Now that I've got the umpiring moan out of the system, a few things from the game.

- we lacked some poise under pressure at times. Some poor kicks, bad decisions, slipped tackles, etc.
- our starts against Sydney are killing us.
- j merrett, colyer were pretty good.
- Ryder very good. Myers pretty good.
- Hurley our best. Heppell tried hard again.
- winderlich really off tonight with his disposal under pressure, needed a big game from him tonight.

I don't think we played that good to be honest and I wouldn't have been surprised if we had lost by 40+ But the players pushed hard right til the end. Sydney were able to get it from our forward 50 to their forward 50 with ease through the middle of the ground, as well as the wings, far too many times. Better forward defensive pressure would have helped.

It wasn't a % killer. Let's beat the tigers next week.[/QUO

Whoa, say that again..

you though J Merrett was pretty good? Surely you mean Z Merrett..
J Merrett had Ricky Dyson written all over him tonight..

This game was lost at selection for mine, TBC should play some decent football in the 2's before he's thrown to the wolves like that....
We clearly miss Melkshams grunt around the packs..
If we had played Ryder in the ruck all night with Hooker or Carlisle chipping in around the ground he would have had the chance to do what Paddy does best, dominate around the ground..Seeing that Canadian dude dominate TBC was sad..

Our first half was abysmal, yet we managed to end up four goals behind the premiership faves, all is not lost...

If, if if, Jobe can come back and add his normal input, we can have an impact this year...

Was anyone at the ground?

What the hell was the story with the wind?

Can't remember seeing us provide more clangers ever...

Sydney were the better team. Every time I hear fellow Essendon supporters blame the umps I think of the Adelaide supporter against Collingwood. "we were robbed, robbed!"
I reckon the umps cost a team a win once every blue moon, and the moon was plenty white tonight.

On a different note, we missed Hibberds disposal and decision making.
Trade Dempsey yesterday please.
Yeah the umpiring was pretty even, almost every game you see 2 players amass as many free kicks as an entire team.

No it didn't cost us the game, but it ruined yet another Essendon-Sydney game. Just because most of us are calling them out doesn't mean we think that the umps lost the game.

When you see us having momentum and bs frees get paid the other way that haven't been paid for us, I get frustrated and rightly so. There is plenty to talk about from the game and why we lost it, but I think that type of umpiring is unacceptable and we get it every time vs Sydney.

Just thinking about it, have all of Tippet's goals in the last two games bar one (maybe) been from frees inside 50? Has Essendon actually had a free inside 50 in the last two games? Fair enough, if they are all there, pay them. They just seem to get a lot of softish frees in front of goal, yet ones like Ryder and Richards are ignored. Carlisle could have had a couple against Grundy if the ones down the other end are paid. The head-high thing is just a pisstake too, given how many of them they have received in those two games, yet missed possibly the most obvious high contact free in the history of the world.

Dempsey had a shocker but I'll forgive him.

Bellchambers playing hurt us greatly, but Paddy will need his load managed over the next few weeks. I think we play better with him as a lone ruck.

Hibberd out hurt.

Hooker was down. Frustrated me seeing him point fingers left right and centre at blokes who should have been filling space to help him out rather than getting down to the business of beating Tippett 1 on 1. ****ing smarten up Cale.

Ambrose is too happy to draw contests we have numbers at because he's tired. 2 or 3 times we had them outnumbered and he walked it over the line or was happy to hold the ball in for a reset. Teams with a winning mentality would be keeping it alive.

Sydney played the umpires better than us. They were cleaner at their feet and got their knees lower, resulting in the imbalance in the free kick count. In saying that, the one not payed to Paddy after Richards mauled him in the first qtr was as bad a decision as I can remember.

Stanton used defensively through the flanks and wings for the first half? Why? Freed up in the 2nd and he racked them up.

Baguley. Can't handball left handed or am I seeing things?

Who cares about the free kick count? When Winderlich jumps to tackle Tippett and take him high, that's not bad umpiring, that's dumb football

Geez he was sloppy in the first half, basic skill errors really cost us.

Again get schooled by the mobile medium in Goodes. Should have brought Steinberg in as predictably Bellchambers did SFA.
Would love Steinberg to have got an opportunity. It always hurts when I see Parker playing well, which is all the time now. I remember many here, putting up Parkers name in the 2010 draft, and we choose Ariel out of left field instead. He has been on our list for a while now, I think its about time to see what he is made of at AFL level.

Might have to watch the game again because I didn't get a great view of the umpiring.

I think the first quarter killed us. 3 turnovers resulted in Sydney goals and nobody even contested Pyke 10m directly in front... 4 goals that could easily have been avoided.

Hurley was outstanding. Ryder very good as well.

I refuse to talk about umpires anymore, they've been terrible all year for every team.

Was at the game...

Sydney brought the intensity early and we were asleep till 3rd quarter.

Crowd is boring.

SCG is windy as ****

If there is no secret Sydney umpring agenda, they sure could fool me.

We bombed away inside forward 50 too many times instead of holding possession. Sydney barely had to chase us around at all. The mark count tells the story.

I knew we would come since we were fresher, but they outworked us early and then it was always uphill.

Could've been 10 goals down at half time.

Write it off and move on to the final four matches.

Switched off just before quarter time, doubt I was the only one, I simply refuse to waste my time watching that brand of 'football', dont care who's playing, hope it improved for those who watched until the end, but looking at the final score, I will go ahead & assume any improvement from the rolling mall/20 players within a couple meters of each other on display in first quarter was marginal.

Loved this long bomb from Myers, it was nicely set up by the Zerret tackle on the AOTY who threw the ball and tried to con the ump that he hand balled it. I don't blame him for trying his luck with the umps, he's had a good run with them so why not?

how ****in good is the noise when D Myers' left boot hits the ball

Who was the bloke who jumped off the ground and took out our player whilst gaining possession in a Jordan Lewis/Gia type bump scenario? reportable? Of course not~

One trick pony at the moment which is a sad state of affairs at Bomberland.

Positives:

Paddy Ryder - 15 possessions, 2 goals, 28 hitouts for a well rounded game from the big man. Good to see the kudos coming from the media now after the recognition from the Ch7 team last night outlaying his potential as the best ruck men/forward in the game.

Michael Hurley: Dominant display from the big man. Loved his game and attack on the ball. That kicking is amazing.

Dyson Heppel: This bloke just keeps on keeping on. Is he one of the best tap readers in the comp?

Zach MerreT: Genuine chance for the rising star? nuff said

Frees for:
Sydney 14
Essendon 10

High tackle count:
Sydney 10
Essendon 1

Is there a direct correlation between top 4 and high tackles? because all those top teams seem to be exceptional exponents of ducking for frees despite the AFL (yes folks, thats right, the ******* GOVERNING body) publicly declaring they will stamp out the ducking of the head in search of free kicks.

Sydney have McGlynn, K.Jack
Hawthorn have Puopolo, Cyril
Fremantle have Balla
Geelong have Christensen, Selwood,
