That game should have started alarm bells ringing. The way the Dogs ran over us at the start of the last quarter set the template for other teams for the season: just wait until the Eagles feel they have done enough OR are tired, then out run them.

We were poor all day though in that Dogs game at Optus

Only thing that kept us in that game was the Bulldogs poor kicking (Dogs had kicked 7.15 to three quarter time to our 5.6)

When the Dogs started kicking straight they just completely put us away

Same as the Saints game

Point was that we really should've won that Dogs game (you'd expect an experienced fwd to kick that goal 100/100 times)....so things didn't look that bad early on.

2 weeks later the 2nd half of the Saints game was when my alarm bells started going off
Our form up to the Power game was pretty good.

But yeah, the complete surrender to the Saints onslaught was a sign of things to come unfortunately.

I actually thought that game might kickstart our season (obviously it went 180 degrees the other way).

Had multiple opportunities to win it, really only lost due to skill execution x2 (Cripps, then Cole kicking it to the defenders advantage in a 3 v 1 - which rebounded down to the Bont sealer)

The team should have walked away from that filthy that they lost, but with belief that they could beat anyone, anywhere, anytime (excluding Geelong and Sydney at the SCG of course...). But they seemed to go the other way of moping about things not going right, and when they don't go right deciding not to put in (see Saints game, then many others thereafter).

And all because Cripps kicked into the man on the mark.

I had forgotten about the Cats and Sydney games and just how low we really dropped at points - including the Saints game. Some of the worst losses in years this season.

We were beaten by the wooden spooners at home.

Let that sink in.
That's one I keep forgetting about. I was there, it was stormy and a shithouse Monday fixture. This Board had already gone fully negative, so I had already considered a loss as a possibility. Instead of getting angry, I just walked away knowing our season was cooked.

Sadly that was actually an improved performance over the previous two weeks

Bringing this back to the List Management/Draft.

I think our best recruits will be the Assistant coaches.
Getting some genuine mid coaches is going to hopefully be huge not just to get the best out of yeo/shuey/kelly etc, but to help speed the development of guys like Ledwards, Trew, XON and whoever we hopefully recruit this year.

The Saints game was my first game back after 18 months of not being able to attend a footy game, it was all going so well...

My last game before that was the 2019 semi final loss to the Cats.
