I thought Hunter (especially in the first half) was good. One missed handball and people are on his back.

Two people I was really worried about going into the game were Biggs and Hamling, I think they both played pretty well.

Grant was Grant. If we want to be a top 4 team next season he doesn't play 15+ games. Unless he pulls his finger out.

Dale Morris was awesome that last quarter.

(This is going to sound hypercritical after what I said about Hunter...) I still don't rate crameri. It's so frustrating to see him just bomb it most times he gets it. Or if he's within 60m have a ping. The one play were he had Wallis open for a handball but kicked it long to the square had me pulling my hair out. Has tunnel vision for the goals.

Feel really bad for Morris, Murphy and Boyd, especially Moz. They are running out of time and all were magnificent this season and again last night. Morris in particular saved us countless times. Is he the best one on one in the comp? I'd argue he is yet lesser players at bigger clubs get way more credit. Much better bloke and player than Lake or Griffen will ever be.

I've said it before and will repeat but is there a better small forward than Dickson (well maybe Betts). He plays really well in the big games like the freo game and this one. Stringer gets all the publicity but this guy is going to be just as good for us in finals.

Disappointed but not devastated.
Haven't read any posts on this thread so don't know others analysis. re Roberts: He was physically no match for Walker which was predictable. What we were unable to prevent, and what the Crows were successfully able to engineer, was the frequent isolation of Fletch in one on one contests with Walker. That was costly for us and we didn't seem able to get a third man to help him often enough, so credit to the Crows there.
For all that, like Sydney in the game prior, we created more than enough scoring opportunities and if we'd kicked straight we'd have won.

Once he gets a big stronger and more experienced Fletch will be a great defender. Remember we don't play a 7 man defence to protect him and he usually plays on the gun forwards. Much better option than Roughead or Talia.

That loss means the bulldogs get a middle six draw and not the top six draw that a win would have produced, so the the draw next year isn't going to be much different and when you lose to 3 poor teams this year it doesn't really matter anyway.

There's no need to worry about other sides that haven't progressed as quickly as they were supposed to, because this team is much more talented than any of them. Look at how young and talented the midfield was last night without Stevens and Libba;
Macrae: 21
Dahlhaus: 23
Bont: 19
Hunter: 20
Wallis: 22
Jong: 22
Picken: 29

You just don't see sides like that in finals, so good luck too anyone coming up against them in the next few years and that's not even adding the very talented first year players from this year.

Dicko got an incredibly soft one 20 out from goal in the third. I don't think they were the difference but it frustrated the hell out of me that they can't bounce the bloody thing - there must have been about 6 recalls.

They need to look at a one recall limit a quarter. After that it is balled up each time for the remainder.

No dispute. I don't blame Fletch and rate him. But having him (at this stage in his development) and walker isolated enough where someone couldn't leave their man to influence that contest was always going to work in the crows favour and the crows pulled it off often enough for it to have a bearing on the outcome. Effectively they spread our back 6 far enough to make this possible.

I feel nothing but positiv about the game
What lost this for us was immaturity and nothing else
The occassion didn't overwhelm our players because we played well.
But the pressure of the occassion got to our players around the goal face.
All it needed was a little calmness a bit of presence a little ruthlessness

It was a tease of a game where for two hours we may have at. Any time split it apart but at no time quite did it.
A game where I felt we dominated play but still lost

I expect us to be much more ruthless next season

Crows forward set was super impressive, they can't sign Campo up quick enough. The problem was that we over committed on numerous occasions and left no one out the back. No defender is going to be of use in that situation. Wood, Murph and Boyd were the worst offenders, if it comes off it looks great but we looked terrible on occasions.

Just saw this on a Facebook comment, pretty disappointing how inaccurate we have been in our last few finals
Eliminated with these scores:
08 - 7.12
09 - 7.14
10 - 8.16
15 - 14.18
It's disappointing to think what might have been, but the 2000s finals are hardly relevant to our team now. Something to consider is that in the late 2000s, teams would often rush behinds intentionally to get the ball into the hands of the best kicker, which could contribute to the earlier scorelines above.

