It reads like something pulled totally from the authors arse from the outside - there is not one attribution in the whole article

typical speculative/opinion piece,

Personally i dont think it was really that brutal, anyone would be disappointed who didnt land martin or kelly so that bit was a no brainer, and the whole rest of it regarding brad and cam is just speculative. then there is a bit of embelishment thrown in speculating some internal division which really all organisations have but are just not keen on the wider public being privy to. i think you need to be a little insecure to take offence of a piece like that.

barrets snide one liners are actually a lot worse IMO.

We are not the only club to have missed out on snaring a player.

Treasonous is the right word. It's why it is much worse from him.

You wouldn't mind the odd article calling out the club's decisions etc after winning 8/35ish if he did some positive pieces from time to time, but it's the writings of a bloke that has completely thrown the toys out of the cot. Its one cheap arse pot shot after another.

He only signed for 2 years
He will be 24
2 years takes him right up to the cusp of free agency

Join the dots mate. He won't be getting named as GWS captain.

They made him stand in captain for a game earlier this year.

Off topic, His contract finishing up the same time as Brads could be an issue. If Brads under pressure and a potential coach change is on the cards it could be a hard sell.

Brad will have either perished, or managed to get another contract, by the time Josh's trade comes up for discussion.

The bit about North wanting to be a small, inner-suburban community club rather than an successful club in an elite competition is probably one of the stupidest things ever written in an industry balls deep in stupidly written things by stupid people. A lot of the article has a whiff of some truth behind its premise, but ridiculous comments like that flush it down the turd hole as it exposes it as a troll. And not a very clever one at that.
Exactly..... Like the two are mutually exclusive....when in fact community engagement is actually one of the best ways to build our membership and ensure success down the track.....Stuff like the AFLW license, our NG Academies and the Arden St redevelopment are actually examples of us thinking big not small

Given that the big clubs have such a built-in advantage, it's probably the only way to grow membership until we can get sustained success.

Spot on. The AFL only cares about its 'brand'. They want full stadiums and high attendance figures and a truly national competition. For this reason the interstate sides, particularly those in non traditional AFL states and the well supported Melbourne clubs will always get preferential treatment. They get the blockbuster fixtures which ensure their ongoing success. Melbourne clubs with small memberships will always get shat on. They get the Sunday twilights and the shitty stadium deals. We can moan about it all we like but it won't make any difference. The only way around it is to grow our membership and improve our attendances. Which is what the club is trying to do with its strong focus on community engagement, particularly in areas of strong population growth with lots of migrants. Migrants have long been attached to our game and they have no pre-existing allegiances. Fertile grounds for recruiting new members. I really believe that we have stolen a march on other small Melbourne clubs in this regard. The Huddle is a fantastic community program which is rightly lauded but it's also a great way to attract new members. Same applies to our AFLW team. Massive interest and publicity opportunities around women's football. We need to be taking advantage of that. Our stance on pokies garners respect and generates good publicity within the community . If we play our cards right over the next 10 years we could leave clubs like the Saints and Bulldogs in our wake and start breathing down the necks of the Victorian giants. If we have 60 k members in Melbourne and regularly draw 45 k to games the AFL will have zero interest in relocating us.

You get a degree in journalism, land a job at a high-selling paper, and this is what you put to print:

AFL trade news 2017: Which emoji best sums up your club’s business so far?
Jay Clark, Herald Sun

FFS. Pathetic.

Even better: it's behind a paywall.

This is absolute perfection in commentary of the state of the footy media.

Really? The story headline alone is way out of line. Someone needs a serious utensil-punch just for that.

Three North players in Robbo's Top 50.

BBB at 39
Higgo at 43
Cunners at 48

I was going to get outraged at having no one in there but those three are fair enough. I could quibble about where they are ranked but again it's only Robbo's opinion.

Can't post complete list due to the formatting.
31-40
31 (-) DAYNE BEAMS
BRISBANE
MIDFIELDER
SuperCoach 101
THE first-time skipper does everything right and let’s hope he can get a full pre-season followed by a year without injury. Ranked fourth for a permanent midfielder in goals a game and rated above average for disposals.

32 (-) OLLIE WINES
PORT ADELAIDE
MIDFIELDER
SuperCoach 99
TERRIFIC season and topped Port Adelaide’s count in the Brownlow Medal with 18 votes ahead of Brad Ebert (15). Ranked eighth in the league for contested possessions and rated above average for clearances and disposals.

33 (47) MICHAEL HURLEY
ESSENDON
DEFENDER
SuperCoach 103
COACH John Worsfold wanted Hurley to be more attacking and at times he struggled to put body-on-body as a defender. Still, he was the No. 1 key defender in disposals, metres gained, uncontested possessions and was third for intercept possessions.

