Analysis Our forward line - KPF depth?

Can Bellchambers actually lead at the ball and get separation from his defender? From memory all he can really do is stand still and jump off the ground with both feet and put his hands up?

He showed he kinda could. Did it well against Ben Reid and Alipate Carlile in recent years.
Or Eddy (again)
Too old now. Doesn't have the wheels either. Do you know how old Barns is? North Adelaide's website doesn't include the DOB

Think he is only 20/21 iirc. He and Darcy Cameron will be sought after as a Ben Brown finally developed type of player
Certainly looks promising. Except he's only had double figure hitouts twice.

Whats peoples thoughts of us drafting the next small indigenous gun fwd coming through? (are there any this year?)...we have lacked x factor up forward. With Hooker coming back, Joey, Brown and TBC I think we can make that area work with the right combination. Laverde, Fantasia, Langford, maybe Jobe, and resting mids have mediums sized players covered. We need an Eddie Betts, Cyril type up there IMO but I guess they are hard to find.

In no case do we trade away our first pick for next year.

Is reserved for Tom De Koning, 197cm KPF from the Stingrays.

Kicked 9 the other week and can take a contested grab. Plays out of the goal square exactly like Tom Lynch (GC) does.

Will more than likely require an early (top 5) pick next year.

One which I sincerely hope we don't have.

Was more in reference to us not wanting to trade away next years for a package deal for a guy like Tomlinson
He'll be at Carlton anyway.

Our forward line is the least of our issues at present. Daniher & Brown are doing an admiral job considering the manner that the ball is coming in. Our entries are either directly turned over, really shallow and easy to intercept or bombed up high balls which gives the defenders ample time to make easy spoils.

Our lack of scoring issues is the direct result of our on ball brigade not hitting the scoreboard anywhere near enough. Yes, they have all racked up huge possessions but they are mainly in the defensive half where they share the ball ad nauseam. They just don't push hard enough into dangerous positions forward of centre when we're moving forward. 20 goals from our main mids & rucks is together with Freo the worst return from that area in the league.

Zaharakis - 5 goals (kicked goals in only 3 games)
Goddard - 1 goal (enough said)
Merrett - 4 goals (kicked goals in only 3 games)
Cooney - 3 goals
Bird - 1 goal
Parish - 5 goals (2 of them kicked on the weekend as a forward)
Leuenberger/Jamar - 1 goal between them and that was on the weekend.

Examples (On Ball including wings):
Adelaide - 31 (Sloane 7, Douglas 7, Atkins 4, Smith 4, Thompson 2, Seedsman 5, Jacobs 2)
Brisbane - 51 (Zorko 15, Taylor 11, Christensen 7, Hanley 7, Rich 6, Bastinac 3, Martin 2)
Port Adel - 39 (Wines 7, Boak 7, Gray 8, Ebert 8, Broadbent 5, Hartlett 3, Trengove 1)
GWS - 44 (Scully 12, Ward 7, Coniglio 7, Shiel 5, Kelly 6, Whitfield 4, Mumford 3)
Melbourne - 47 (Tyson 7, Viney 6, Jones 5, Vince 5, Kennedy 11, Oliver 4, Gawn 9)
Richmond - 32 (Miles 7, Edwards 6, Grigg 6, Lambert 5, Martin 4, Cotchin 3, Hampson 1)
Collingwood 36 (Treloar 7, Sidebottom 6, Pendlebury 6, Greenwood 5, Crisp 4, Adams 3, Grundy 5)
West Coast - 41 (Naitanui/Lycett 17 goals between them)
W Bulldogs - 42
Geelong - 41 (Smith/Stanley 15)
North Melb - 51 (Goldstein 13)

As expected, our tall forwards are now starting to function better with leading patterns and guarding space etc for each other. Daniher & Brown have kicked 10 goals between them the last two matches and that will improve. Fantasia has been creative with 9 goals and Langford not too bad with 6.

Come on mids start hitting the scoreboard.

I would only consider trading next year's first rounder for Patton this year, and that is dependent on whether we get all of our guns of the 12 back, how much money he'd cost, and how much progression Hartley has made by the end of the season.

Even then, it's a tough call because he's playing third fiddle to Cameron and Lobb in the Giants' forwardline which is minimizing his impact and making it tough to determine how badly he will be affected long-term by his injuries.

Earlier on the year when without Cameron he was playing deeper and seemed to be generating 3 shots a week.

At this point my preference for next year is to just play Hooker forward with Hartley & Hurley back but obviously that's subject to change with so much time between now and then.

This is an issue but not a cause.
Ball goes deep inside our defence and takes time to get it out. So outside of our defensive 50 we have on avg about 6 n opposition has 8-10.
It's so hard to get the ball fwd, any over lap can only move it so far.
Our only chance is to back our defenders and may lead to higher scores but it will atleast give us more oppurtunities to score ourselves because we can spread our footballers more over ground instead of every player in 1 half of the ground.
We don't have the fitness to play deep presses (top ups and kids without many preseasons).

Last night showed the blueprint for what should be our forward combo next year should be. Daniher played his second best game of the year just playing CHF, Brown should have kicked 2 to go along with his impressive marking around the ground and Jamar was taking good marks one-on-one (Bellchambers in this role). Fantasia needs to play forward as well IMO. What we should see is:

HF: Langford - Brown - Daniher
FF: Fantasia - Bellchambers - Colyer

You can rotate players like Parish, Watson, Goddard, Laverde etc through there too.

Patton is a go to guy. Someone you build a forward line around. Think Hogan. Think Tex Walker. Think Josh Kennedy.

He is a completely different style of players to Cameron but both are number 1 forward types. With Cameron the more established of the two.

Want Patton but then again, Majak Daw could give us similar output without costing nearly as much.

FF: Colyer - Daw - Langford
HF: Brown - Daniher - Fantasia

Or alternatively trade for Patton and look like this

FF: Colyer - Patton - Langford
HF: Brown - Daniher - Fantasia

Hopefully our coaches watched the Western Bulldogs yesterday and took notes.

All their forwards led into space and the delivery was in front of the player.

Leuenberger and Jamar with 4 goals between them at half time. One of the rarest things you'll ever see in an Essendon side.

Who knew Russian lung butter could taste so good.
