Murdoch's 8 disposal match against the Tigers, his lowest disposal count since round 12 2016 would suggest the right decision was made to drop him.

He is a confidence player and after a performance like his against the Tiger's, it's hard to see him flipping that 180 degrees against either the Swans or Crows
He injured himself that game. Why does everyone this?

James Parsons had nine games last year of less than 10 disposals. Including round 23 against the Giants where he had just one kick, and three disposals for the match.

Edit - just discovered that one of his possessions in that game was a clanger too. In the final against the Swans he had five disposals, four of which were clangers...

Yep and it was not a good decision to play him in the first final because he was poor again.
Also not a good decision to play him in the second final because he was poor in that one too. Finally he was dropped.
He would also not be a good decision to play rnd 1 either as his pre-season form has not been great.

So if he was injured against the Tigers, why should he have then been selected for the preliminary final and should he have even been fit?

No mention of him on the injury list on the match report (link).

INJURIES
Geelong:
C.Guthrie (calf), Kolodjashnij (calf)
Richmond: Nil
Nor listed as injured in the team changes:

IN: Daniel Menzel, Darcy Lang
OUT: Cam Guthrie (calf), Jordan Murdoch (omitted)

He way also listed as an emergency, so clearly not too seriously injured if there was actually an injury:

Emerg: Rhys Stanley, Jordan Murdoch, Jackson Thurlow

I wished we had kept Ruggles instead of GHS.

GHS was contracted for 2018 already so not realistically an option. It was basically re-rookie Ruggles vs rookie Crameri (we had already committed to take Hayball).

he spent a large amount of time in the second half on the bench getting treatment from the medicos. it wasnt game ending but he was certainly hobbling for most of the second half.

Maybe it was his heart muscle and they were hoping to find he still had some ticker

Why not? Half the list did exactly that the next week.

They bulk up at too early age. Some can take it others can't
That's one reason skinny starters like Mackie, Nankervis, Fletcher et al have long injury (soft tissue especially) free careers.
Yeah some players do bulk up too quickly which can sometimes create muscle imbalances leading to soft tissue injuries. On the flip side if they don't bulk up some of them won't be able to match it against their more mature opponents and therefore risk losing their spot on an AFL list. It's different for every individual and again, it's about finding the right balance.

Really?

Murdoch has shortcomings I agree but I don't think this is one of them.

He certainly deserves criticism for his finals performances. Which for the most part have not been good.

However, there is no way he should be singled out for this. Because there are plenty of others. So if Murdoch is going to be slagged off for not turning up in finals (and that's not necessarily inaccurate either), to infer he's alone in that is ridiculous.

normally like your stuff but cant agree here.

Murda does many things - frustrating things - fumbles, tries too much, over possession, poor decision making... but Im not sure backing out of a contest or not having heart fits his billing. IMO he's split many a contest and put his head over it or gone when its his turn....

Having a crack IMO not his weak point.

Go Catters

I think Murdoch can play a role in the team that clearly has other players with much more talent. But if he’s the difference between us winning or not we’re in trouble. Lots of similar players had good roles for Richmond last season
