VFL Round 11 Collingwood v Gold Coast @ AIA Centre. 11:05am.

If you were disappointed today with games from Murley in his first year and macrae in his second I can’t help you. Even bianco played well today.

It's ok, I am absolutely sure I don't need your help.

If you think any of those three is going to make it on form this year, then you're definitely seeing the leaky glass as half full through your rose coloured glasses; but hey, hope you are right!

I think they are all absolute long shots right now, that's not writing them off yet, its just being something of a realist.

Fair cop, I guess what disappoints me most is it's been the VFL-listed lads that have really shown a lot more than most of our draft kids.
This is a far more reasonable point. I'm not going to lie and say I'm ecstatic with any of our younger players progress in the vfl this year (save for henry when he was in there and maybe johnson) but i think most if not all of them have shown some good signs, and had good games, quarters or halves. We have to remember that our new game plan is more about effeciency than sheer numbers, and so winning football (which they've done a good share of) is as good a measure as any. There definitelty have been some games where the vfl players have been among the best, but in the vfl it's generally good management to have good vfl players.

He’s streets ahead of how he played in the Academy side against us in the VFL a few weeks ago.

he played for us, against the Academy. and i thought showed a bit. I was hoping we'd take him in the rookie draft but i understand how valuable list spots are. He might not come so cheap later in the year though

kelly has to play the percentages as a defender, escort it over the line, no Hollywood hand passes. Ruscoe just gave up after wrong footed, not the best look
I think Ruscoe's mum was onto something when she expressed great surprise when her son made the senior side.

I thought you might have liked macrae today. He was def more prominent for longer 👍
Feel like he's more likely, after watching today. As his endurance grows, I think he'll get a fair bit of it on the spread and use it well. Inside game is the area he really needs to focus on.

The suns were too big. too strong in the end.

Chuggy played a quarter/half then was sent off to the MCG to be the carry over.
Macrae slowly improving his consistency. And with that confidence will build
Murley improving all the time
Bianco was good as well.

Loved the work of Wetering.

Saw Carmichael at the quarter time break in the huddle with some of the boys. Seems to already get along well with them

Really good to see the performance of Will Kelly in this game. Hopefully he can stay fit, and get a good run at it, as l think Kelly is a talented young footballer that has something to offer at AFL level.
Similar to what we are now seeing from Murphy at AFL level, with a good injury free run.

I’ve been very critical of Kelly but first game back he did take some nice marks, and didn’t have to many “brain fades”. I’ll give him that. Bianco played a good game as well. Need a lot more of that though.

Haven’t seen this one so McMahon or Kelly v Burgess? I was warming to McMahon’s improvement around ANZAC day, but I feel like the byes came at a bad time and he lost some momentum. Kelly’s return looks impressive on the stat sheet, but ultimately whoever spent the bulk of the day on Burgess struggled…

Disagree I assume you haven’t seen them play live

Was often the VFL listers on Burgess. They had some very big boys up forward

Only saw it on a stream, so cant help you on who played on Burgess, I find it very hard to determine these things on the TV let alone the ipad but my take on our two young KPD:

McMahon - if you are looking for a slippery evasive Half back flanker, who finds the footy and uses it well, McMahan may be your guy. There was one bit of play where he weaved in and out of traffic which looked genuinely elite. If OTOH you were interested in a key position player, who is a one on one beast, and takes big contested marks, then look elsewhere. McMahon is playing much better this year than last, but playing like he is 178 cm rather than 198 cm. The frustrating thing is, we know he has a big leap and nice soft hands, and he just isnt using that weapon down back

Kelly - I think its the best he has played all year. IVe always liked his mobility and his kicking skills are very good, but this is the first game this year where he started to clunk some really nice marks. Whats lacking in Will's game at the moment is physicality, authority, mongrel - he is still a bit skinny and is too nice. He needs to hit the weight room and get hold of a highlights package of his old mans greatest hits

The other massive issue is slow indecisive decision making with the ball - it's way too slow at VFL, let alone AFL.

For mine he’s almost a tall winger or HFF
I like him leading up at the ball

Seems our talls need injuries to improve their games. Kreuger and Johnson will come back rippers.

No love for Toby Murray (75)?
Thought he competed well and was very mobile.
Looked more likely than Kelly or McMahon to me.

Disappointing if true because we have no additional rights to draft him.

Only Bianco from our AFL listed got a vote.

Collingwood 15.7 (97) lost to Gold Coast 18.9 (117)
