Recommitted Tim Kelly [exploring trade options home to West Coast]

At every club players have issues with teammates .....to say that every player on a list is best mates, or doesn't dislike a team mate, just isn't true
Apparently the issue was more between TK's wife and one of the players, a past relationship or something like that

Just more made up stories.

First it’s he doesn’t like Ross Lyon now it’s someobe once upon a time dated his wife.

Both fronts he needs to grow up. But we know they aren’t true.

Tim just wanted to go to the more successful club and pick n choose we’re he plays.

Family was never in Tim’s mind with any of this.

As you said they must be quiet serious issues. The reasons he wants to go back to WA are quiet important to his family. You’d think there could have been a resolution.

One of the Freo players took his parking spot, and they had a verbal stoush ?.

Freo players parking >>>>>> South Freo players parking ?.

Geelong will get less for Kelly next year, so they clearly think they are in the window now and were happy to keep Kelly for one more year. Fair enough.

When was the last time a rookie could afford to have a poor year and know they would still get a massive contract the following year?:moustache: Kelly is a boss right now

Your 1st this year may as well have been a second rounder.
His value is a 1st round inside 12 i reckon.
He is quality and will be 25 next season.

Next year the price depending on where you finish is still to be two 20s picks at least.
You were better off paying the cost this year to have 12 months earlier as he would be a walk up start in your side let alone any side in the comp.
And what happens if Kelly's form should fall off this year - it is a possibility (not saying it will happen)with a family who's unhappy can effect your work output?

Sounds like you are the one making stuff up.

Oh that ! .......yep players wives / girlfriends can rip teams apart .....Tyson Edwards v Andrew Mcleod the most famous, where the two players played for 3 years together & refused to speak to each other

Then how on earth were we ever going to trade for what Geelong wanted?
If true then both teams wasted a lot of time on a trade which was never going to eventuate.
That is what is amazing about the whole thing - knowing what Eagles had to offer and it was most unlikely any other Club was going to part with a top 10 pick to do a swap, as to why Geelong just didn't knock the whole thing on the head from the word go. Also Geelong kept shifting the goal posts. It was just mind boggling and awaste of time as you said.

And yet Sam Mitchell broke his contract with WC for similar reasons and is being celebrated for it by the media.

Huge double standards.
Yes it is ....although again it's not the club breaking the Contract, but ex-players now Coaching, who continue to believe a Contract is only applicable to protect them & not the Club

Yet clubs do it to ......Homsch this year

IMO if you coerce a player / coach to break their Contract ....the offending club should be liable to transfer (not amend) that Contract & pay a "penalty" fee

This trade not going through was always the likely outcome. Look at the facts:

- Kelly is contracted so Geelong always were going to demand overs.
- Kelly nominated only WCE whilst also saying he'd be happy to play in Geelong if a deal can't get done.
- WCE believe that Kelly will come next year when he's out of contract.

With above being true it's completely understandable for Geelong to want overs to trade and also understandable for WCE not to want give overs. I think the Eagles definitely gave it a fair crack by offering 3 second rounders but given Geelong are in a position where they need to to try and win now with Hawkins, Dangerfield, Selwood and co you can't begrudge them for wanting to hold onto one of their best players while he's contractually obliged to play for them .

They never shifted the goalposts once.

I agree wholeheartedly. The fact that he said, he doesn't want to go from a successful club like Geelong to a battler club in Fremantle says 'sookla' to me.
Probably that & the $600K a year Contract on offer too

Yet why is Shiel allowed to just nominate Essendon. Come on, every player does it. Kelly is being unfairly singled out. Other players and trades are given a positive spin.

So we run purely on facts here.

The compensation pick for lycett counts as a first round pick. The second round pick on offer in this years draft is the second highest value second rounder available. On top of that Geelong wanted next years first round pick.

So Geelong wanted 2 first round picks and the second highest value second round pick in this years draft (which is considered to be the strongest in some time)

Even if you want to spin it in Geelongs favour.

That is pick 18,20,22 for a guy with major family issues who they picked up in the draft 12 months before hand for pick 24. They are within their rights to ask what they want but anyone trying to suggest they acted in good faith to get Kelly home or asked for reasonable compensation is a first class *******. The fact is they didn't give a flying * about Kelly's situation and only wanted to do a deal if it was exceptionally in their favour.

Also remember they were dealing with West Coast, one of two clubs along with Hawthorn renowned across the league for getting deals done without fuss and paying a fair price.

Next year watch as the offer that gets done is West coasts first for Kelly and Geelongs second.

That should be their first and final offer to Geelong. If they decline this, commit to taking him with their first pick in the draft which should be high teens. Freo won’t touch him with their top ten pick.

Geelong doesn’t get as much value back as if they had have traded him this year, but he plays out another year for them to compensate. They just need to capitalise on having him in their side in 2019.

best moneyball player in the AFL.

Rookie wage plus match payments, total bonus.

Any chance the eagles draft a player at 20 or 22 that the cats like (e.g. Ed McHenry from the Geelong Falcons) to make the trade easier next year.
