No, there was a fair amount of angst. Probably the best decision Bolts made was to take Russell with him to Carlton. Bolts is long gone and Russell was retained by Voss.

Need to recall that Hawthorn poached Russell from Port Adelaide when Clarkson was named coach. Russell was on Mark Williams' staff when they won the 2004 flag as the Head Fitness Coach, and he was also on Sheedy's staff for Essendon's 2000 premiership.

Russel's departure was weird, I don't think anyone was unhappy with it - they were just unhappy with the situation surrounding his departure. Bolton left for Carlton and headhunted Russell in-season.
