Yeah right.
I must admit...I'm a bit over the "even comp" calls. But don't be comparing our side to the one that Brisbane had in the early 2000's.
When you have a team like that you can say whatever tf you want and it doesn't matter.

I'm not comparing Port to Brisbane. What I am saying is Matthews never gave his teams easy outs. He was the most brutally competitive of players and that transcended into his coaching. He took grand final punchline Collingwood to a flag. Brisbane, who took Brisbane seriously?

That Brisbane team was pulled together in a non football state and could easily have drifted apart or lived the high life off talent alone and achieved nothing. Look at GC and GWS. Don't underestimate what Matthews did to build a superpower.

Have you noticed how often we look beaten from the outset of games? That is mindset and that is Hinkley's responsibility as coach. He has to get them to believe in themselves. That was Matthews' strength. That was Cahill's and Fos's strength.

I have stated before, I want this team and coach to have arrogance, swagger, and be competitive beats.

I wanted Ken to stand up yesterday and say "We blew it. We played horribly. I take a large part of the responsibility for poor preparation, but I do not excuse the slack efforts of many of the playing group. It is unacceptable, and they, and I, will be held to account. We will improve - we have to. We will go out next week and we expect to win. Expect, demand and do everything in our power to win. We will be ruthless, and keep improving until we are the best. I don't care how good the opposition is. We will beat them all if we come to play every week. It is the Port Adelaide expectation. Those who don't want that, can leave via the side door, from the President down to the toilet cleaner".

End of rant.

As all gamblers do about the luck going_against _them.

Very telling isn't it. He's desperate.

Please Alan Richardson. Deliver us from weevil next weekend
The problem is that he really can't see the problem. He knows we have the talent and (under a good coach and game plan) we can win confidently and regularly. But the simpleton can't actually see that it is him, his selections and his gameplan. He just thinks we can't keep losing forever, our luck will have to turn eventually. As he spends all of the club's funds and eventually gets sacked then we are in a worse position than before because supporters may not renew again with the feeling of being trapped in a hopeless mismanaged cycle of s**t. I mean how many re-births can you have?

This is the part that burns me the most. We have done this contract re-sign kneejerk stuff before and it ended badly. Why haven't we got some sort of checks and balances system to prevent this devastating type of financial mismanagement from ever happening again?
KKK can argue they weren't involved with the club last time it happened but why are they allowed to make these kind of long term OTT decisions - we went far too early we just needed to wait and we would have been ok.
Why is it that us 'outsiders that can't see everything' could see this shitstorm brewing for a long time before it happened and yet IT STILL HAPPENED. Why? Why? Why?

Feed him to the dogs (ah the good old days ).

Like it or not, we have two and a half years of Hinkley. I just hope something positive happens in that time to give Boak a premiership.

one and a half years i believe we can sack ken end of 2020 and no 2021 payout. So unless ken can pull a miracle next year will be his last year.

And don’t forget, we are paying him a s**t load and we have no money. Can’t even afford to speculate on a mid season draft pick because we have no money. If we didn’t pay him so much, we could afford a few better players.

That's not how it works at all.

Brad Scott said that his departure from the club was planned over the course of several weeks.
If this is the case it would be a while before we get any kind of response regarding Ken, or even if we get a response
The problem is that Koch has a sense of arrogance to him, and he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would be willing to admit he was wrong.
If Koch wants to stay he will need to make changes and give up his "ten-year coach plan" but if he's going to have a piss fit and continue to justify his decisions then I really think he should go.

You do know that is not how it works right?

What did Leigh say at the beginning of 2006? If it bleeds we're fooked?

Before the Lions had established themselves as a super power and were confronting the Essendon powerhouse, what you heard from Matthews was If it bleeds we can kill it.

None of this Oh anyone can win on their day, every team is so good, there are no easy games.

Matthews was the supreme competitor, he did not believe in conceding defeat at any time. We have our excuses ready even before the game starts. And we play accordingly.
The straw that broke the camel's back for me was that presser after the tigers game...

"We've got a long way to go before we're anything like the Richmond Football Club".

The same club we tore to shreds in the 2014 EF!

Yeah but do you trust that will happen? Ken has shown he doesn't require a miracle to gain an extension. Just mediocrity.

What Ken meant to say is that we've got a long way to go before we're anything like the Port Adelaide Football Club.

We saw it against, oh I don’t know, the reigning premiers in Perth?

The problem is that these players aren’t experienced enough and confident enough to play like that against a side that will punish every mistake. Every time they **** up, they go back into their shell.

People are always looking for someone to blame these days because we have a fast food culture that demands instant gratification. You’re looking at a side that had the following:

No experience

1st game - Ladhams
3rd game - Frampton
8th game - Farrell
9th game - Butters
10th game - Duursma
10th game - Rozee
11th game - Lienert

Limited experience

38th game - Howard
48th game - Powell-Pepper
48th game - Amon
49th game - Houston

Experience but inconsistent

70th game - Clurey
74th game - Byrne-Jones
84th game - S. Gray

So five of our defenders haven’t even played 100 games yet.

Add to that Broadbent, who like everyone in history took two games to get up to speed, and you start to realise why Robbie Gray and Jonas looked off the pace in their first game back after a couple of weeks. They’ll be better next week once they find the speed of the game again.

And what do we have this week? Another injury to an experienced player in Rockliff. So expect him to go through the same two week period to get up to speed when he gets back. Ditto Hartlett, Dixon, Wines, Ebert and Burton. Add Watts to that if he manages to get back.

We are going through now what we need to. There’s no cheat code to gain experience. All the coaching staff can do is keep encouraging them to take the game on.

The difference between the two teams was a 3 time premiership player in Jack Gunston. That’s the benefit of experience.
Janus, I am certain one of those who pays lots of attention on what you post around here. I want the same as you do, and I would love that it could happen with this team, during the current administration. I am just doubting that it will happen.

I have asked how many times we have played like Hinkley wants us to play, and your answer was "one". I know you haven't paid attention to my post because I know we have played really well more than once. The question was supposed to show that we don't do it enough. In that, your reply was fine.

You cannot answer my questions with only 2019 in mind. This is Year 6. Last year has happened. 2017 has happened. 2016 has happened, and so on. That's where the other questions come in. When enough is enough?

Perhaps, we have been playing par for the course. Am I being too demanding, then? You haven't answer that. I asked you, because your answers matter to me. Could you answer my questions directly? I would appreciate that.

Thanks.

We couldn’t sack him at the end of 2015 because that was our first “bad” year of his tenure and we’d made finals 2/3 years.

We couldn’t sack him at the end of 2016 because it was a write-off from the beginning with WADA and then a high injury-toll.

But the end of 2017 would have been perfect to part ways. He accepts a new job at Gold Coast while we start fresh with someone else. But instead we make one of the most baffling, unjustified decisions in history, one that could potentially set the club back years!

Year 7 actually.

The biggest problem is that there is no pressure on us to perform from the media or anyone in the industry in general because we are seen as a small club with less resources who should be happy to compete, win our 10-12 games every year, and play finals once every 4 or 5 years. You can see this with the praise for Brad Scott, a guy who has never achieved anything but mediocrity but because he coached at a small club, just being a 50-50 team is considered a success. And unfortunately for us, our administration increasingly buys into this narrative. The Glenelg mentality is upon us.

My trust in the club is very low that is why i think we are wasting our time on this thread as i dont think ken will get sacked this year he will be coach next year but i think end of next year the board will make a move since it wont require a payout. Think about it ken potentially will miss finals 5 out of 6 years before he gets the axe! This extention at the end of 2017 is a complete balls up koch and kt will need to go end of 2020 too
