'That was us' against Richmond - frustrating as shit for long stretches but enough good patches to get across the line. Very good JVR hit the last hard.

Seemingly no injuries. A meh performance from a lot of blokes. Harmes looks ready to come back. Probably for JJ? Bowey ordinary with the ball; maybe swap for Laurie and flick some magnets about.

Anyway, discuss.

So that would be Turner (I'm OK with that) and...Dunstan? Who else do we have as a mid rotation?

Though apparently Dunstan suffered severe leather poisoning at Casey so it could be on the cards.
Probably don't have anyone do we to play midfield. Lauries too small and then it's really thin for blokes playing well after that. Harmes I guess

But yeah bring in Disco. Need another defender who defends first

Ah I did forget about Harmes. Not that I've been impressed with his output lately. Probably doesn't matter that much if it's Dunstan or Harmes, don't think either will have much impact.

Agree it would be nice to have another defender that can go for a spoil though. Doesn't feel like Bowey or Rivers are actually defending an opponent. Gus appears to be but is doing an average job of it (though I'll admit he was slightly better this week).

McVee had a pretty poor game but I saw some good signs from him as a rebounding defender. Hit the ground handball forward successfully a few times and hit JVR in the last. Worth persisting with as there's definitely something there.

Five day turnaround might mean it's time to rest a sore body or two. But on form -

Spargo for Jordan

Bowey deserves to be dropped so another small defender in

Jordan and Sparow out Harmes and Spargo in. Both Sparrow and Jordan were as bad as each other with their defensive running, Harmes isn’t too great at it either but a point needs to be made.

Petty should not be playing forward. Doesn’t know when to lead, doesn’t create an option to provide someone to link up to. We are far too stagnant with him forward. Not sure what the answer is though…

Mcvee is playing like Pig used too and Pig is playing like Nev used too. Mcvee probably needs to find a balance between and attack an defence but he's young, he will

Is Spargo an automatic in though? Don't reckon his form was great pre-concussion tbh.

OUT: Rivers, Jordon

IN: Brown, Harmes

Toss up between JJ and Sparrow, but I'd give Sparrow one more chance just purely based on clearances against Norf. Petty to the backline again.

Spargo can earn a call up I reckon. Wasn't loving his form before the concussion.

Jordon had 2 tackles and Sparrow had 1, they didn't do the fundamentals well enough tonight, but both also stood up under pressure at different times. I don't think either should be dropped this week, especially given the slower game style North plays will give them a chance to get their tackle on.

We were pretty even across the board as a whole. Fritsch and Pickett had quiet nights by their standards, but the slow ball movement hurt them in the first 2.5 quarters. ANB had a low disposal game but was clutch quite a few times across the game, especially his contested marking oddly enough.

Bowey grew into the game when the defence began to calm down, but his form worries me. Rivers now two shockers in a row, and came off injured, a good time to rest him.

I'd go Rivers out (inj/rest), Spargo in. Dunstan and Harmes unlucky, but that's what happens after a win where the team fights back.

No thanks to Brown and TMac. I loved how Petty competed and, when the ball moved faster, showed he can win 1v1s. No use kicking 50 metres down the line and letting their third man up come across though, which we did multiple times to him and JVR. Please just play the two of them and back them in, BBB only needs to come in if we need Petty down back or one of the rucks goes down. McDonald has burned all bridges IMO.

I liked McVee's game. Sure he had a few nervy moments but he stuck to Martin even when he turned it on like the old days. He's very creative with the ball. Loves a feint or a ground handpass to himself, and he actually does it to advantage. There's more to work with there as a defender than there is for Rivers, who remains a deer in headlights in our D50 but works hard down the line and is a monster kick.

Spoke to a group of random Dees fans at the game tonight and I couldn't believe how many or them wanted Brown back. Nothing I saw tonight suggested we're in need of a slow tall forward who can't mark the ball. We have our issues, but Brown and TMac ain't solving them.

Time for Disco surely? Don't care who we drop. Maybe Bowey. Need another bloke who can mark and defend if Petty plays forward.

