We still haven't had a midfielder go and grab 30 touches this year, Roberts the only player in general and he did it ineffectively today anyway.

Heeney 28
Chad 26
Heeney and Chad 24

Those are our leading counts for midfielders this year

How in the world are we suppose to compete if we don't have a reliable player to just get the footy 30 times a week

Our lack of run n carry in transitioning the ball & a lack of fwd movement is concerning. The ease of opposition moving the ball out of our fwd 50 for big periods of the game is an issue.

Some good signs but a few issues. Work in progress. One of our worst goal kicking performances too.

Let a man dream. What’s WCE offering?

You’d assume it’s one of their top picks this year (probably the compensation one that will go to them for Oscar Allen) plus a f1. You’d assume that’s a ballpark sort of thing, maybe we send a future third with Chad to even it out but whatever.

I’m surprised people have McLean in their POTY votes.

His job is to catch the ball and kick it between the 2 big sticks.

Today he dropped a number of puds AND missed 4 set shots, none of them from difficult positions.

He could (should) have been the match winner.

Agree I mean hate to say it but woukd Amartey have missed even half of those this is my issue with McLean he’ll likely kick the impossible yet miss a sitter next one, and bit jeez how many marks did he miss including an uncontested one in the last two mins in the square!

I love the scg as a venue but I hate the people who manage it. The turf today was an absolute ****ing joke. Also... How many games were ruined over the years by those morons watering it just before game time.
The ground was an absolute disgrace today. Good part of a month since we played there (and I suspect since any events there) and it looks like they've just held the Royal Easter Show parade on it. Not good enough, and the club should be letting them know about it.

They had a large part of the turf die .

So parasite or something.

Super unusual for the SCG.
Usually one of the best outfield in the world

Fair re this and that comment but you can't then act like last year happened purely from luck, the side played some great footy (obviously not on the last day) but it wasn't just lucky breaks . the talent is still there , talent also means shit if you don't work.
We are 10-10 from the last 20.

Makes us exactly bog average.

Its long gone mate unlikely to be produced again

Look this season shite so far but few out and plenty of time talent doesn't just disappear.

We aren't this shit, maybe we aren't as good as first either , we can get back

It was the peak of the list injury free and everything clicked our median form was something towards the latter stages of the season with Heeney/Warner utterly carrying wins against Collingwood and GWS.

Well **** it call it stupidity, I believe this list can get a flag in the next 3 seasons

Last year, even during our hot streak, we would struggle at the start but then end up runNing over teams - they couldn’t keep the pressure up all game.

Since halfway through last year, teams learnt how to hold us up with less effort, and our game plan has been found wanting. They block the corridor and our contested marking is not strong enough when we are forced to go long.

We could try running and gunning earlier, but that could lead to even more turnover goals against us.

Another idea is to revert to the Roos game plan; if we can’t slice our way through, bomb it up the line near the boundary line and punch it over for another stoppage, then reset. It plays to our ruck strength; it also might help us wear down the opposition.

Blakey should've been the match winner too, and pretty much everyone else who missed several gettable goals.

At least we found the question to which the answer is Francis. Which former Essendon top 6 draft pick can come in as Swans' late sub and kick more goals than any other Swan can kick over the entire game?

Roos had teams that could tackle

Do we win enough contested ball for that style to work?? we dont have Kennedy/Parker/Hanners/Mitchell anymore lol.

I mean look at the forward line today...

A Ruck/a defender that the coach for some reason has decided to experiment as a forward.
A bloke who couldnt get a game for a team that hasnt won a final in 972827354 days(actually to his credit did bloody well)

Why are we surprised? we cant kick a score we desperately need Amartey/Logan/Papley back but the Papley that chases and applies pressure.

Number of touches is not everything. Winning contested touches counts more as they rob the other team of a possession. Kicks are generally more valuable than handballs, particularly if the disposals are efficient and we keep control.

Fair point. We seem to always be that few Errols, Papley and Millsy short in winning the winnable games this season.

Since Butters has come back for the Power, they've been more solid in the midfield allowing Rozee to slip back.

See how we get to the mid-season bye.
