Not seeing what the big deal is with King. He is a luxury. Gold campaigners ring him up and offer him massive sheets to stave of some of the media heat, he talks to his family and manager and they advise him (wisely) to secure the bag, if it turns out that he wants to leave before 2022, he is still able to do that. If he doesn't, no biggy. His better rated clone brother is already a saints player. People were getting a bit too much wood about the situation due to the reunion angle. The midfield is still ordinary and he's not a midfielder.

What will actually win games next year is securing blokes like Hill and Howard, also Jones, and Butler, who is underrated. I don't think Colin Young will allow the trade to fall apart. Probably will end up in mediation, and hopefully he is forked over for his real value here, which is 12, and and pick in the 20s. Just wait until wednesday and it will have all been sorted. Do not want Acres involved whatsoever, he would be treated as steak knives, which means it would be more worthwhile to keep him and give him a fair run at it under Ratten. The shape of the list and the way the next two drafts seem to be lining up means we can use picks to move the list forward, instead of chopping players for other players, which won't raise its quality as much. If the club is going to be make a flag tilt in the next few years, the core of that team will already be on the list in 2020. Get those trades done and we're away

Carlton was approached to consider a shock trade for Port Adelaide skipper Ollie Wines
In one of the biggest shocks of the trade period, Carlton was asked to weigh up making a play for Port Adelaide co-captain Ollie Wines, by the player’s own camp.

Carlton was approached to consider a shock trade for Ollie Wines.
In a surprising development, the Herald Sun has confirmed the Blues were asked to weigh up making a play for the Port Adelaide co-captain.
But despite how appealing a Patrick Cripps-Ollie Wines engine room might look, Carlton is not considering it as an option in this trade period.

The Blues are conscious of their need for speed and instead remain committed to trade targets Tom Papley, Jack Martin and Eddie Betts.
Sources familiar with the left-field approach — which came around two weeks ago — said it came from the Wines camp, rather than the Power.
Port officials have this year repeatedly denied Wines was up for trade. He is contracted at Alberton until the end of 2022.

The strong-bodied onballer endured a difficult 2019 season, managing only 12 games. He dislocated a shoulder while water-skiing in the pre-season; broke a leg in round seven and then broke a thumb in round 17.
He was then overlooked at selection for an immediate AFL return after recovering from the thumb injury before coming in as a late inclusion.

Wines grew up in Echuca as a mad Carlton supporter. His great uncle Clinton Wines played 39 games for the Blues between 1945—1946, including the “Bloodbath” 1945 VFL premiership.

Port Adelaide football manager Chris Davies last month telling the Herald Sun: “Ollie isn’t asking for any of this to be spoken about, he hasn’t suggested he wants to go anywhere, we don’t want him to go anywhere.
“It isn’t anything anyone is considering so it should be shut down.”

But multiple sources confirmed an approach to the Blues was made.
Wines was made a co-captain at Port Adelaide with Tom Jonas in February, but despite still having another three years to run on his current deal, has been the subject of increasing speculation.
Wines, 25, has played 141 games for the Power since being taken at pick 7 in the 2012 national draft.
I hope we approach him.

We needed mids, in a way it's saving us from getting overly sentimental. He looks great but if he only ends up very good rather than elite, it puts our rebuild back a couple of years chasing what isn't a pressing need. Get mids, then some mids and then some more until we find some elite ones.

Been watching Acres. Happy to let him go. He cant hit the side of a barn. Extremely slow mind.

When he has time like a set shot goal hes fine BUT in play? omg undecided inefficient kicks.

Mind is a big part of sport. Gary Ablett jnr one of the greatest minds he is so quick as to why he sums up a situation in split second and delivers. Acres needs 20 seconds to think abiut things.
Can that change? dont think so

True, but the last 18 y.o on that money was destroyed by the expectations

At least up there no one puts any pressure on their players. Most fans of footy wouldn't be able to name a player on their list.

It’s not just 12 though is it. They want heaps more. The draft is uncertain but you can draft a fantastic young player with pick 12.

I’m not as enamoured with Hill as others. Each to their own.

I would have kept 6 and used it on Lachie Ash. Pace, run and delivery. Would have been a nice alternative.

We actually have seven players (probably 8 after trades) on our list whose best role is the third tall intercepting defender (rather than lock down defender).

Wilkie
Roberton
Battle
Carlisle
Austin
Joyce
Clavarino (at least at VFL level)
Howard (highly likely).

This is also probably the role that Ben King is most suited to for the next two season at least.

It looks like we will try to fashion Howard into a full back but we still have way too many intercepting defenders to fit into one side. I don’t thing bringing in B King would have improved our win/loss record at all next year.

So I don’t think it’s a bad thing for us that King has signed an extension at GC.

We need to start winning more games as of 2020, not 2022.
