You can bow down and kiss Kenny's feet, and then yell at the top of your lungs - Sir Kenneth my Hinkley - you are greatness!

lol imagine if he was any good.

the friction you’d generate would make everyday an extreme fire risk.

Hmm. Do we label everyone at the PAFC as a failure every year we don't win a premiership? A bit rich for mine.
Are we going to win the premiership every year in this day and age in an 18 team comp? Of course not, it's impossible. So not winning the premiership doesn't mean "failure".
But, not working towards winning a premiership is a failure.
One thing is for sure.. we're always working towards the ultimate goal, and we're the closest we've been to that goal since the early 2000's, imo.
Edit: I also understand the simple concept of not winning the premiership = fail. But...

dazalar has just kicked a huge goal on the run. Its as clear as the sky here at the bay of fires, after 2 inches of rain. We are the closest we have been since..... this has been an enormous triumph to get to this position in the big league. Get behind the coaches, the club and enjoy.

Some reasonable points, but in your opinion why shouldn't Hinkley be considered a failure? Why is one losing final in the last 5 years good enough to keep backing him in?

10th?

It's not like we're Geelong and we're always up there contending, just never quite getting the chocolates.

It's not even like we're the Crows and sort of jump from 4th to 8th to 2nd to 11th and then back to 6th, contending every now and then but not reliably.

We've missed the finals 9 of the past 12 years. We're a mediocre, also ran club ala St Kilda or Fremantle. We make up the numbers. And that's the mentality that pervades the club and increasingly some sections of the supporter base. If we as supporters let our standards drop any further, the club's only competitive advantage (its tradition of success) risks being lost forever. And if that happens, good luck seeing another premiership in any of our lifetimes.

The AFL's catchphrase is "Don't believe in never", but it feels like finishing 4th is almost impossible and finishing in the 5-8th area is our mountain top.

I feel sorry for you kids at sportsday when they come anything but first.

Manaconda - son, I know you did your best, but you came 2nd... you're a bloody failure.

Are his kids being paid $800,000.00 a year to compete at Sports Day?

Lol we've had as many appearances as Carlton. FML.

What does a world class AFL midfield look like?

It's players who keep their feet in the contest so they can get to the next one.

It's players running hard to the next zone to provide an option for their teammate with the ball instead of hanging out the back for the easy possession.

It's players who defend and attack as a unit, knowing that neither the forward line nor the defence can do their job without their help. That means putting pressure on the opposition when they are delivering the ball, and putting the ball to the advantage of the forwards when we have it.

It's the ability to execute with speed - not just in the mechanics of field play (whether it be through pace or ball movement), but in thought as well. Being able to analyse and assess danger and options instinctively, so it becomes second nature.

It's players putting on blocks and shepherds for the ball carrier to allow him to dispose of the ball without fear of reprisal from the opposition, having the faith in their teammate to put the ball where it needs to be.

It's having the ability to know when to tackle, when to bump and when to corral - which depends on how much support there is.

It's players staying in their lane rather than ball watching, knowing that if they perform their role for the team, the possessions will flow automatically.

The Crows have taken our now customary 10th position. It's funny, it feels like they've been significantly better than us over the last decade, but going on that ladder, whether you are 10th or 13th, it's still s**t.

lol, old mate still blaming the players for Hinkley's inability to be an effective coach.

You’re interested in assigning blame.

I’m interested in winning a premiership and what it takes to get there. Nothing else matters.

I think theres a section of Port supporters that are just content to have made it to the AFL

I cant think of any other reason why they are happy with us being s**t every year

It’s genuinely baffling. Like, at a complete loss agogery.

The club has never been better resourced, ever, and the rank’n’file is utterly enamoured with a bloke whose coaching highwater mark matches that of guys who’ve long since disappeared into the coaching ether: Neil Craig, Chris Connolly, Danny Frawley, Terry Wallace, Peter Schwab & Dean Laidley; let alone the blokes who went one step further: Neale Daniher, Gary Ayres, Rodney Eade, Don Pyke, Ross Lyon.

Incredible.

Incredible.
