Grundy presence was enormous. There were times where the ball fell out of the contest into what would normally be a hole that you just know the oppo would pounce on, instead we saw Grundy making 2-3 ground level efforts allowing our mids to actually come into play rather than chasing tail.I think the best aspect of the win was the turnaround in contested footy from last year against one of the best contested sides. More inside 50s and more clearances made me feel like when the heat was on in the second half we just overwhelmed them. Looked like a lot of the close in handball work has improved and Grundy's physical presence made a massive difference. Instead of being overrun in the last quarter we did the opposite.
Heeney, Grundy and Blakey best for mine. Melican and Macartin both solid down back.
Feels like a better balance with our sharp kicking game and a strong contested game.

It was more than 40k, I base this off the queue for a beer being horrendous.crowd looked bit patchy for 40k on the tv
My only knock on Grundy, he was a little careless with the ball sometimes. Quite a few errant handballs out of contests, but hopefully that disappears once he builds more chemistry with his new teammates
Is it OK to say I predicted that Heeney would go to the midfield and that with him and Grundy our mids would match the Dees? Heeney and Grundy 33 contested possessions and a dozen clearances between them.
... OK, I won't go there then.
But Heeney, Grundy and Blakey were awesome. Warner was back to his best in the last quarter.
It was kind of a classic Swans performance, unlike 2023, a big hard midfield winning the hard ball and grinding the opposition into the dirt.
I think the conditions and the well-drilled Melbourne defence counted against the three pillars up forward tonight. You have to love McLean's efforts though. Full of heart.
Wasn't the night for tall forwards. Very slippery due to humidity. We were the better side & if we had kicked well in the third we would have put the game to bedHeeney was just BOG by a mile.
Grundy worth the price and more turned the game in the 3rd, Wicks thankgod we didnt wait to long to sub him in.
Papley was lively, Warner hailmary from 60 eventually payed off but still would like to see him know his limitations.
Blakey very good overall our defence was solid without to much fuss.
Forward line did not work till we subbed a tall out for Wicks so going forward i dont know how Amartey, Logan and McLean will work efficiently.
Robbie Fox was nowhere near our best but being at the ground helped me see how hard he was working as the high half forward runner type that bedford accurately forecasted he would be. His running is quite something to watch live. A couple of shots at goal and some quality tackles made it a good first game in the role for a guy I’ve always been very fond of. Wholehearted and tireless worker of a player that every club needs.
Jmacs hardness at the ball must be something else. You never want to see players go off hurt, but he's got 2 now that he appears to have taken out with significant shoulder injuries. Again not parading players getting hurt, but that's 2 people that have come off severely second best in one on one contests with him
