No they don't, you can't include Taranto and Hopper in the list of "nearly retired". Far from it.

They reckon our spine consists of older players that will be gone in 12 months? Who exactly? Lynch? Prestia? Who else is this spine? Broad isn't our spine.

Nank isn't retiring anytime soon, 2 or 3 more seasons, he does however need help.

So no they don't have a point at all.
But you would have to concede that over the next 3-4 years we either lose or have less quality output from Vlastuin, Broad, Nank, lynch Prestia, and likely Hopper and Taranto because they will not be playing better than now. So that cancels out some of the benefit of improvement of current younger players.i think we have enough improvement but our trajectory may be not as quick

Why ?

With the younger kids improving in time that will give the older guys less pressure to perform at a higher level and have quality players around them.

Pies have Pendlebury (37) , Sidebottom (34) , Howe (34) , Elliot (32) and many other 30+ year olds playing career best football

Have we really got that many banging the door down. Blight absolutely, but he has Kosi and El Nour doing very well on their forwards, so it does give him a lot of leeway to play off and intercept. Still he is banging.

Clarke is the other one, but won't be far away. Would think MacIntosh might have a nervous week on the track.

Trezise is good enough to be playing. Anyone else?
Banging the door down may have been a little bit of a stretch but there are at least 7 who are ready to step up
  • Tresize
  • Clarke
  • Alger
  • Lefau
  • Blight
  • Rioli
  • Bauer
  • then there is Young, Kosy, Fawcett Ryan who are also playing OK and can pinch hit

The top 5 of that list are cherry ripe to play if needed and play valuable roles - Rioli and Bauer are good enough but just need to sort out some things in the 2s but could step in if needed - Bauer has been pushed right down the pecking order but looked to be getting back into a bit of form last w/e

not including Balta who also played ressies on the w/e

Players who have surprised me this season, elevating from fringe or delist category:
Sam Banks,
Hugo Ralphsmith,

Then to a lesser extent: Prestia, Gray and Miller. Exceeded expectations but not as surprised.
Sonsie and Rioli both had some good games but I need to see them carry their form for longer.

Players I'm yet to see enough improvement in (not that its too late)
Kaleb Smith (but hopeful),
Samson
Green
Bauer
You must drink considerably during games. I’m yet to see some good games from Rioli, what Hallucinogenic were you on?

Greater Western Sydney v Richmond

9 Dion Prestia RICH
8 Jacob Hopper RICH
5 Tim Taranto RICH
5 Lachie Ash GWS
2 Toby Nankervis RICH
1 Ben Miller RICH

You would really hope that in 4 years time those top round picks would be playing consistently and showing signs like Campbell & Banks etc are now.

That's the whole purpose of keeping experience on your list while developing youth. So I won't be conceeding a thing, their deluded thinking says we can't improve while we still have the older players on our list. I call that BS.

the first of our 5 remaining 'winnable' games, Sydeny at home, Essendon, Eagles in WA, St kilda at the G and Norf in tassie. We should be a good chance this week, but think Mills and Amartey are back for them this week which helps them, but at the g and we've been in better form than them. Shame that they got thrashed and this is week for their response

Balta for Trainor
Juddy for Kamdyn

The swans arent overly tall up forward which makes selection interesting,

Probably dont need all of Miller, Gray and Balta. - Does Jonty get a rest and Balta plays fwd to really stretch them? Or do we play all 3 back and rely on midfield pressure to force the swans to bomb it forward and Balta plays a pure intercept role breaking the world record?
That’s the changes I’d make

Steely Green was pretty good I thought to deserve another week but would love to see an Alger debut on the MCG

Amartey is suspended for another week

Every time you think Steely should be dropped, he seems to perform the week after.

they are bruise free footballers though

He was towelled up by Cadman. Shows promise but Balta is clearly a better option for now.
He was not towelled up by Cadman. Cadman was no.1 pick for a reason, because he can play. Took a couple of good marks but you have to expect that. some of Gray's pack spoils were fantastic. For a 3rd gamer he's playing like a seasoned player, remember Balta and Rance at his stage.

Balta was ordinary in the VFL. If him coming in means Gray gets dropped I'll be pissed.

It's his own fault hes in and out of the team, make him earn it at least.
No way can drop Gray
He’s been amazing the last 2 weeks

I reckon he’s gonna be a GangStar like Harris Andrews
Looks a boss already

Riccardi : marks & goals on Gray & Broad.
Cadman pack mark in front of Miller. One on Gray
Brown kicked 3. Pack mark; crumb in front of a pack. One in front of Vlas. Hard to defend that kick.

But Vlas is off the boil.
Agree. Maybe Vlas is a bit off the boil, but he was marking Riccardi a fair bit of the time, who is a good deal bigger. But Vlastuin's ground work and general play was pretty good.

I agree with you BUT

I think the pressure will come from the injury list. I don't dare name them, but I can count 4 which should be taking spots by ~ round 15.

Yep, Lord of the W lays the bait and some fall for it every time.
West Coast lack defenders and picks and have Harley Reid. We have more defenders than we can play and two first round picks. If Balta gets pissed off with the crowd booing and endless media references to his suspension, then he could ask for a fresh start. It would have to be initiated by him though. Stranger things have happened.
But you are right just a bit of fun and pure speculation.

Those Collingwood guys look like they are training for the Enhanced Games. Last time I saw players that were that muscled and that fast was at Essendon just before.........

I haven’t read they have said they will retire in 12 months. But they have a point in that we need players to replace them for our next flag tilt.
