Autopsy 8 point win vs North

North drop the ball anytime they are tackled, they tackled before we get the ball and they throw their heads back for frees.

Can tell
Clarko is the coach

Surprised a club with bugger all fans impacted the second umpire to run in a few times , well done

Think its pretty obvious who was poor today, (although I don't think the Rating system likes Cunners what in the world is that rating)

We would've lost that last year (did infact, Essendon and Port come to mind), wins when you don't play well are massive contextually for your season.
Looking at how many of our players barely touched the ball, you do wonder how we did pull that one off. Just some really efficient moments. Thought our goal accuracy was going to cost us a win after the last few weeks, and it still may at some point, but today found a way to kick straight when we really needed to and scrounged a win on the back of it.

Our efficiency is what did it we were 15.2 at one point which like only happens 1-2 times a season

Xerri won a lot of clearances tho i wasnt sure if that was on Grundy or McLean
He always does, I’ll take the clean HTAs that Grundy got today over Xerri’s hack kick clearances though.

I do because especially under Longmire it kept happening. The amount of times we got around 30 or 40 points up and took our foot off the oppositions neck was way too high and showed a lack of killer instinct in the Swans team as a whole.

I always ask myself "Is that what Geelong in 2007 would have done" and the answer is always no. They were ruthless, they didn't just want to win by 30 points, they wanted to win by 100 points every single game.
2007 Geelong won the vast majority of their games by 20-40 points.
Under Longmire-Cox we've seen 6 of our 20 largest wins in the club's existence.

"Lack of killer instinct" is a lazy narrative, last year's Bulldogs team destroyed teams once they got out to a 30-point lead - they missed finals.

From what I can see, the real reason that we've fallen short at the pointy end is far more systematic and begins with some of the list management decisions we've made since 2012.

It started with bringing in Tippett on big money, then famously Buddy Franklin. We've offered very lucrative contracts to retain some of our young players too. All it means is that we invest more of our cap to fewer players at the top so we've traded depth for top-end talent and it only takes a few injuries to key players to bring us right back to the pack.

The problem is when you are so reliant on a handful of individual stars, you get exposed by a more complete, balanced team and a grand final opponent is almost always that.

This year we started to address that with some ruthless decisions to offload Hayward and Florent who were probably on bigger deals than they warranted and brought in Serong and Rosas on the cheap as well as bringing in Grundy earlier. Jury will still be out whether Curnow acquisition was wise but at least he fills a need.

We look no worse than Brisbane did last night imo. This year is all about timing the run.

exactly ... geez, if this is a bad day in the context of the season, if we're in a flat spot, at least we're fighting to still win a game like that ... and from halftime i never really felt like we were losing control of it ...
and that's despite the fumbling and bumbling, and the dumbness and slackness ...
still not gonna be too hard on the defence, there hasn't been much stability for weeks
i thought edwards and wicks did well ... good will is like a big, raw kid but he's a presence and not overawed at all
and wicks seemed to be in the right place in several sticky moments

an improving team gave us a real challenge on their turf, and we hung in there and did enough, overcoming several (arguably self-imposed) obstacles to win a game we very definitely could have lost ...
yes, i'm trying to find positives ...
blakey continues to be outstanding, heeney is a class of his own, and sheldrick has moments where he really imposes himself ... and mcdonald and mclean took their chances

it's may, we're 8-1 ... we weren't a finals team today but we didn't have to be

Wardlaw / Sheezel / McKercher / LDU / O’Sullivan is going to be a very strong combo.

I think they’ll beat a few good sides this year.

We weren’t great - but this was a loseable game. 4 points is a relief.
McKercher will be playing for Tassie & Wardlaw is too gutsy for his own good. He has had a few concussions now so he'll need to ease up with the way he plays.

Yeah nah. Sorry that's BS.

Every grand final winner from the past 20 years has put up performances like that today.

Man . Brisbane had some proper stinkers on their way to looking so dominant in GFs.

Same with Richmond during their "Dynasty". They were the kings of winning ugly and just scrapping by.

Today. North played at a higher intensity and pressure than the swans. Yet the swans still won.
Just to add on to your point here Bomza, Brisbane averaged 8.5 losses in their two premiership seasons. A team as stacked as them wouldn't be losing nearly times a year unless they're having some absolutely bang average performances.

Take the 4pts and move on, a few key outs has thrown off the fluidity of first part of the season.

T-Mac and Serong key parts of the defence out which has impacted unfortunately.

Loved Edwards game, competed really well and doesn’t look out of place.

Sometimes you just need to grind out a win and that’s what we did today. North were up and about and we held on.

Good teams find a way to win and we scored over 100pts again, good signs offensively but need to tighten up all over the ground defensively.

Danger game avoided and hopefully a few key ins next week.

Well done Dos too, stuck it up a few on this board, crucial goal late too!

North's captain Nick Larkey has to be one of the most overrated players in the game. Dines out against the weaker teams.

Yet against the Swans, Cats and Lions he averages 8 disposals and has kicked 2 goals in 3 games. North were competitive in all three too.
