Would you be crazy to look at the Chad? Has / is scorin well in the first couple of rounds - looks like the Cornes of of old, getting lots of space in the backline and is definitely a go-to player for the Giants

Not the worst idea, will he be rested more often though than the kids?

People's thoughts on Brought to Alex Johnson of the swans?

I think I'll keep him actually. Depending on what Mohr scores today he may be a good option but otherwise I'm not too confident in the options around his price except for Hanley and maybe Adcock but he is a similarly frustrating player. I'd love Birchall but he is out of my price range...

In response to the above Alex Johnson could be a solid option but I don't think he will average quite enough to be a keeper.

downgrading Coniglio for Green so i can swap Broughton for Birchall, easy fixed. Works well for the bye strategy also so its a win win

depending on how Birchall plays tomorrow, might go Suckling instead but both should average around 90

May I please ask you why? Would love some reasons to save me a trade!

Well there's one reason, save the trade (I'm using mine to pick up prem rookies). Also its still early days, he could be one of those players you regret dropping.

Well I'll be trading Broughton in in round 6 so... you guys all go drop him and save yourself losing a theoretical 80-100k, I'll be content when I pick up one of the year end top 7 defenders for a nice price.

I've got the same problem with Duffield now.

I'm not taking the price hit and punting he'll rise back up. It's just too risky.

I think I'll just downgrade him to Bugg or downgrade somewhere else and upgrade him to Goddard.

Only problem with Goddard is he isn't likely to score like that every week. Averaged a bit under 100 last year which is a real big worry for me.

We can drop him now for a cash cow and still pick him up later if its worth it. I'll be picking up the best player I can afford around that time anyway, if it happens to be him great. But until then I can get some cash cows and upgrade to a super premium anyway.

This.
Backmen are simply not consistent. If you trade out a player that scores rubbish the first 2 games for a player that scores well the first two, it's like chasing your losses at the casino. There is a chance it'll pay off, but there is also a big chance that player will spud it up while the likes of broughton/shaw dominate and you'll double your loss and have wasted trades. Spesh with backmen, it's all about the total at the end, not the week-to-week scores.

I'm sticking with him.

If I was confident he'd be a year end top 7 (or even top 10) defender, I would never even consider trading him out. It's silly to waste a trade on what is presumably a keeper, if they are not injured.

I've watched both Dockers games though and the signs aren't there for a good DT scorer. Playing fairly outside, playing stints on the wing, and the scores are still below par. I'm not sure if he has much of an upside left in him.

Then why did you pick him in the first place? This is exactly how he has always played and will always play.

Because the signs were there that he would get more midfield time this year. He also scored very well last season when he was in midfield. I accepted the occasional lock-down role (eg with Stevie J in Round 1) - in fact I advocated for people to keep Broughton on the field after his disappointing Round 1 because he scored well against Sydney at the SCG last year and that he often got the close checking role on Stevie J anyway.

Just not sure though that he'll be able to rack them up this year. The Dockers had other 'go-to' players linking up from defence like Johnson on Saturday.

I'm leaning towards retaining him, if only because there are other holes in my team I need to fix before the price changes. I think though that people trading him out do have valid reasons for doing so.

My thinking is that I will get a cash cow now, and used to saved cash to get a more premium player. Once the cash cows plump up a bit, I'll be looking to find the best player I can afford. Not a straight sideways swap, But hoping to cash up so I can use less trades in the upgrade process.

yeah ive changed my mind, but only because i want to sideways trade the best 2 cash cows into my side for underperforming cash cows. Still very much regretting at this point not taking Birchall over Broughton, but thats the brakes. I reckon choosing the best backline players each year is the hardest part of dream team, and every year i **** it up :(

I think we have to remember that Birchall only averaged 89 last year, just 4 more points than Broughton. When Broughton plays in the midfield in the pre season, and is talked up by his new coach, the selection of Mr B is not a bad one.

It's not like we have over looked someone that has consistently averaged 100+ for years.

So hes scored 126 so far at a 63 avg. He was priced at 84. 84 x 3 = 232

So if he scores 106 he really doesnt lose much if any price. Even if its 90 it will only be a 5-10k drop.

I think i will keep him. Depends what else is available to trade, one thing i know is ill be using two trades this week. If hes my 2nd worst player than he gets the axe.

Hes predominantly been playing on a wing. Even if he does play a halfback role he has in the past still scored very well playing this role.

I picked Broughton thinking that there will be a midfield hole for him to fill with Barlow, Morrabito and Mundy all coming back (slowly) from injury. Stuffed that one up obviously.
