Should be this for sure. Paine is really grinding my gears. How the f can they not pick Carey.
yes, cause one day form always translates to the Test arena. Jason Roy has been unstoppable this series for example.

A lot of you have never rated Tim Paine ever since he got selected. The fact it has taken 2 and a half yeas before you put the knifes in showcases how consistent he has been before this series.

Yea there's something there with him. With Head and Wade that could be an ok mid order. Not great but ok.

I'm not sold on Wade as a specialist batsman. Not sure his batting has improved that much to be considered that.
He either keeps and bats or find a replacement when there is one

How come?
A spinner i dont mind so much but still not preferable, i feel it influences their decision when to bowl themselves or sometimes to the detriment of the team when to not bowl. Id rather its taken out of their hands and given to a batsman. Just personal preference.

Fatigue for a start .. would be very difficult to combine captaincy with recovery needs

True but WK is extremely fatiguing too.
I think Cummins would be a good option, or even Lyon (minimal batting, generally not bowling day 1-2 then generally tying down an end).

For all the flak the selectors cop, surely they deserve a bit of praise for their faith in Labuschagne. He's been remarkable since he entered this series - perhaps THE success story of the tour.
100% - he just looks so solid with his technique and his confidence is growing by the innings. Bar Smith, he has certainly out performed our more experienced and fancied batsman to date. He wasn't even starting XI for the first two tests!

If we had lost this, he could have been the one to make way for Smith, with Khawaja moving up. Winning definitely changes things. More inclined to give him another Test and drop Khawaja or Wade.

Yeah I think Wade / Marsh / Labs were challenging for the 6th spot so would think Wade out, but his 100 might save him.

Even when we’re on the verge of retaining the Ashes the nuffies still want to swing the axe - including the captain.

NFI
We could win the series 4-0 (yes please!!!!!) , and you'd still read, "Yeah but if we were on our game at Lords, we could have made it 5-0."

I think with us finally having a pretty good bowling group, there’s a good chance that they will be rotated through during long tours or home series.
There’s no guarantee that the bowlers will be there for every test, in particular I think Patty will need a rest later in this series, once it’s sewn up. He’s the only bowler that’s played virtually every game in England.
Lyons the only one guaranteed to play every game, but I’m not sure he is captain material.

People who want to axe the captain potentially 2-0 up and retaining the Ashes have probably never played in a team environment before or lifted a cricket bat. What a deflating and destabilising move. I cant believe Ive even read it this morning but then I remember what website I'm on.

I have more chance of walking on the moon today than that happening.

Carey's recent form in first-class has been promising, very good in his county debut 56 and 69* against Roland-Jones, Murtagh and Finn. Just hasn't played enough games though.

If he backs up his form in the shield I would think he would be a chance to debut by the end of the year.
