Autopsy 8 point loss to Port

Regardless of the result today, I thought the umpires were poor. They missed marks, throws, centre bounces that favoured one team when should have been called back and poor interpretation of the blocking rule in marks at times.

They make mistakes and the players made more than them.

Probably expect a higher standard than that from all on the ground.

Swans were poor and Port not much better at times.

Been saying this for the last few years now. Francis is proof that players can get their confidence back in the reserves & contribute in the seniors when recalled. We have neglected list integrity which gives players hope.

I want more hard nosed play. We play like a team who sleeps with light on at times today we watched the ball on the ground waiting for someone else to get it. The in and under w clean hands and the impetus to get the ball first just looks second rate to me. Unless it’s it’s out in open we are worried about contact and rushing bs handballs or kicked. It’s like we have a team bought up in the era of soft parenting….

How many times we fumbled multiple times only to see port pick it up first time and go… Watch the effing ball until it’s in your hands ….and take a tackle….youdont need to get rid of it every damn time and turn it over.

The bs clearing kicks before Rioli goal kind of summed up how we threw this game away.

Some of the behinds today were just dumb rushed kicks when time was there to give off.

We probably need to find a way to get to 5-5 which means now you have to take at least one of the GC and GWS games (plus beat Blues and Bombers...no gimmes, but we're in big trouble if we're not doing these 2 sides regardless).
Cox honestly needs to make a call on a couple (not forever but for the short term at least)....and it's some of the leaders. Probably not the easiest call to make 6 games into your coaching career....but gotta drop one or two and set some standards going forward, accountability for the same reoccurring problems not been a strong point lately.

Injuries haven't helped but gotta settle down either end of the ground. McCartin going back then forward, then back then forward again isn't helping either end of the ground find synergy. He's persisted with this move far too long now, it's been obvious to all it's not a winner since round 0. There's a reason Horse moved McCartin back to begin with.
Either (or do 2 of) rush Logan back, play Francis forward (until Amartey/Logan come back) or give Buller a game (because he can't be worse and we'll lose nothing from what we're getting if he's also terrible)......no more robbing Peter to pay Paul playing Key defenders forward, no more 3 rucks. Despite McLeans misses the ruck combo worked fine, and when Francis came on there was something that almost looked like a forward structure.

I sympathise with this argument, but equally there just aren't enough guys putting pressure on key players. Sheldrick and Paton were found wanting at AFL level (though granted I think Sheldrick may have been misused), while McDonald still isn't 100% ready. Ladhams doesn't really have a role to play. The rest aren't good enough yet.
