So expect 2 more delistings. We have picks 35 (522 pts), 47 (316 pts), 57 (182 pts), 59 (158 pts) and 73 (9 pts). To be able to use these picks for points we have to have 5 list spots open on Draft night. We currently have only 3 (Jones, Schofield and .........). #73 could get into the 50s by the time we use it as clubs use multiple pick on matching academy/ F&S bids.

My money is on Patmore and Garner.
As others have said the rules are a bit different this year. There is also the old delist and re-rookie list move.

Jason Cripps on AA this arvo talking about our trades, the trade period, what we are trying cover with Aliir and Fantasia and what other issues we have with gaps left by retiring players.

Was asked about Jones said will start in the backlines but can see him overtime potentially playing midfield.

Started with 45 = 38 + 6 rookies + 1 Cat B rookie

8 out = 37 Ebert, Westhoff and Watts retired, Grundy(R), Cox (R), Atley, Sutcliffe (R) and Buzza all delisted
33+ 3 + 1 rookies Pasini, Burgoyne and Woodcock unless Woodcock got an upgrade and Fredrick as Cat B

2 traded in = 39 Aliir and Fantasia

2 likely drafted = 41 Jones and Schofield

So potentially 3 more can be added via delisted free agent type, national draft and rookie draft.

Think we will keep Fredrick. 2 years on the rookie list is enough for a Cat B rookie but Covid nullified his 2020.

Next focus needs to be 2021 Free agency. I have a feeling we are going to go after a big signing

We said that last year - but with only 1 pick in the top 70 it will be difficult (and may need it for Jase).

With only 1 pick in the top 70, the free agency route would definitely be the way to go. Hopefully we have another "encouraging year" to entice would-be free agents across to Alberton.

Brad Ebert's role will be the hardest to fill. Wonder who steps up? Xavier is the only one who can compete with his all day 2 way running ability.
Wonder how McKenzie would go? Mature body with excellent set of hands, can bang them from 60. Not sure what his endurance is like, but he'll likely get squeezed out of the back line unfortunately now we have Aliir.

More likely that Clurey gets squeezed out as opposed to McKenzie.

You don't need to use draft picks on a free agent. The club has said the strategy for the next few years is academy picks and free agents. I would love it if we signed Cripps or Bontempelli.

This is peak optimism.

If people don’t care for my opinion they can listen to the many Swans posters who’ve dropped in to say that Alir is more a loose 2nd / 3rd tall defender than a FB

We can’t drop clurey for Alir unless Jonas goes to clureys fb position, which would be a waste.

structure wise Jonas and clurey are the first two backs selected whether you like clurey or not.

McKenzie already took Clurey’s spot at full back. If we had any other viable tall options come finals I’m pretty sure Clurey wouldn’t have played.

We now have that viable option.

Looking to next yrs free agents would love Merrett but you can guarantee dodo would match Cam Guthrie would also be a great addition.

If lists are reduced by 2 then we would have Jones/Schofield and 1 pick?

There was an article saying AFL will allow minimum of 37 maximum of 44 with all rookies A + B in that 44.

At the moment lists can be 38+6+Cat B or 39+5+Cat B or 40+4+Cat B. The article is saying the primary list can be 36 or 37 or 38.

So yes it would be 1 more onto the primary list of 38 via either delisted free agent of the draft. We could cut someone like Patmore down to the rookie list and that would make 2. Patmore is technically out of contract at the moment.

33 + Allir + Fantasia + Jones + Schofield = 37.

AFL club lists sizes will be cut to a minimum of 37 and a maximum of 44 players - including all rookies – next year.

The number of primary list players will be cut by two and the total rookie numbers by one from limits this year.
......

The maximum number of primary listed players on club lists will drop to between 36 and 38 down from 38 to 40 now.

The maximum number of primary-listed players a club can have is contingent on the number of rookies the club wishes to take. This year if a club had 38 primary-listed players they could have up to six rookies, if they had 40 on the primary list they could have up to 4 rookies for a maximum of 44 players. They could then have up to three Category B rookies on top of that.

Under the plan for next year that primary list figure has now been cut by two - to a maximum of 38 primary list players - and clubs can have up to a maximum of six rookies (four category A rookies and two category B rookies) for a total maximum of 44 players.

If a clubs has a full book of seven rookies (four category A and three Category B) they can have only 37 players on their primary list.

Fredrick stays rookie Cat B and Patmore not given a new contract.

So list is now 34 + 3 + 1 = 38 with Jones and Schofield to come.

PORT ADELAIDE defender Martin Frederick has agreed a contract extension to remain at the club until the end of 2021.

The 20-year-old is yet to debut at AFL level but has featured 20 times for the club at SANFL level since being picked up as a Category B rookie at the end of the 2018 season.

The Portland Football Club product was part of the Port Adelaide Next Generation Academy and has become known for his speed and rebound out of defence.

“It’s pleasing for our club to be able to retain Marty as a Category B rookie,” said General Manager – Football, Chris Davies.“He was part of that unfortunate group which did not get to play regularly this year because of the restrictions surrounding our SANFL program. However, his attitude and application could not be questioned. “We look forward to his continued development next season.”

The club can also confirm midfielder/forward Jake Patmore has not been offered a new contract. Patmore arrived at Alberton with pick 58 in the 2017 draft from Claremont in the WAFL...........

That's a shame, sounded like he could have debuted the year he did his ACL.

Wonder if we are interested in a DFA ? Not much out there at the moment still could be more cuts across the league.
Mason Wood or possibly Billy Gower's to play the Ebert role? Before anyone jumps on me just a suggestion 🤣🤣
