We are all conscious of Thommos lack of running and spread, two way running and frees being given away.

But we all remember Thommo struggling as part of our running game. But that has been shut down and clubs are playing a congested and slow gameplan to break us open. Our forwards push up meaning we have no structure moving forward and they congest us within our forward half and sling shot back.

It maybe that the tactic being employed to beat us maybe the ideal game style for Thommo. You guys want congestion, we bring this hard nut. He hardly bloody runs but will be the first getting his hands on the pill

Thommo has been a great servant of the club, but he ain't the answer....Greenwood should have come in last week so good bye Hampton, its whether we drop Mackay for a Galluchi or Poholke or Wigg, because any of those three would be an improvement on the blonde inanimate rod. Beech should come in for Menzel. Lever is an in for either JJ or Otto.

Important that the changes are planned and long term. Don't want chopping and changing without a clear direction. To Pyke's credit, that's not his style.

Tony Hall spoke once about Robert Shaw, saying he started the seasons well but after a couple of losses starting doubting himself, changing things, got reactive, desperately trying to find the magic formula.

It's a fine line. With last season and this season, Pyke now has enough information to say that our preferred 22 isn't quite good enough and must change. Correctly identify and remove the weak links and back in their replacements* with a long string of games.

*goes without saying that any replacements must be upside players who can improve our 22 in time. Eg not Thompson

When everyone is considering who to bring into the team the comments usually focus on skill, kicking, speed etc etc. All good stuff. Many will mention desire, aggression again all good stuff.

In our desire to address the issue of speed we have added players that have the speed but now we have too many players that are too light in their bodies. Its fine to have some fleet footed light weighted players but not too many.

During the game against Melbourne I got a bit pissed off at some of their players for the way they were man handling our guys and that the umps ignored it. But after the game I was thinking that we need the type of aggression that players like Viney, Vince, Jones and Hunt bring. Then there was Petracca and Oliver. All were very aggressive but without crossing the line.

Our fast but light weighted players don't seem to be that aggressive perhaps because their size doesn't give them the confidence. Yes CC can be aggressive and so can Tex....well we expect that of Tex given he is our leader but there are not too many others.

When picking the team this week I hope that a little more thought is given to addressing these two areas of our short comings.

Why are your excluding the least performed inside mid in Hampton?

He can go to the outside in Mackay's role with Greenwood replacing him inside. I'd give Hampton 3-4 weeks in that role to see whether he has a future in a team wanting to genuinely contend over the next 4 years. If h

The media wants the crows to fail is the real reason why Thommo's name is brought up continually. Or it's a fascination with older players avoiding father time I guess. It's a sad indictment on the club's list management that he is even on the list, let alone considered. Let's be honest, he would have been cut from 80% of clubs 2 to 3 years ago.

Definitely needs a role to change to stay in the side
