Watching the footage, the thing I like most about Hugo is his acceleration. You can be the fastest player over 60 metres, but I would take the fastest over 5-10 metres any day. It makes a huge difference, breaking tackles, getting that yard on your opponent, putting pressure on and tackling etc..It is not a common attribute, even at the highest level.

Some highlights of his 2023 AGSV season for Assumption below:

Thanks Muu, you can see the traits that attracted us to grab him. Another midfielder with a genuine burst away from stoppages, strong over head and takes on tacklers is exactly what we need. He plays lot taller at that level than I saw in his brief Calder Cannons highlights. Hopefully we have jagged another late diamond.

Playing for Assumption (Kilmore) does anyone know where his home town is?

Played for Greenvale and Taylors Lakes.

Although it’s only school football, Garcia looks really quick and dynamic.. has composure and willing to take the player on then burst out of congestion, exactly the type of mid we want.. Really liked him playing on very quickly after taking a mark, an excellent goal kicker too. it’s only 1 video, quite impressed with him for a pick #50.
That passage where he’s just pushing the ball across the ground with his hands, while running at pace, to then clean collect and dispose neatly is a really underrated capability.

It’s what we need more of around the ball, players that can specialise in the loose ground ball get.

Time trial will be interesting. Looks like Hugo has been running 7min 30 for 2.5 km (so around 6 min for 2km?) since he was 10.

Love his work rate…looks a very promising all round player, could debut early!

Very nice! Looks like a footballer playing against boys there hahaha. Clearly excellent at his craft already. How do we find these guys? Not even the draft gurus had a video of him.
Looks like real chance to me. Another left footer as well.

Seems to play a lot taller than 185 cm, but definitely looks like he's got the speed and endurance to play hhf, wing and take a centre bounce or two.

The clearance @ 3.08 is sublime. All we need now is a tap ruckman:)

Shifter said he ran a 2.90 at preseason sprint test.
