Wicks should've been in the team anyway. Not only was he very good in the last practice match (BOG for mine), but his pressure was always going to be needed, particularly in conditions like this game threw up. Probably the lone coaching error on the night, and even that was corrected. With Fox acting as a spoiler in F50, bringing the ball down (didn't seem to matter how many defenders he was up against), and Hayward closer to goal, I would hope we consider the 2 KPF structure for any games where the oppo and conditions suit.
It comes with risks if one of them or Grundy goes down, especially McLean as backup ruck. Though we do have Blakey and Heeney as options (particularly when we get players back from injury).
But I wondered how well Wicks, Fox and Hayward could do if given a full game in that structure. Something to be said for Wicks as fresh legs, oppo fatigue sure, but you'd then have someone like Sheldrick to come on and provide some buzz.
Between presaeson and last night Amartey hasn't done anything to keep his spot in the team. With Fox acting as a spoiler in F50, bringing the ball down (didn't seem to matter how many defenders he was up against), and Hayward closer to goal, I would hope we consider the 2 KPF structure for any games where the oppo and conditions suit.

Yeah I (jokingly) offered Horse a lift to the airport pre-game.Wicks should've been in the team anyway. I wasn't sure of him up forward but his rundown tackle was great and putting Lever out of the game was very important given the conditionsYeah I (jokingly) offered Horse a lift to the airport pre-game.
That said I also bemoaned Fox up forward pre-game, and last night was the clearest example he can transfer his defensive game to the F50 and be an absolute asset up there. The patches we'd seen previously made me think he was being misused, but maybe a pre season focusing on it has done the trick. Bit of extra goalkicking practice won't hurt though.
Love Foxy, yep, every team needs someone like him. With his heart and elite running/stamina he can nullify the games most damaging defenders.Robbie Fox was nowhere near our best but being at the ground helped me see how hard he was working as the high half forward runner type that bedford accurately forecasted he would be. His running is quite something to watch live. A couple of shots at goal and some quality tackles made it a good first game in the role for a guy I’ve always been very fond of. Wholehearted and tireless worker of a player that every club needs.

He is definitely being wasted spending so much time forward. But you know once Parker and Adams come back in over the coming weeks it'll be back to same ol'. He's so dynamic in the middle, I wish Horse found ways to play him there more.

I'm not going to pretend he's not a good player because he is. But jeez is frustrating watching a bloke who looks like he sleeps with a security blanket carve us up.

McDonald, McLean, Hayward, Fox and Wicks looked very effective. Sharp, heaps of pressure. Don't forget that Fox came to us as a forward and switched back so he's not out of place. Add Papley (he was resting most of that last quarter) and Amartey (rotating with McDonald and McLean) and that's a pretty good forward line. With Fox acting as a spoiler in F50, bringing the ball down (didn't seem to matter how many defenders he was up against), and Hayward closer to goal, I would hope we consider the 2 KPF structure for any games where the oppo and conditions suit.

Whoa now, that's a big call. I wouldn't go that far this early, need to see how we go against the premiers next week first I think.Watching that trio of Grundy, Heeney & Rowbottom in action last night was the most "oh s**t, we're on here" I've felt watching a Swans midfield since JPK, Hanners & Parker were at the peak of their powers 2014-16.
Definitely, but a little earlier. Two or three times a year, not every game.Love the willingness to try new things. If it doesn't work or wears off then who cares. Atleast we're providing fan engagement. It looks like the club & players have opened up a lot more this year.
Do it when conditions suit. I think it could take off, especially with families & kids.
We can't play 3 talls in the forward line, KC. Not with the overall lack of experience they have, the conditions weren't a good night for it I'll admit, but they just ran into each other all ruddy night.McDonald, McLean, Hayward, Fox and Wicks looked very effective. Don't let's write Amartey off just yet. Don't rest Grundy forward, only on the bench, and give McLean solid minutes in the ruck. He did well last night. It will evolve.
Not comparing them. Just saying that last night I had that same feeling that I used to get from that famed group.Whoa now, that's a big call. I wouldn't go that far this early, need to see how we go against the premiers next week first I think.
For Opening Round our cheer squad looked to Round 18, 2004 where we once came up against a strong Brisbane outfit - Heritage Round. Led by senior coach Paul Roos the Swans orchestrated an incredible 32-point victory against the Lions.