34 (-) RORY LAIRD
ADELAIDE
DEFENDER
SuperCoach 100
ADELAIDE’S rebounding pocket rocket is difficult to contain. Ranked No. 1 for any defender in disposals, uncontested possessions and second for contested possessions and was a walk-up All-Australian selection.

35 (-) JAKE LEVER
ADELAIDE
DEFENDER
SuperCoach 79
GOOD player, not yet a great player. Going to Melbourne for a reported $750,000 a season after a super year — Leigh Matthews said he was worth the No. 1 pick, but in the end he went for two first-rounders. Ranked No. 1 for intercept possessions and second for intercept marks.

36 (29) ADAM TRELOAR
COLLINGWOOD
MIDFIELDER
SuperCoach 101
PEOPLE like to point out his flaws, mainly kicking, but his inside and outside game and gut-running are strengths that cannot be ignored. Ranked sixth for disposals a game and rated above average for contested and uncontested possessions.

37 (-) TOM LYNCH
ADELAIDE
FORWARD
SuperCoach 85
MIGHT be unlucky not to be higher considering his unique impact on the game. Known as “The Connector” for his work between the arcs. Ranked seventh for score involvements and second of any forward for disposals.

Adam Treloar of the Magpies

38 (-) JEREMY HOWE
COLLINGWOOD
DEFENDER
SuperCoach 94
OK, we know he took the mark of the year, but let’s not cry over spilt milk. Has joined the likes of McGovern and Lever in cutting off the opposition at halfback. Ranked fourth for intercept possessions and third for intercept marks.

39 (-) BEN BROWN
NORTH MELBOURNE
FORWARD
SuperCoach 77
LET’S be honest, big Benny kept presenting, marking and kicking goals in a lowly team. Unlucky to miss All-Australian after being ranked third for goals a game. He was also the target inside 50 more than any other player, but you still have to kick ‘em.

40 (21) CALLAN WARD
GWS
MIDFIELDER
SuperCoach 99.7
HARD head, hard at the footy and can’t be left out. Who doesn’t love the character of the GWS skipper? Was runner-up in the Giants’ best-and-fairest and, overall, was ranked eighth for clearances and rated above average for disposals, contested possessions and goals.

41-50
41 (-) SAM DOCHERTY
CARLTON
DEFENDER
SuperCoach 115
PREVENTED Zac Williams’ All-Australian selection, but you can’t pick them all. Played time in the middle, but mainly was the specialist clean-up guy at the back. Ranked second for disposals among defenders, third for metres gained and fourth for uncontested possessions.

42 (-) NATHAN JONES
MELBOURNE
MIDFIELDER
SuperCoach 100.9
A MIGHTY player for the Demons who might have delivered his best season, perhaps in terms of damage to the opposition. Ranked fourth for inside-50s, and was rated elite for metres gained and above average for goals.

43 (-) SHAUN HIGGINS
NORTH MELBOURNE
MIDFIELDER
SuperCoach 91.9
NORTH’S B & F winner certainly had a career-best season. Combined style with substance and was in everything for the Roos. Elite for metres gained, inside-50s, goals and score involvements, which by anyone’s reckoning is a powerhouse season for a midfielder.

44 (-) TAYLOR WALKER
ADELAIDE
FORWARD
SuperCoach 86
POOR Grand Final and was criticised for not being a contested marking forward, but “Tex” is a key forward with a mid-sized forward’s game. Kicked 54.35 and was ranked third for score involvements and equal No. 1 for score assists. Can’t be left out.

45 (-) CHARLIE DIXON
PORT ADELAIDE
FORWARD
SuperCoach 91
BIG Charlie earned his money, as coach Ken Hinkley would say. Took 149 marks, competed in the air and on the ground and was one goal off 50 for the season, the best return of his career.

47 (-) MATT KREUZER

CARLTON
RUCK
SuperCoach 110

IN and out and eventually in the Top 50 because of his lion-hearted efforts in his best season for the Blues. Was second for clearances among ruckmen, third for disposals and a contender for All-Australian honours.

48 (-) BEN CUNNINGTON
NORTH MELBOURNE
BETTER work ethic in the pre-season made him a more complete player and he’s still one of the game’s best inside midfielders. Ranked sixth for contested possessions and third for clearances — an outstanding return.

49 (-) SEB ROSS
ST KILDA
MIDFIELDER
SuperCoach 101
POINTS for being the best midfield runner in the game, which is crucial when bodies are failing in final quarters. Ranked fourth among wingmen for score involvements and fifth for contested possessions, all while running from point post to point post.

50 (-) KANE LAMBERT
RICHMOND
MID/FORWARD
SuperCoach 86
BARELY knew of him at Round 12 but by 6pm on Grand Final night he was a Richmond hero. Ranked second among midfielders/forwards for score assists, third for pressure points and, most importantly, third in the B & F. That’s third in a premiership team and that’s why he’s No. 50.
