Fagan's just getting nervous about Josh Schache heading home. Try creating a culture and environment that kids want to stay with instead of lamenting the fact that they don't want to say. Their facilities are a joke. And another thing, is anyone stopping them from offering their draftees immediate extensions like other clubs do...??
Disagree. Fagan is bang on, though I think it should it should be a three year contract. We could and probably will lose Balic this year, guaranteed we'll get unders. It's bs and the AFL refuses to do anything about it. Shache will probably leave and Brisbane just wasted 2 years for 0 return and it pushes there rebuild back.

I really wonder if we will lose Balic this year. Especially when you take in the fact that Fremantle spend a lot of time & money in getting his wrist right and were quite happy to keep him on contract for a full year without virtually any return.

Fagan has a valid point - you get no return on players in the first two years. Typically players in their first two years become average output players for some of their second year. They are mostly potential for what they could become so non-Vic clubs in particular lose out badly after two years if they leave because they have no leverage and had got no real benefit. Look at us if we lost Balic this year for example.

Said something similar before but maybe if they want to go home at the end of two years they do not get to choose the club at all as long the club offering the best deal is in their home state. After say their first contract extension to the initial club that drafted them then they get to nominate.
The AFLPA are pushing for greater player mobility through free agency. One of the unintended side effects has been an increasing tendency for players wanting to move before they qualify for FA and nominating their preferred club in the process

The players can do this because they have the safety net of not having to go anywhere they don't agree to

One of the solutions to players looking to leave, particularly early in their career like Schache, is to enable clubs to trade players to the club that offers the better trade provided the contract value is equivalent to the players preferred destination

Geelong currently on 50 tackles in a quarter and a half. 10 more then what they had the entire Essendon game.

Definitely a different team out there.

I was wondering when they were going to start pinging that ruck-throw. Seen it a few times in recent weeks, but often a bit better disguised than that one.

Cloke momentum killer. At least collingwood not playing Mayne.

Don't know about the new Simonds Stadium.

Seems to have a real scoring end: 22.16 to 6.1 tonight. Might have a bit of a slope.

This is the 'streaks' round.

A number of games this round feature teams with long winning / losing streaks v their round rivals.

Geelong are now 11-0 v Western Bulldogs (15-1 over the past decade).
North are 15-0 v Melbourne over the past decade (longest active streak in AFL).
Hawthorn are 9-0 v Collingwood (all since Buckley took over).
Sydney are 6-0 v St Kilda.
Adelaide are 5-0 v Brisbane.

All the 'winning' teams are underdogs this week bar Adelaide.

Those sort of stats still don't help my tipping.
