Both are certainly better at this stage yes. Long way to go though.
And they are both playing in far superior teams with quality defenders around them, and plus our rubbish midfield gets hammered every week, which puts even more pressure on the backline. Put DGB IN Richmond or Geelong and he wouldn’t be exposed as often.

They are referring to the Geelong De Koenig, who has a bit of development time over both Gibcus and DGB.

Don't agree with this.. Did you watch tonight's game?? Dekoning didn't have Stewart to help him most of the game and won all his one on ones against naughton!! He absolutely dominated one of the best forwards in the game. How many one on ones does Dgb win? He looks nervous and clueless when the ball goes near his opponent. As a key back you should be able to compete one on one.

Dekoning didn't have Stewart to support him tonight yet he smashed one of the best forwards in the game...he won his one on ones,, all of them!! Something Dgb has been clueless at..good backline or not, if you can't compete one on one you shouldn't be playing key back.
So keep your naive opinions to yourself and enjoy watching Dgb lose us games this weekend as well... Oh wait, he's been dropped!

YUp fair enough.. I'm only going on what we've seen so far... None of us have a crystal ball so I don't understand the blind faith based on no evidence. But hopefully he will get better.

Gibcus ( who will be a gun ) had to moved off Buddy last week who took him too the cleaners in about 20 minutes .
Can only imagine some of the outcry here if that was DGB .
Comparisons with De Koning are even poorer , playing in a side that wins most weeks with an experienced hardened side around him.
9 times out of 10 the ball is coming in with decent pressure .

DGB has won plenty of one on ones, and shown plenty in other games, otherwise he’d have already been dropped.
He’s played 15 games, he’s not the finished product and he’ll make mistakes along the way of being fast tracked. No s**t.
Stop talking overstated rubbish.

The young man is playing against the biggest and strongest forwards in the game. He looks as though he is putting on the size he needs to compete he has began to look more confident as the weeks go on but I would expect him to lose more contests than not for the next 30 odd games. I have confidence the young man will become a star. I hope the Hawthorn community sticks by the young man and trust the rebuilding it’s looking good as a whole.
The obvious difference is De Koning size. Over 200cm. Already big enough and getting even bigger. Genuine gorilla size in 3 years.
Denver will never be as big but hopefully just as good or better. Re visit in 2-3 years.
De Koning is a no brainer pick in hindsight. Big, skillful kid who moves well and can defend.

SDK is going to be a freak but let's not forget he is also 16 kgs heavier then Denver at this stage. I've said it before but they also have a midfield that can pressure the opposition's clean entries inside 50 which we don't. When we did against Brisbane how much better did Denver look??.
I actually think it will be good for him to go back and smash his opponent in the vfl for at least a month.

Geez Geelong did well to get someone of that size and good in the contest at such a young age at Pick 19. Going to be a genuine star defender for the next decade.
And DeKoning plays in a side that has a heap of experience, not just in the backline , but all over the ground who apply great pressure which helps the defenders out. DGB is hung out to dry sometimes. Yes he didnt have a great game last week, but he has played a handful of games.Some people just don’t get that.

Did you watch the game? Naughton was dropping everything which had nothing to do with De Koning.
Naughton is the most overrated player in the league he isn't close to be in the top handful of KPF, having his best season by a mile and still can't crack the top ten for goals per game, does that sound like one of the best forwards?

By the end of 2023 we will probably know what we have. We ******* need him to become elite in time, that's absolutely for certain. You just have to nail the early picks.

Given the state of our list we absolutely need all of Day, DGB and Ward to be massive hits and worthy of their selections.
