We managed to get the words "Are you interested in Matt Crouch..." out before teams hung up on us, that's classified as interest in media circles. For what it's worth, I can with absolute confidence say this isn't true.
Matt was brought up with every other team in the league and he wasn't of interest to anyone, even for free. That comes from an actual source.
Bickley on 5aa across a few episodes about halfway thru the year seemed to say
Crouch and Laird are going for the one spot. Accumulator. Laird was better so he's in and Matt's out. Should a form reversal happen I assume Matt would be in and Laird would be out. Keay's role is different.
Also, that the club had basically dropped Crouch to make room for young mids to get gametime and experience. This was apparently an urgent need identified by the club. (So much for DABM's whinge that we don't identify players and play them).
There was a door left open for Crouch though, that when the young mids had got to an adequate level, we wouldn't rule out having the two accumulators again, provided that was getting the best overall performance of the team. The scenario painted was where the young mids would be capable at the contests since they knew the drill but that if Crouch was back in, he might be his normal self and dominate on the inside and then dish to those faster, harder running young mids. On the flip, if the tap didn't go down to our mids, or their midfield got it, we needed our young mids to be able to be competitive against the oppo (with our methods) and that was one of the key levels they had to reach before we could go back to having Crouch in there. If that makes sense. They seemed unsure if we'd reach that level by the end of the 23 season, leaving Crouch in a lot of limbo if he stayed.
It's nice to know it was worth itHow long did DABM have to whinge before they finally decided to adopt his preferred course of action though?
Agree. If he can be more creative with the possessions he gets there's a place for him in the team.I think the only way to save Crouch career is for him to become an absolute tank with a clearing handball.
He will never have speed so he can forget trying to get quicker.
He does have very broad shoulders though and if he can add 5kg of muscle and work like crazy on his handballing, maybe he can stand up in tackles more and be the guy that can pick the perfect outside option with slick handball.
What he can't be, is another player that just hand balls to the player next to him, we have plenty of those.

MaybeSo, does Crouch have a future at the club?

He put up a good argumentSo, does Crouch have a future at the club?
It stuck out. When Sloane came on we started to lose the midfield battle.I think we looked okay with Crouch and without Sloane
Didn't like the early parts of the 3rd when Sloane came on and went into the midfield. Improved when we hid Sloane up forward
