To backtrack a few pages, yes we completely ****ed up the development of Brander, and we're heading the same way with Allen (FWIW this is my gripe now with all things WCE, Allen is my great hope to be elite).

Blake schenslog should be a consideration if we lose brander .
He has put together a great season for south playing both KPD and KPF .
At 199cm we could also use him as a back up ruck

**** if he was one cm taller he could be FF

He’s being talked about as potentially going quite early, but since he’s previously been on Geelong’s list and is quite close with Kelly (I believe Kelly got him across to Souths), I wonder if we could convince him not to nominate and then sign him as an SSP rookie?

(Unless they’ve closed that loophole?)

Brander was recruited as talk forward or defender. His has proven to be incapable of either and the club has been patient trying to develop his game on the wing. He has a long list of shortcomings previously listed here, none of which he looks to have addressed himself in any way. Life is like that once you leave school.
Allen is a great prospect but is yet to show the forward instincts that will make him an elite forward. He has been given games early is a few roles, thankfully he appears mature enough to know what is required. Has he in innate talent to be 'elite' - time will tell

No he hasn’t.

Just because he’s been behind other, very settled players in the pecking order in those positions and trained up for a different role, doesn’t mean he’s been “proven incapable” as a key position player.

For Christ sake, some people are far too keen to write off youngsters if they’re not instantly a roaring success.

a dud in Defence in the WAFL - I have seen him play as a key forward at AFL level - I was embarrassed for him.

His weaknesses include - avoidance of physical contact not good for a Barrass or Darling type, clumsy in traffic and kicking that is sub par .
Apart from that he tease the game apart. Give him another five years to flop around on the wing not being defensive, not being attacking.

Oh, and he is a poor overhead mark. Not flash as a forward

The mear fact that a team of well paid experts that watch his every move play Waterman up forward and never Brander is a signal from above. And Waterman isn't AFL standard.

he hasn’t proven any capability to play key position in the WAFL so it is a more than reasonable assertion that he won’t at AFL, albeit he has had limited appearances in this position at this level. This is due to forward nous, contested marking, contested play, physicality, goal kicking amongst other required traits. Barn door obvious that these are his weaknesses.

Once again you’ve gone personal snd attacked the poster, and not provided substance in refuting ziads comments or provided anything meaningful to the the discussion. I’m not sure the internet equivalent of an oxygen thief, but stop playing the man and stick to evidence

Wasnt that when he was on debut? As I said

It sounds like you’ve put him in the same basket as Waterman - ie he’s been written off and nothing he could ever do would make a lick of difference to your opinion.

From watching brander in the wafl this season when he has gone back he has looked terrible. Zane sumich is closer to being a key defender than brander .

Brander doesn't put body on his opponent and when he is in a better position he is pushed aside way too easily .

Do you see the irony in complaining about me going personal, then calling me an oxygen thief?

I doubt it somehow.

Don't you have to nominate for the draft and miss out to be eligible?

Maybe now. When they first brought the rule in, players who’d previously been delisted didn’t have to nominate so we got Brooksby to withdraw his nomination. I’m not sure whether that’s now changed.

calm the farm. Again if you can’t cut it at key position in the WAFL due to physical, strength and performance limitations, it’s not happening at the highest level

I know our track record is good with interstate draftees putting down roots in WA (Braun, Butler, Waters, Hurn, Shuey et al) but I think there has been a bit of a generational shift in terms of specifically Melbourne-raised players being the ones most afflicted with “homesickness” in more recent years.

Recent Covid issues aside Melbourne is a great city to live in; particularly if you’re a young professional footballer earning good coin. It’s why it’s so hard to pry WA lads back home once they get settled at a Victorian club after being drafted. So I can understand why kids that are born and raised there are reticent to move to Perth in particular on the other side of the continent.

I just think in the 2020s and with millennial draftees the Vic Metro boys pose far more of a flight risk than Vic Country or SA draftees.
I think it is a myth that it is the city on it's own that anchors them there. I think a lot of it also has to do with family (in terms of Vic Metro kids) and the large footy industry for the others. With 9 clubs in one place, if you want to change clubs it is far easier to just stay where you are once you've laid down roots and there are a lot more opportunities to earn cash on the side through the footy industry (media interviews, sports nights etc). Free Agency is much more advantageous to Victorian Teams for these reasons.

you have a personal dislike for ziad, let it go

perhaps objectively state what qualities lead brander to being a dominant KPF? And don’t say because he was highly rated at 16 or drafted in the first round

how do you have exploratory surgery on soft tissue??
If I remember correctly Melbourne sent Harley bennell to Germany to a specialist and found his nerve was being effected by scar tissue in his calf . This causing him to have calf spasms leading to calf injuries.

He wasted all that time at freo trying to get back on the park but the unknown nerve issue kept him sidelined .

When someone says exploratory soft tissue surgery I think of this

and was he any better for the surgery? Scratched a few games together after more recurrences. That’s pretty much exploratory surgery

Yep pretty sure he played a few games for Melbourne after getting through preseason.
Freo really did waste bennell .
Just like they have done with Joel hamling .
People say our medicos are bad

then more exploratory surgery in Australia.

and some more 1629797530484.jpeg

Bottom line your career is going the wrong way if you’re having exploratory surgery
