game for example would pick this guy up ahead of the good players they are tossing aside like Brown/Higgins/Polec/Pittard and co

He's a 21 year old kid with 8 senior games under his belt.

Pittard is awful and North lose absolutely nothing by giving this guy a go ahead of him, both on the list and in the 22 if he gets there.

He's not competing with Brown/Higgins/Polec for a spot.

#Niddies

Why the hell should North give up anything for a player your mob was planning to delist anyway ? Sheesh

They weren’t delisting him, that’s the whole point of the rule.

They offered him a rookie contract, we offered him a main list one.

and if it turns out under the rule north gets him free, so be it.

he’s more Nathan Hrovat than Shaun Higgins. Hrovat had shown more though.

that said, a fourth round pick would do if the ruling goes our way

Being young isn’t a automatic reason for becoming good or becoming better

They are paying Pittard a s**t ton to not be in there list and devoting said list spot to a guy whose really not shown that much at all IMO

They need to be targeting a higher caliber of player then this really

Ah right, apologies and red face to ManOfClay then.

Can't recall something like this happening before, have no idea what the trade or signing protocol is on a situation like this.

It's the sort of thing that will get done either way. If Young and his agent can present proof he was offered a third year on the rookie list and then decided to take up his free agency rights, he'll walk for free. If the Dogs can present the offer was a senior list upgrade then we'll trade a late pick or pick upgrade in good faith.

The Dogs and North usually deal well though.

What do you mean we are paying Pittard a s**t ton to to be there?

He was out of contract and secondly Port were paying part of his wage anyway.

Yep I don't see this becoming anything nasty. His value will be minimal at trade and North would likely throw us a late pick with some nominal points value if it gets to that. I feel like our clubs may have bigger fish to fry as you're one of the likely teams eyeing off our pick 12 which could be used to enable the Brown deal or just outright traded up to by North

You have no idea do you?

Pittard is out of contract, that means we don’t pay anything.

Up until this thread was posted, my bet is you knew less about this player than I did, and that was nothing.

Go play in Bay 13 with your trolling crap, this is where the adults talk.
