After watching the Giants and Washington game it is not a surprise the Giants have benched Eli Manning especially if his last few games were anything like that game.

McAdud and Reese goneski...

The Giants have fired a coach mid-season for the first time since 1976, when Bill Arnsparger was let go seven games into his third season with a 7-28 (.200) record.
LeRoy Andrews in 1930 was the only other Giants coach released in season. Jim Fassel announced his own firing with two games left in 2003 but coached the last two games.

Only 10 of Reese’s 43 draft picks from 2010-2015 remain on the team. And his refusal this offseason to upgrade the offensive line was nothing short of malpractice. He was spared two years ago when Tom Coughlin was shown the door but couldn’t survive a second plummeting of the team on his watch.

Giants interim GM Kevin Abrams will be a candidate for the full-time job.

Co-owner John Mara made the disclosure at Monday's presser discussing the firings of Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese. Abrams had been serving as assistant general manager. We would consider Abrams, who spent the past 16 years as Reese's right-hand man, an unlikely candidate to get the job. Abrams interviewed for the Lions' GM opening in 2016.

Giants DC Steve Spagnuolo will take over as the interim coach following Ben McAdoo's firing.

Kevin Abrams will serve as the interim general manager. With the Giants seemingly looking to turn the page, neither is likely to get a real shot at the permanent job.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports Eli Manning is expected to get back his starting job following the firing of Ben McAdoo.

This is not a surprise since the gross mishandling of Eli's benching contributed to McAdoo's and GM Jerry Reese's ouster. Considering the hit ownership took following his benching, it is likely Manning will keep the job the rest of the season. That said, his future with the Giants remains murky.

Giants fired GM Jerry Reese.

The Giants usually opt for the status quo over new blood, especially in the front office, but this change simply had to be made. After a successful start to his tenure which included two Super Bowls in five years, the Giants have tanked under Reese the last five seasons as he continually failed to address issues on the offensive line and, aside from last year, the defense while struggling in the draft. He appeared to right the ship last season with several hits in free agency and the draft to help shore up the defense, but things fell apart again this year. In all, Reese finishes his 11-year tenure with a 90-82 record and two rings.

Giants fired coach Ben McAdoo.

Following the disastrous mishandling of Eli Manning's benching, it had become clear all the hair gel in the world was not going to save McAdoo's job. While the coach did shepherd the team to a playoff berth last season, his offense was dreadful even as the Giants were winning, and those struggles continued this season even before injuries struck. If the losses were not enough, McAdoo was forced to suspend both Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Janoris Jenkins this season, suggesting there were serious problems in the locker room. Put frankly, this move had to be made. It would be surprising if McAdoo is considered for another head coaching job in the near future.

Speaking Monday, Giants co-owner John Mara said he "certainly" expected Odell Beckham to be a part of the team's future, but that he would discuss it with the new general manager.

If a discussion is needed, that will be a red flag. 25-year-old Beckham is one of the most transcendent talents in all of football. It's frankly embarrassing the Giants haven't already locked him up beyond 2018. The Giants' obsession with allowing that Beckham could be part of their problems is downright bizarre. Hopefully the new leadership can see more clearly on the issue.

So with Eli back in, we basically let McAdoo make one last farcical decision to end his streak purely for one week of Geno Smith. Every single person associated with the Giants came out and said it was handled poorly but McAdoo came out and said no regrets

And that was the bottom line. He was a humbled coach last year learning his trade, but from day 1 of this year, day 1, he let his ego take over. He made awful decisions and then put them on others. He lay all the blame at the feet of Eli and the Defence.

This was all done to avoid a fan backlash for the last 3 divisional home games to end the year. If this was handled properly, why would we have needed to have seen Geno. We shouldve rather been preparing Webb and using Eli to do it rather than alienate him.

It will be interesting to see what happens from here, and as much as I hate tanking, San Frans win opened up more doors for us

Eli is fading so while I didn't like the way it was handled, I didn't mind Smith and Davis getting a go. Wouldn't be starting them though.

Saying goodbye to Reese is by far a more significant call. About frigging time.

According to PFT's Mike Florio, ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman's name is "already making the rounds in some league circles as the most likely candidate" for the Giants' GM vacancy.

Gettleman was a surprise late-summer firing in Carolina back in July. He's known as a solid talent evaluator and drafter, but Gettleman didn't have great relationships with veteran players in Carolina. Maybe it was a learning experience for the 66-year-old. Before landing the GM job in Carolina back in 2013, Gettleman worked in the Giants' front office under now-fired GM Jerry Reese.

Agree with a few of the commentary going around atm asking why start Eli now. May as well find out if Webb can play. If new coach wants Eli he knows what he’s getting already.

