Guy up the st in a shop who I talk Ports with most days. Always backed Ken in. Seeing Ken on the couch the other night arm relaxed out says all it needs to say, it’s all too comfortable and relaxed.

He’s finally on the side of maybe we need a new coach, the tide is turning.

There have been three times he faced any serious heat:

1. End of 2016. Then he won the first 2 games of 2017 and Koch declared he wanted to make him a “10 year coach”.

2. End of 2017. Upset at home in the EF by the 8th-placed Eagles. Managed to leverage purported interest from Gold Coast into a megadeal from Port by the end of the week.

3. End of 2019. Blew a finals berth as a hapless North Melbourne blew the doors off by 15 goals, with Ben Brown kicking 10 while Dougal Howard and Scott Lycett played in the seconds. In what wasn’t a coincidence, everyone on media street from Whateley to Kornes to Rucci to Dwayne tells us to pull our heads in and suck eggs. Ken’s the man.

Plodding along forever.

is the guy up the street named David?

I personally wouldn't want anyone from the current coaching panel being our next senior coach.

I hope our next senior coach hasn't ever even met Ken Hinkley, let alone coached under him.

Given this is now a foregone conclusion, we can probably safely start to consider our options on this front. I see people ask the question alot "Well if not Hinkley, then who?", these are the likely options:

- Scott Burns @ Adelaide - Senior Assistant + Defence
- Nathan Van Berlo @ Adelaide - Midfield
- Mark Stone @ Brisbane - Strategy
- Robert Harvey @ Collingwood - Interum Head Coach
- Hayden Skipworth @ Collingwood - Backline
- Blake Caracella @ Essendon - Midfield
- Daniel Giansiracusa @ Essendon - Assistant
- James Kelly @ Essendon - Backline
- Josh Carr @ Fremantle - Midfield
- Joel Corey @ Fremantle - Forwards
- Matthew Boyd @ Fremantle - Defence
- Matthew Scarlett @ Geelong - Defence
- Corey Enright @ Geelong - Forwards
- Josh Francou @ Gold Coast - Midfield/Stoppages
- Steve Johnson @ GWS - Forwards
- Amon Buchanan @ GWS - Stoppages
- Craig McRae @ Hawthorn - Forwards
- Chris Newman @ Hawthorn - Backs
- Alistair Clarkson @ Hawthorn - Head Coach
- Adem Yze @ Melbourne - Midfield
- Troy Chaplin @ Melbourne - Defence (lol)
- Mark Williams @ Melbourne - Head of Development
- Michael Voss @ Port Adelaide - Senior Assistant
- Brett Montgomery @ Port Adelaide - Defence
- Jarrad Schofield @ Port Adelaide - Midfield
- Nathan Bassett @ Port Adelaide - Forwards
- Adam Kingsley @ Richmond - Defence
- Andrew McQualter @ Richmond - Forwards
- Brendon Lade @ St Kilda - Forwards
- Aaron Hamill @ St Kilda - Defence
- Tadhg Kennelly @ Sydney - Midfield
- Jarrad McVeigh @ Sydney - Midfield
- Don Pyke @ Sydney - Senior Assistant
- Dean Cox @ Sydney - Strategy and Performance
- Adrian Hickmott @ West Coast - contested ball
- Jaymie Graham @ West Coast - Forwards
- Matt Rosa @ West Coast - Stoppages and Structure
- Steven King @ Western Bulldogs - Senior Assistant

Time for genuine discussion in this area. Happy to edit this post and add some outside/inspired choices that I missed.

No one on the assistant list gets me excited, but still better than Ken.

Was never a fan of Sydney dross football but that seems to have changed, Longmire seems to get the best out of his players.

Hardwick
Clarkson
Longmire
Buckley

^^^
Contracts mean s**t and both club and coach may want a change, pick up the phone and ask the question...fukk it.

If we don't pick someone internally I would talk to Adam Kingsley, although it does rhyme with Hinkley. Clarkson won't come here imo.

Others I don't mind are:

Buckley.
Scott Burns
Blake Caracella
Josh Carr

Clarkson can gargle my sweaty nutsack. I don't want him back at the club ever.

Buckley, I'd consider.

My hunch is that we have the right person with us already.
Clarkson pillaged our club for over a decade.
* him!

But also he’s a winner.

I'm still the type that prefers the coach to have been part of previous top level premierships when it comes to a Port coach. I can't sway from that preference.

Addition: I don't assume that because Clarkson has won 4 flags elsewhere that he'll bring success here. However as Chi has said, Clarkson is a winner, and he believes in his way, sets a culture that's strong and spills onto the field.

Troy Chaplin, 5 time Port Adelaide premiership coach. You know it makes sense.
