It was a frustrating watch at times, even though we were in it to the end. Yet there is plenty to look forward in the coming years. My highlights for the game, was our second quarter, Hugo's goal & Lalor's mark & goal. If we can play more footy like the way we played the 2nd quarter, we will have a lot to look forward too over the next few years. Lalor is something special, the best player in yellow & black since Dusty imo. Can only imagine how good he will be after a few more pre-seasons. Also like the look of Sims, he shows something in the couple of games he has played. Faull probably needs a few games back in the VFL as well as Trainor, just to get them to catch a bit of form & bring them back after the bye to finish off the season playing seniors. Kane has had a couple of good games & needs to stay in the midfield & probably get more minutes, also love what Seth is doing at the moment & agree that Banks need to be left in the team where he is playing & make Short earn his spot back.

You could be forgiven for that; Hardwick’s first seven years were a massive disappointment given the talent he had on the list for so much of that time
Hardwick took over a team that had made finals twice in the preceding 27-years. It was during GWS and GC taking lions share of quality picks. And in just his 4th season we go 15-7, and go onto make finals 3-years in a row.

I think you’re just assuming those on the list prior to 2016 were ‘quality’ based on what they achieved AFTER 2016. Forgetting many of them were injury prone, inconsistent or just young and not all that good… I’m talking about: Astbury, Edwards, Grimes, Broad, Vlastuin, Houli, Grigg, Lambert, Macca, Rioli. Then end of 2016 we got Nank, Prestia and Caddy. As well as bringing in via the draft Balta, Bolton and free agent Lynch.

Have a look at some of our players in those losing finals … it’s a miracle we got there :

2013 included : Conca, Morris, King, Aaron Edwards, Vickery and Petterd.

2014: Batchelor, Petterd, Griffiths, Conca and Gordon .. haha … Gordon!

2015: Griffiths, Vickery, Batchelor, Conca, Taylor Hunt and a young McIntosh.

There were some other average players as well like Tuck, Miles, Grigg, Chaplin and more.

So let’s not get caught up in any false memories of what those teams were. As if we were going places with half a dozen absolute spuds playing each final.

I’d be worried as a North fan. Very worried. They were full strength outside Curtis. Their top picks are all multiple years into their careers. And they were lucky to beat a team in the first 10-games of their rebuild with a heap of elite draftees not even playing.

Big worries on Duursma (sub?). FOS shows glimpses but a #2? I’d be worried when I watch Langford play. They kicked 6.0 to start the game and just limped over the line. We are in a much much better position than them given their rebuild is 5-6 years down.

ehhh i dont know i think they have a solid list for sure they just need to fill the gaps with experianced role players.

If they had a Lynch, Vlas, Broad and TT to help the young players run out games i think they would be way higher up the ladder.

heck! i wanted hardwick sacked with the whole board in 2016.

But i dont think we should be expecting 8 years to become competetive again. The modern game we should expect to be in the top 8 by 2027-28

end i of 2022 i wanted us to pull the trigger on a rebuild but Harwick and co wanted to set us back a few years

He got the back handed compliment of the worst list ever to win a flag in 2017 .

Clarkson said that watching (or was it playing in?) yesterday's game was like going to the dentist but I loved it. No one giving an inch and heaps of pressure on the ball carrier at every moment. These games are tense but you get to see who really has the skills, composure and toughness.

Lalor is so freaking good.

Slightly nervous that things will get worse before they get better for us though as our senior players like nank, hopper, Taranto, vlastuin, balta, lynch really are driving the results. Will the improvement from the youngsters be equal or better to the loss of these great players in 2-3 years time? Genuine question

Yze doing great work, which is super exciting

What the **** has a rebuild got to do with Tom Lynch missing sitters week-in, week-out 🤷‍♂️
Without Tom Lynch, we don't win any games YTD currently. He's playing in a forward line with Sims a 2 gamer, Faul a 6 gamer, Campbell a 31 gamer, Mansell a 60 gamer and Lalor a 9 gamer. He competes against 2 blokes minimum 90% of the time. He's kicked 13 goals YTD in 10 games. He's taking all the big guy heat. You honestly have zero idea of what's going on out there in the game. This was yesterday's team comparisons. North should have drilled us going by the numbers.

Notice any goal saving intercept marks?
Standing under the high ball?
Glass half empty or what?
What the poster you are discussing with doesn't understand without is Vlaus or Lynch, we lost by 30-40 points today.

You’re missing the point. Week-in, week-out, this board is full of platitudes about how any loss, and there have been plenty of those, is full of merit because we’re inexperienced but time and again it’s our experienced players who are disappointing. We’re in this kind of no-man’s land - simultaneously a million miles away from a flag, yet without any real depth in our young talent and nothing resembling a game plan.

I’ll tell you what’s embarrassing, it’s all the dumb ****s on here who can’t work out why we were unable to score more than 74 points against one of the worst teams in the competition
From what I can see, there's only one dumb campaigner posting here. The rest get where we're at.

No 💩! Been saying it for a while. The problem with this board are the Pollyanna’s who think our next flag is around the corner despite there not being a shred of evidence that we have anything like the depth of talent to make it a reality.
You wanna call out the names of the people saying they think a flag is just around the corner? Another fantasy post.

Wary of Essendon next week, too. We all had a good laugh about how they got pantsed by the Dogs last night but the way the Dogs played, they could probably have kicked just as many against us, maybe more.
Called it last night, we'll win. I look forward to discussing it with you on Friday night. Balta out brings us back a bit, but we have npc reason to fear the bombers currently.

Lalor is already better than any of their overpaid kids inc LDU, Sheezel, Simpkin and McKercher. The only one of their kids I’d touch is Wardlaw.

Lynch is cooked. Can’t jump and was well beaten by close to the worst player in the AFL.

Sonsie might be a good mid in 2030 or he might not. I can guarantee Hopper and TT won't be. Several times today opponents either shrugged off TT tackles or easily accelerated away from him. He needs to be moved to half-forward it's such an obvious move.

We can't keep saying "it's okay to lose because we're playing kids like Lalor and Campbell' when Lalor and Campbell are the reasons we're in the game at all given how badly our midfield is performing.
I've spoken a bit on various forums on having Taranto and Hopper rotate through half forward (at times with each other) and to do that we need guys who can not only get clearance but work back defensively as well (which Taranto's heat map demonstrated he did yesterday). McAuliffe's game yesterday was encouraging. Is Sonsie that player? I'm guessing we are hoping it'll be Smilie. I'd like to see Sonsie get a game playing mid but obviously the coaching staff are not seeing something they want to see (yet). I'd rather see Sonsie than Dow who is 6 years in...
