New leadership group

I think the way you see sheeze behave towards his peers when he was getting so much fanfair during last year is what easily gets him friends and trust. I remember how he just kept pumping George whenever he was being crowed over by the media - that kind of natural behaviour off field combined with results and standards on field is what get you into leadership immediately (as is the case).

When Dangles took over in 93 he said Carey you're Captain. That's it. This current set up in onfield leadership comes across as being contrived. Having Co-Captains indicates we can't decide which hand to wipe our arse with. Do we have Co-Presidents? No. Do we have Co-Senior Coaches? No. It's a nonsense. s**t, Lukey Mac should've been dropped last season and he is still a Captain? Please give me a spell. :stern look

These results are not what I expected from my observations when watching training 3 times a year so I am really angry at everyone involved.
Agree with that but leadership doesn't start and finish off field.

Virtually everyone on BF would have no idea what off field leadership looks like at the Club because none of us are in the inner sanctum.

But we can use our eyes on gameday to form reasonable assessments of what on field leadership looks like.

Talking your head off or tapping blokes on the bum when they've mucked up doesn't come remotely close to what's needed from leaders on field - and that is to impact games and the opposition.

There's a couple of blokes who fall woefully short on that front.

That's the benefit of a group vote. If he's not happy, he needs to look no further then inwards.

Pretty common knowledge that his leadership/off-field stuff has and continues to be a gap for him. He was in the group that stuck behind which shows he is recognised by some, but clearly has a bit of work to do if he wants to make the group.
right but he's our best player and his coming off contract soon... reckon leading by example and in performance is just as important as being vocal/touching everyone's backsides. not every leader needs to be an outstanding speaker or presence around the players, some of them do definitely but I think the risk with letting the players choose is that you end up with situations like this.
Him and zurhaar I’m surprised aren’t there

Zurhaar is very vocal apparently on track and gets morale up
Zurhaar is also coming off contract soon as well. Don't mind some of the appointees being player elected but think the coaches should have a choice of one or two so we don't end up with this scenario.

I don’t think contract status should weigh into leadership personally. If anything, it should be rewarding those like Larkey, Jy and LMac who have committed to the club long term…

Maybe if those players also voted for their captain, we would have won more than two flags.

Your argument is baselsss.

After hearing about this leadership team all I can say to the supporters hold on tight for more pain with McDonald back as Co Captain.
I just hope Clarkson Viney and others at the club will act as expected I believe McDonald will continue to go backwards and just hope their have the guts to drop him.
This is why we need to more Ruthless as a club and until that day happens we arnt going anywhere.

Why are you like this?

I can't think of a player that combines both talent and application like LDU does yet he's not in the top 6 leaders at the Club.

You straw poll the other 17 Clubs - and he'd be rated our best player.

I reckon we've missed a trick - he seems the type who'd lift with the extra pressure of captaincy.

The added bonus is that he impacts games.

The only rational explanation is that he doesn't want it.
I dont know. I think LDU is rather reserved and is probably still going through grief and loss. I dont know if thats what he wants, he seems to be the type to say to team mates “nahhh, dont want it but i’ll be around and put in” .. LDU is probably trying to be a leader within himself. He will be a great leader one day. I can totally understand why the votes are where they’re at. He doesn’t want it

I've made my opinions clear regarding the co-captaincy and my preference for Larkey to become the sole captain of the side but how remarkable is it to see Sheezel part of the leadership group? That just shows you how elite his standards are and how driven he is to reach his absolute best and bring everyone else with him!

Really looking forward to 2024.

I couldn’t care less about what LDU is doing, and whether or not he is a leader, he just needs to be a brownlow level player which is more than enough expectation on him.

I’m shocked that there isn’t enough uproar that LMac is captain again for a second year and the team, viney and Clarkson signed off on it.

Uproar?

On here?

We’d rather lose it over Players not being able to drive out to Bundoora whilst zero cares about Members being ripped off with over charging or Autorenewgate

Please!

I don't think the argument that players shouldn't exclusively select the leadership group is flawed. For starters players might be popular but not necessarily amazing leaders or deserving of the accolade.
Hence why Leading Teams (literally a company that specialise in leadership), Clarkson, the coaches, Viney, Watt and the Board are the Governance overlay. Viney actually refers to it being taken to the board before being signed off.

If they thought it was the wrong call, they’d override it.

The argument that it is purely player vote is flawed.

Im old school when it comes to leadership.

LOL. Claims argument is baseless and then proceeds with the hypothetical nonsense. I’ll give you “Maybe”. :stern look

Happy with Bails and Harry being promoted. Both consistently perform well. Would have LDU>Corr though

whos wearing the mask next to Lmac?
I think Eddie Ford got a bit of sun on the GC? Same hairstyle, squints when he's concentrating. Just a lot more tan.

That's my best guess with a quick glance.

Can't say the Leading Teams bloke left me feeling anything memorable or motivating. I know, I know, it's a 2 minute edited package and I'm not in the room etc. It's just my vibe/Mabo.

Referring to voting for the bloke you trust the most? Maybe the meaning of that was lost in the editing?

Sheez will be C in 2-3 seasons.

What if like McKay he’s coming off contract and playing average. I don’t like this system.

Reckon Souva will get it next.
I was laughing at these sort of comments 18 months ago, but have been so impressed with him, particularly since he re-signed & I’ve been observing a bit more closely.
He’s a Shinboner, talks like a motivated/hungry young leader, says the right things to the media when he’s in front of them, seems to have the playing group very much on side, is funny & charming, is now an AA forward with runs (goals) on the board & only going to get better (in theory) with a better team around him & better delivery.
I’m actually now firmly in the camp that he should be our next captain.
*happy to stick with any for now, but I think Larkey holds up the next cup.

Player's obviously rate him as a leader but that doesn't mean he's undroppable the match committee decide that.
were you in a coma this season?

There were several games where Luke should not have been selected on form or output. He was selected because of the C next to his name. Which is not right.
