Ranking 70 for kicks for defenders in the entire competition suggests otherwise. 6 x 18 = 108 players play defence every weekend. ranking 70th while not in the top 50 is still pretty good.

Why shouldn't Pedlar get the same opportunities as Murphy(116 games) Jones(92) Scholl(79)Schoenberg (61) ?

Utterly crucified by the inept useless coach when played against Geelong as a defensive forward (whatever that means !) and blamed by all those who are quick to judge !

He's been picked 30 times & never once been encouraged to play to his strengths.

He could kick multiple goals this week if given a full game but will still be judged by how well he defends.

Nick's rubbish comment today about getting his body right is just another case of blaming the player. Nicks never owns up to wanting every player to be a defender but that is the aim of this charlatan We are seeing it with Curtin, Peatling, Taylor Neal-Bullen & Cumming who are so "opponent conscious" that going hard at the ball is a secondary aim !

Neal-Bullen played many games in the midfield with Melbourne; with Adelaide he's played as Murphy's classier replacement & never tried as a midfielder.. another defensive forward we don't need !
I agree with Pedlar TBH

Pedlar's issues are definitely at least to a significant degree about getting his body right, as well as general effort/commitment etc. Clearly has talent and has been given significant time in the AFL side in the past, has been hampered by injury and consistency issues.

I have to admit this confused me (which is not difficult; oldness :shoutyoldman: :drunk: ) and has prompted a few replies.

Just to clarify: are you saying 70th-best in 108 "is still pretty good"?
(it means 2 out of 3 others are better)

Glad Pedlar is getting another look

Really has had 12+ months in the wilderness after looking quite promising before that.

Not sure what went wrong for him but hopefully is getting things back on track. Think he adds something different to our team.

Kind of love everything about the way he goes about it. Gut feel is he was mismanaged last season. But it’s interesting because if I’m being totally honest, I’d rather Sid get games ahead of him. So here’s a kid that I reckon could be a fun trusted prefer not in the current 23. That said, we do have a fed/mid spot being taken by a superfluous tall forward.

Maybe he just doesn't like Nicks.
Actually, could be.
Not everybody gets along in a large group.

(It would also explain some players' inconsistent or out-of-character performances eg
Dawson, tries his guts out to lift the team when Nicks' "Game Plan" is clearly not working.
I'm not sure that ANB, Peatling and Cumming are being played in their most effective positions, either).

Back to Pedlar; he showed plenty in 2023 which made me think he'd end up as a best-22 certainty.
Does anybody know what's happened to/with him?

Needed/needs to work harder on his fitness was/is issue.

The focus from the club is definitely on getting Tex to 300 as soon as possible.
I thought same until I looked at the revised conditions for Sunday.

The predicted windy conditions are coming but the heavy rain is expected later in the day after the game is over.
There'll be a strong NNW blowing slightly diagonally down the ground from the L of the Moreton Bay trees to the SSE pocket (peaking @ around 40kph when the game starts).

Dry-but-windy, ok, play Tex but rest him next week vs Sydney after only a 6-day break.

Thanks.
I thought that was one of the problems. He's ex-Kingston and ex-PAC Captain; did he barrack for the Crows when younger?

It's funny (peculiar). He must be happy doing what he's doing for whatever he's being paid.
Maybe he lacks ambition, you know, that drive that makes many other players want to get/play better.
He has access to one of the widely-recognised best fitness gurus, which would be an opportunity for him that he hasn't taken, or seems not to have.
Maybe he doesn't rate Nicks --- I can't blame him since I don't rate Nicks-as-Coach myself --- and is waiting for an opportunity elsewhere (or with a Better Adelaide Coach)?

Some of the footy-smarts things he did in 2023 made me think he'd be more-than-competitive at AFL level.

I doubt it. I wish we would rest him but if we haven't by now we probably won't.

Yeah, it's very poor player-management in general but, Nicks.
That 2-year extension has really made a mess.

This would have been a good game to show some flair and try/blood some different players.
Pedlar IN is good, but he's not like-for-like with Nankervis.
Why Draper is not playing is beyond me.

My take is Nicks is Coaching for his job, not for the Club or the players.
He needs the 4 points + as much % as they can wring out of the game (my hunch is he knows the next 3 weeks will not be pretty).
