Would still be pleasantly surprised if this happens. AFL has been very cautious, at times, with this stuff. Thinking of the Freo, Collingwood and some of the AFLW games this year.
The Broncos played on Saturday night in Brisbane in front of a full crowd, the Wallabies Vs France here on Wednesday night and that will again be a full crowd. Big chance the AFL is played up here as well given Rugby Union and Rugby League are this week.

Issue isn't crowds in brisbane, it is St Kilda (and us) being able to get into Victoria afterwards. I am still optimistic that will be possible.

The whole thing shouldn’t really be this complicated, keep the players/staff in a secure bubble, keep crowds at a distance, play the game and fly out. It’s not Brisbane is drowning in cases, all the state governments are really got their heads in the sand right now with these knee jerk closures and lockdowns.

Low key hoping we stay in Melbourne for this one, making the MCG our home away from home for 3 weeks would be perfect for finals preparation. The more opportunities we have to win games there and perform well on the grand stage the better imo.
Think our focus should be getting there first. Playing at home gives us our best chance to qualify for the Big Dance.

No chance of this being in Brisbane the Lions are already in Melbourne the AFL will keep Us here for the next 3 weeks very much like we were earlier in the season would expect the game at the MCG as a double game very much like Fremantle did this weekend
I'll take that bet. As it stands today, the team & everyone associated with it are flying home tomorrow. In fact, it could be later today should flights become available.

Heard Andrews was going for scans today. Wonder if we’ll hear an update about his knee.
At least it shouldn't be too serious if anything at all, no way he would have been able to play on if it's a long term injury, he didn't look hampered at all in the 2nd half.

You are usually in the know on Lions issues.
So this information means the Victorian CHO has agreed to this but more important is the Lions can return to Victoria. With some provisions i assume
Hopefully the Team and support staff are allowed to stay in Brisbane for a few days under restrictions
That will help with the AFL's promise of not being away for more than 3 weeks in hubs

As far as Queensland CHO she already has/will allow this to happen.
Even as late as yesterday Dr Young stated she is not worried about open air stadium crowds as long as covid safe plan implemented
She stated to date no covid cases recorded at stadiums

So next is what time to play the game
That will be up to AFL pending flights for the Saints and other scenarios

Hopefully just to confirm club doctor's diagnosis
Playing on is not always a sign that all is okay but certainly better than the medical sub being used
Just want the club to confirm all okay or see Harris run onto the Gabba next week.
I am still a worry wort in regard to players injuries especially AA players

Has there been any transmission any where in the world at an out door sporting event?

There should be enough data to make a scientific decision.
From what I have read outdoor transmission is pretty rare particularly in a climate like we have in Australia/Queensland.... those bloody dental surgeries are another matter though;), and we must remember to stay away from those dirty Bombers uncles as well.

Just sayin how it sits as of now. Not what it will be later today or tomorrow.

I would rather play at an empty Gabba than in Melbourne. We need to secure a top 4 position, and we're a 5 goal better side in Queensland. Also, there's no way we would play At Kilda at the MCG, so there's no reason to play the game their at all.

Brisbane originally believed it would fly home as soon as players and staff received a negative test on Sunday. This was then delayed until Tuesday and there are still no firm answers whether their game against the Saints will proceed as planned at the Gabba.

The Lions are waiting to hear whether they can fly home on Tuesday. Their Round 18 and 19 matches are both in Melbourne.

One option would be to play the match at Metricon Stadium if Brisbane is a red zone and Gold Coast is orange or green. The venue is vacant this weekend with the Suns heading to regional Victoria.

This is far worse than what any of the Victorian clubs had to endure in their 'hubs' last year. Would have to mess with our preparation and mental health.

This makes more sense considering Broncos played with no restrictions on crowd sizes on Sunday.
Gold Coast played in Melbourne over the weekend without issue though, so surely they work through this.

Another example of the AFL being overly cautious.

Both Gold Coast and us flew into Melbourne last week before brisbane was declared a red zone, so GC playing in Melbourne last week isn't relevant.

If they are fly in/out on the same day we might get the afternoon slot.