Sounds like a real gettleman.

Sounds like a real gettleman.

The bloke is a hard arse but he is a bloody hard worker who knows how to build a team through the draft and uses his head over heart in contract situations (hence some poor relationships with the veterans on our team), id much rather a GM who will upset and few and do whats best for the team than someone who's going to hand out million dollar cheques based on what a player has done in the past compared to what they can do in the future.

I can't speak highly enough about him, we should have never let him go. Teams should be banging down his door. Would be a fantastic hire for the Giants.

I agree and would swap him with Jerry Jones in a heartbeat.

Being nice and recruiting Puppets in your coaching staff to pull your own personal strings while paying players for what they did 5+ years ago is BS and kills franchises.

GMen have done the right thing and good on them.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman is the "early favorite" for the Giants' opening.

The Giants were going to interview John Dorsey this week, but Cleveland beat them to the punch. That leaves Gettleman as the best name on the open market right now, but Rapoport reports the Giants are willing to wait until the end of the season in order to interview candidate currently employed by other teams. Gettleman would fit the bill as a Giants hire after spending 15 years with the organization including as the director of pro personnel before leaving for Carolina.

The Giants interviewed VP of Player Evaluation Marc Ross for their GM vacancy.

A member of the Giants' organization since 2007, Ross has interviewed for countless GM openings around the league over the last half decade. He was once viewed as the eventual successor to Jerry Reese, who was fired two weeks ago. Ross' interview satisfies the Rooney Rule for the Giants. Ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman is still considered the frontrunner to replace Reese.

The Giants interviewed ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman for their general manager vacancy on Wednesday.

Owner John Mara and adviser Ernie Accorsi are leading the hiring process. They should have a pretty good familiarity with Gettleman after he previously worked for the Giants, and Accorsi was the one who recommended Gettleman for the Panthers' job that Gettleman eventually got. For now, Gettleman remains the favorite to get the Giants' gig over in-house executive Marc Ross.

The Giants will interview ESPN analyst Louis Riddick for their GM vacancy.

The interview was first hinted at by NFL Network's Kimberly Jones, then confirmed by SNY's Ralph Vacchiano. Riddick, 48, played safety in the NFL and previously held front-office positions with the Eagles and Redskins, mainly working as a scout. His interview is expected to take place on Thursday. Riddick is one of the sharpest football analysts in media today. He is vying with in-house candidate Marc Ross and current presumed favorite Dave Gettleman for the job. Giants interim GM Kevin Abrams is expected to get a token interview at some point.

In a record-setting four months of franchise humiliation, the locker room finally fractured Tuesday when Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins, the Giants’ second-best player after Odell Beckham Jr., went on ESPN radio in New York and called teammate Eli Apple a “cancer” who needs to be sent on his way off the team.

It doesn’t get any stronger. It doesn’t get any worse. Infighting is the last sign of a shattered team.

"There’s one corner that has to establish and needs to grow, and we all know who that is,” Collins said. “That would be the only person I would change out of our secondary group. The other two guys — DRC and Jackrabbit — I love those two guys. They play hard. They love what they do. But, that first pick, he’s a cancer.”

That first pick is Apple.

Collins could have just called him a bad apple.

He called him a cancer.

Annnnnnnnd right on cue...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/12/27/giants-suspend-eli-apple-for-week-17/

“We have suspended Eli for a pattern of behavior that is conduct detrimental to the team,” interim General Manager Kevin Abrams said.

Apple, a 2016 first-round pick, has had a series of issues with the team this year and was called a “cancer” by safety Landon Collins in a radio interview earlier this week. Collins apologized for that on Wednesday after meeting with Apple and interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo, but attempts by the media to hear from Apple were shot down by the corner telling reporters he had to “take a s—.”

Giants hired ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman as general manager.

With the Giants from 1998-2012, Gettleman is returning home after his stunning firing from the Panthers five months ago. Gettleman developed a reputation as an excellent talent evaluator in New York before quickly turning a top-heavy Panthers roster into a Super Bowl contender. His firing in Carolina was seemingly over his reluctance to extend aging players. He will have many decisions to make in that department in New York, first and foremost the Giants future of Eli Manning. Gettleman, of course, also needs to find a new head coach, something he was not tasked with in Carolina.

--------------------------

CBS's Jason La Canfora reports the Giants are expected to name ex-Panthers GM Dave Gettleman their next general manager.

The former, longtime Giants executive has always been something of a favorite to replace Jerry Reese. Gettleman spent 1998-2012 in the Giants' front office before leaving for Carolina. Over five months later, his Panthers firing still makes little sense. Gettleman would be a "steady hand" hire for an organization that prides itself on trying to have a steady hand.
