Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987
DEBUT: 2005
DRAFT: #5, 2004 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Dowerin (WA)/Perth (WAFL)/Hawthorn

Be interesting to see how the 666 works out for him.

Lots of nervous defenders across the league right now and not just Buddies opponents.

Personally I hope this open the game right up and we see some real bags again.

Pre-2019 season reminder of where Bud sits among the all-time greatest goal kickers. The magic 1000 goals mark not that far away.

Glad to see the Ablett update already in place :p

Side note, Buddy will go past Lloyd this year, and there is a chance he will pass Titus as well.

Only works if the midfield can get it into Buffy fast.

Irrespective of the ruck issue I still have confidence that we will win our fair share of clean ball from the guts.

If we have done nothing over the past half dozen years we have perfected the "get the ball and hack it forward really really quickly in the vague direction of the posts" play.

Should serve us well now. At least they can't triple team Buddy without leaving guys like Reid and Menzel etc floating around from the centre bounces.

The guy just wants to play every game

Pretty remarkable

Just want him to play for ever

Not just every game, wants to win every contest. An amazing competitor and loves football. Imagine being so rich you could buy a boat and sail around Sydney harbour on your days off but he still goes to watch the kids in the practice matches and keeps up to date with the draft prospects and stuff around draft time.

Hope the media throw everything at him to just keep him involved in our sport after he retires. Would be sad if he became another Plugger, spotted once in a blue moon even though he clearly loves the game.

Stuff the media. Give him a coaching gig.

I feel like Buddy deserves better than the inevitable stress and pressure that comes from being a coach. He deserves to be in the commentary booth on a Friday night getting his arse kissed by Bruce & co every time he gives his expert opinion, a la Wayne Carey.

I’d love to keep him around the club personally.

Talent scout maybe. Seems to love the game so might be interested in coaching. I am sure he can handle the stress and pressure...

Often, when reading this forum, I have serious doubts about that.
I
I doubt anyone would go the trouble of posting here unless they were a rusted on fan. Further there are a couple of posters I often disagree with but I have no doubt they are as passionate about the Club as any here.

I wouldn’t expect many more seasons where Buddy will kick 80+ goals. 60-70 is probably his window these days and that’s fine. Add that to a more than handy 40 from Hayward and maybe 20+ from Reid and Blakey and we’re well covered.

It’s the midfield that will decide this, though.

Or the coach. It's been 8 years and yet to see a consistently functioning forward line at any point during those 8 years. I think even the best could struggle if the dynamics around you aren't working as they should be.

I am quite excited to what buddy could bring this year. He knows he is or at least should be on the downward curve of his career (even though he is still playing beautiful football) and he knows anything can happen at any stage. The 1000 goal milestone is at his finger tips and very well could be the last player in history to achieve it. I wouldnt be surprised if he plays with a brutally killer instinct this year to get as close as he can so next year its a formality and he can make history at the scg!

Just thinking about Buddy's contract and my first thought was s**t he still gets a pay rise the next two seasons. My second thought was who are we gonna spend the money on when he retires? The AFL should be worried about us in the next couple of years when we start looking for Bud's replacement.