Another thing to consider is where the shots are from. In the eade days, we had a lot of shots from difficult angles because we kicked to smalls in the pockets, which will make it harder to convert. Tonight, our set shots were not difficult, we just missed a lot of easy ones.

The other thing to notice is that these are not actually our last few finals, as you claimed- they are just the ones where we were eliminated. If you take a sample of our finals football and don't include our wins, the statistics are not going to be pretty.

I feel a lot better after watching Bevo's presser. I think he identified where we went wrong and will be looking to work on it over pre-season.

Next year I feel confident we'll be there again. As Bev mentioned pushing the zone too far up early in the game resulted in some very preventable goals, next time the kids will be better for the experience.

Save those goals and continue pumping them through at the other end, will mean we'll be going further than we did this year.

Well, I've been up a few hours and I must say I'm feeling much better. When I think back on the season, I'm so grateful that the boys completely exceeded our expectations pre-season. The previous three seasons were hellish for me. I didn't look forward to the weekend because I basically knew what was coming. This year was different. At a time I really needed a distraction from my life here, the Doggies gave me something to look forward to every weekend.

As many of you know I am still here as I took on the responsibility of being caregiver for my late father and my mother. Mum is still with us, but the doctor said that she is slowly wearing down and will rejoin my father some time in the next few months most likely. I now have to provide 24/7 care and have little time to myself. The footy this season was my great distraction from my life here. For the first time since Rocket left, I looked forward to every weekend and was absolutely thrilled with the performance of the team. It took my mind off the difficulties here at home. I have never felt so confident that a Premiership is around the corner more than I am now. I just hope I'll be around to see it.

So thank you to Bev, Bob and the entire team for giving this one distant supporter a most wonderful summer.

I guess I'm lucky because my Cubs have also played beyond expectations. It's been a doubly fun summer because of the two teams I love the most. Hopefully I'll also still be around when the Cubbies attain the ultimate.

I continue to live in hope. :D
All the best to you Chicago. I love reading your posts and knowing someone cares from far far away. Another result of the loss is all this banter ends too early (I'm not into team moves and tactics talk, only because I know nothing! ). Sending good vibes and best wishes to you between now and next season. Take care of yourself.

Yes that's true too. Their forwards were very effective on the night, partly from their own work and partly from a few of our lapses. And yet despite their effectiveness, the game was still ours to win if we'd kicked straight, which is a little frustrating.
Anyway, we'll be playing a lot of finals games there over the next decade so we'll call it experience. A very good season all things considered.

honeychurch was useless. too small without the class that daniel has.
fletch was involved directly in 3 second half adelaide goals. but to be honest the one where he dropped the mark was a POOOOOR choice by bob to kick it there. shoulda gone down fwd to stringer, at worst out of bounds.
grant is a terrrrible kick.
our backline is just horrible. any def 50 entries turn to scoring shots.

I agree. And to see that photo of murph on the ground after the siren in the paper this morning just screams NOT FAIR! What a downer.

But us playing at etihad would of gave us the edge. Playing at the MCG was neutral territory. Not a home final for us. As i said that win under our belt would of gave us the confidence to match hawks at the MCG. Can't wait for next year. So what am i gonna do now. I hate cricket :(
Yeah I know, same crisis here except we have to listen to the biased crows media for another week

Well based on this years progress we have to finish top 4 next year as heavyweights and go on to win it in 2017. That's the logical progression

Nowhere near clean enough, especially by hand. And I'm not sure that Adelaide can play any better than they did tonight. They're a good, ordinary side. That's it. We will learn. Good season overall boys.
Did you happen to watch Adelaide v West Coast in round 22. Best performance of any club this year.

Better than western Melbourne ;)

Feeling very uncharacteristicly positive after the narrow defeat last night. It's hard to be critical of these kids, who hasn't made mistakes under pressure.

These kids had a sniff and they'll be hungry
