Hill signed the contract that was heavily front ended, if he really wants to leave for family reasons he'll have to take less money and go to a team freo can get the best offer from, we're happy to keep him. if the saints want him pay up.

No I'm saying if Acres was put up for a trade he'd be worth a second round pick at best, so if the saints want Hill you'll have to pay the price, he's worth pick 5 as an uncontracted player but since he's contracted for two more seasons you'll have to pay the premium price of pick 5 plus Acres. it's pretty simple from the dockers point of view, if you want him pay up if not we're happy to keep him.

really you honestly think that in the eyes of a player who has for the second year straight requested trade from your club that it would be the club he wants to go to that would be out of favour in his mind in a situation where a trade couldnt be negotiated ?
so if he has chosen St Kilda then thats where he wants to play if Fremantle are being the road block into him getting to the team he wants to play for and are the roadblock to him living in the same state as his missus and are the roadblock stopping him earning $900k do you really honestly think its going to be St Kilda he is mad at ... really ...
Yes, you are right they won’t be happy.
That doesn’t decease the hand Freo has but more likely increase it.
Fremantle holds the cards and St Kilda need to pay overs or will tell Hill and Young we can trade him to another Melbourne club.
Saints need outside run and will be wanting to make finals next year.
Not great look for ST Kilda is the deal falls through.
The pressure in Hill and Saints to get a deal done not the Dockers.

yes in theory but as you mentioned St Kilda isnt the only club interested in Hill but its reported St Kilda is his preferance for what ever reason (money , opportunity... whatever) he has chosen St Kilda, its pretty fair to say other clubs not willing to pay more for hill sallary wise are not likely to pay Fremantle more trade wise so you can throw the "he can go to the team who gives the best offer" line all you like the fact of it is St Kilda are still going to be that team that offer you the best deal for Hill ... if its pick 5 alone , no club is bettering that trade for hill , heck if its pick 12 no club is bettering that deal for hill either so you are put with the choice do you accept the best deal offered for him or do you hold him back another year after requesting trade and see how that makes Hill feel and what that does to his team dynamic ...

Acres is also contracted .. you aint getting him for free with pick 5 .... no way pick 5 and acres for hill & a future second round sure ... but considering the market demand for Hill and your club showing their hand for pick 5 for Hill you are not getting that much ... i would be pretty darn livid with my club if the throw away Acres for nothing

Brad Hill really isn’t as hard done by as you’re making out. He’s happily taken Freos front loaded cash.
That's just spin. Saints are the road block who yet again can't get a deal done. But he doesn't especially want to play for you, he just wants the dollars you are putting up. Plenty of other options for him to find his way to Melbourne if the Saints don't value him.
B Hill chose the saints because of money and St Kilda being in the South East.
Now, Fremantle is saying Hill has another two years on low money and the other years were front loaded.
If you want Hill, you need pay for the front loaded contract.
Pick 5 and cap space or pick 5 plus extra picks and players.
Fremantle will be losing cap space and Hill.
It must be overs for Hill.

It's not desperate. St Kilda drafted some mature players last season because their supporters are requiring results in a highly competitive market, they expected to do better this season and they are needing to give their supporters hope. New coach and shedding highly rated players will put their fans off, they need something to get them excited.
Fremantle is in the exact same position.
Putting a salary on Hill that values him in that echelon is an act of desperation after numerous trade failures. It also reveals that they are prepared to get the deal done now that they have at last put so much money in front of a player that they have finally been nominated. Wouldn't want to lose the fish now, especially when Fremantle have been clear about what needs to happen if you want to poach a contracted player.
They are desperate.

If you commit to trading in a player then you need to get the deal done, the seller holds all the power. Look at Hawks overpaying for O'Meara, Essendon overpaying for Shiel, they made a commitment to the player and got screwed at the trade table, both 11th hour deals.
Pick 5, which will end up pick 7, should get the deal done but both clubs will posture for a while. Unfortunately deals like this that drag on through trade week hold up lots of other downstream deals involving other clubs.

Ya if you look at the Carlisle trade on paper that’s basically the same.
In the deal:
- Essendon receives Bird and pick No.5, gives up Carlisle and pick No.44, and exchanges pick No.23 for pick No.24;
- St Kilda receives Carlisle and pick No.14 and gives up pick No.5 and pick No.24;
- Sydney Swans receive picks No.23 and pick No.44, and gives up pick No.14 and Bird.
The context of it is in the link below but it’s an interesting example where we felt like we got him for pick 5 (after they said they wouldn’t trade it etc) and they feel like they got him for a first round pick downgrade (after saying they wouldn’t trade 5 unless they stayed in the first round).
Sydney’s part in it is more unusual, but their manoeuvring netted them Callum Mills so they’re not unhappy either.
Carlisle becomes a Saint, Dons get another top pick, Bird leaves Swans
Dons land prized pick in return for big man, with Swans also involvedm.afl.com.au
It would be interesting if something like that happened again for Hill, where you guys get pick 5 and a third party makes it a bit more palatable for St Kilda.
I think the Sydney of this deal will be the WB.

Particularly if it ends up being pick 7, it seems like a pretty simple straight swap.
