AFL WEBSITE News Item for today written by Damien Barrett under the heading-Sliding Doors Round 4 indicating higher percentage of injuries at Collingwood can be contributed to the ground surface at HOLDEN CENTRE of which the Club is loathe to admit publicly. Inuendos of course however where there is smoke there could be fire lurking.

Or the lazy sod just reads big footy.

It’s interestng the ground theory.
If it is too hard, a good watering system migh.t help.
Though nothing beats a good rain.

For years I've attended training and I usually walk across the ground and I've always been amazed that this is the surface the biggest club in Australia trains on. It should be pristine. The Holden Center is great and the position is incredible so I understand there needs to be sacrifices with it being a public space and all, but it always shits me to see a situation where after training some random jokers turn up after and start doing a session in athletic spikes on the actual grass we just trained on.

Think Steele admitted some players had mentioned it to him. With drier summers we can expect that it will keep getting harder unless something is done, I'd say. Having said that, it seems like a bit of an overblown story. Doing a hammy at training can also mean the "loads" are off, or the drills are too demanding, etc.

Anyone notice that the club has starte d slipping in injury news on other articles. Like, “Veteran midfielder Daniel Wells played in the VFL on the weekend in his return from a hamstring injury but was rested for the final term and won't be in calculations for next week’s clash”

Wait, wells had a hamstring? I thought it was Achilles soreness? Did I miss that?

Maybe by “volcanic activity” in the offseason Perty meant that our players were training on a ground composed of predominately volcanic rock?
Fun fact - we do train on volcanic rock. The Yarra River (Birrarung) in the area runs along the contact between ~430 million year old marine sandstone / mudstones that make up the bedrock of the Toorak / South Yarra / Kew areas and most of the eastern suburbs and the <1 million year old volcanic basalt of Richmond / Collingwood and most of the western suburbs. The volcanic rocks erode much more easily (hence the flatter topography of those areas), so unfortunately we can't blame the volcanic activity on the players injuries :(

Meh not big news. When recovering from one injury niggles often occur elsewhere.

I'm more interested in what the club has to say about turnover at the selection table. Much what we've been saying here.....pick the best side availalable for Esseondon and then make some changes after that.

Any word on how Tim Broomhead's surgery went?

I think the report went along the lines of 'Broomhead had his surgery which went well but he's going to be out for the rest of the season"

Has there been any update on Kayle Kirby?
http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2018-04-17/injury-update-key-players-near-a-return

Levi Greenwood is beginning to build up his fitness base after a lengthy recovery from knee surgery, while Kayle Kirby will continue undergo testing on his heart.

Kirby was hospitalised after collapsing during a VFL practice match a fortnight ago, but he has since returned to the club and remains on light duties while he is tested.

Yeah there's lots of Comedians doing shows, telling funny jokes n stuff.

The biggest show at the comedy festival this season is called "Injuries - what would we do without them?" by Geoff Walsh
It’s free, and you don’t even have to listen to him plug sponsors

ON THE BLOCK: The Magpies are counting the cost of their loss to Richmond with two serious injuries. Reid limped off the ground late with an achilles, something which could rule him out for months if the damage is bad. Likewise, James Aish hurt the PCL ligament in his knee and could also be out for more than one month. Brayden Maynard rolled his ankle but is tipped to face the Lions. Tom Langdon may also return from soreness. He was a late withdrawal.

ON THE CUSP: Collingwood will look to regain midfielder Taylor Adams and key tall Darcy Moore, while Alex Fasolo will also push for selection. His form has been building in the VFL. Nathan Buckley said Daniel Wells was unlikely but would be available for selection. Moore is important because he could replace injured centre half forward Darcy Moore.

JAY CLARK’S FORECAST: The Pies will have a light week on the track ahead of Sunday’s trip to Brisbane to play the Lions at the Gabba. The Magpies played three games in 10 days including Sunday’s 43-point loss to Richmond. But the scoreboard flattered the Tigers and the Magpies were much better than the margin suggested. Collingwood has won eight of its last 10 games against the Lions.