Spargo in for JJ.

I think Spargo has been confirmed as out for another week.

Visceral reactions

[PLAYERCARD]Steven may[/PLAYERCARD] need to think about losing his feet in contests, trailing his man to the ball and having 4 goals kicked on him BY A FOSSIL. Other than that he was ok. Delist.

JVR - really embarrassed himself in the last quarter. You may need to apply for a job with Elon Musk, because catching falling space junk isn’t in in the MELBOURNE DEMONS DNA. Welcome to the AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE, rookie.

Petracca - I really liked how he highered his eyes and made sure that his kicks penetrated the earth’s upper atmosphere.

Gumby - this was one of my favourite episodes where the Blockheads nearly took over but Gumby with some from Pokey was able to SAVE THE DAY! 🥳🤗

Viney - could he be the CHECKER HUGHES MEDALLIST? Yep.

Lever - seemed to play better this week after being virtually anonymous in the last match. Still needs to shave his sideburns. Delist.

Brayshaw - decided to wear his helmet the right way on this week and HAD A MUCH BETTER GAME.

Gawn - feeling like this was his best game since round 1. Don’t know what has been up with his form recently.

Hunter - Jayden had a tidy game again, it seems he has worked out that he is a left footer later in life and look at the results. 👀

Oliver - I thought Clanton stunk it up again. Maybe he’s self conscious about his bald patch but his topknot toupee is not aerodynamic enough.

Hibberd - that’ll do.

Clangdon - I think that Nedward had a good game and did his best not to clang too much

Laurie - good to see that Chaminda has inspired another CRICKET CONVERT SUPERSUB 🥳

Bowser - just looks lost in a game when he isn’t given an objective like kidnapping Princess Toadstool.

Jim Jones - the Koolaid was quite WEAK this WEEK.

[PLAYERCARD]Trent Rivers[/PLAYERCARD] - I think the RISING STAR is now between him and [PLAYERCARD]KYLE LANGFORD[/PLAYERCARD]

ANB - I just don’t think any of us are going to be satisfied until he goes 30 and 5.

Fritsch - the Cassowary looked very shy and timid without his unlikely animal friend chihuahua ‘Charles’ Spargo. 😢

Swallow - one swallow doesn’t make a summer but two is worth a handful of gas that we can cook fairies with a side of toadstools with. 🍄

Petty - I just wish he would understand that he don’t have to live like a refugee

Pickett - I just don’t understand why the MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB are trying to sign him up for a 4 year deal when we could sign him for two and trade him after one to get FULL VALUE.

Chaminda - another good game from the boy from the SRI LANKAN CRICKET TEAM FOOTY FACTORY.

Judd - really is headed for the bin. Too old too slow.

McVee - new person same mistakes.

Out: Steven, JVR, Gumby, Lever, Oliver, Bowser, Jim Jones, Rivers, ANB, Fritsch, Petty, Pickett, Judd, McVee

In: Tomlinson, T McDonald, Dunstan, O McDonald, J Smith, Disco, Farris-Buellar, Milkshake, BBB, Shaq, Moniz-Wakefield, Salem, Spargo

Sparrow played well tonight, credit where it is due. Liked the Pig Knuckle combo down back, thought Bowey & Riv were quiet but they have credit. JJ did fine as well, Nibbler important. Essentially, our 'bottom end of the 22' blokes played well. I think it is important to rotate some sore bodies a little on a short turnaround, and Spargo and Harmes in makes the most sense, but genuinely don't know who to bring in.

I don't think Rivers was injured was he? I didn't see any injury. He had a mild cramp right before he got subbed but he was running fine. I think the turnover was just the nail in his coffin after a terrible game from start to finish. 1 kick, 3 handballs, 0 marks, 0 tackles in the first half was unforgivable. He also went soft in a contest in the middle of the ground with [PLAYERCARD]Marlion Pickett[/PLAYERCARD] where they both waited for each other to pick up the ball.

Sparrow was named in the best in the official match report for what it's worth.
