Mclean's game today was better than all the games Charlie has played for us other than the one against WB. In particular, his ability to come forward to the ball, mark and convert was impressive. Charlie has been sitting out the back and he has been inaccurate.

McLean increased his trade value.

I haven’t been the biggest fan of Clarkson in the past, but he was gracious in the press conference if you watch the video.

He was twice baited to whinge about the umpires and refused to do so. He was saying that Kangaroos shouldn’t complain about the umpires because they ruined enough opportunities on their own. I think this is fair.

Pies have the 6th worst attack. You would hope they are stronger in defence otherwise it would be a worry.

Geez we weren’t great. Fumbly and our intensity was well off. Some very poor performances from Rowbottom, Cootee, Roberts to say the least. In saying that, to still win that’s all that counts.

Centre square work still a lot to be desired even though we won it by 1.

Positives. Mills was superb down back, Blakey superb. McLean did his job although I shudder having the trio of Amartey, McDonald and McLean in the forward line. Curnow straightens us up and we need him back ASAP.

Anyways Blakey said it best to Sarah Jones “we’re in a good spot but it’s no point being good now, we need to be good at the end of the year.”

Time to move onto the next one.

He played half the game - less than anyone else , bet he wasn't fully fit . Second half he played about 5 mins each quarter

I hadn’t noticed that - you’re spot on.

He’s normally an 85% kinda guy. But yes, he hardly appeared in the 2nd half.

Get what you’re saying, but I just can’t bring myself to question his desire.

Like (dare I say it) George Hewett, he has limitations - a burst of speed being one. So in the open, free flowing game the AFL is determined to create, the Rowy type finds it tougher, because there’s less close-in contested ball to be won & he’s not bursting into space when we have the ball.

I might be wrong - but my view is that he’s not getting the pill because he’s not quite dynamic enough for the current game. Particularly the open, lower intensity shoot-outs that we’ve seen the past 2 weeks.

However …. in a high pressure, high intensity game, I still believe Rowy will show his worth.
