Recommitted Brad Hill [OOC 2024] - reportedly open to a trade, links to North Melbourne

Some people appear to missing the point here. Doesn't sound like Saints need to move him on, just Hill wants to get the band back together with Clarko. Given his output Saints would happily oblige but doubt they need to give an opposition club a helping hand. If he is on another front loaded contract this bloke is the biggest dog in the AFL.

I think Brad would want to move because there is more money on offer, that's why he went to Freo, that's why he went to St Kilda.
Big difference is he had value those times, I’d say this is most likely both sides being happy to mutually part ways

Brad Hill was traded for a top ten pick from Freo with contracted years to run and offered huge money to move.

It's entirely consistent to think St Kilda should demand the same if they want to retain him.

Whether a club would pay that is a different story, totally different discussion.
It’s not really consistent though. We got him at 26 entering his prime and he’s given us three solid but unspectacular years. He’s now 29 on a huge contract and worth less.

You’re dreaming if you think Saints will demand a top 10 pick for him. If he wants to leave then a deal will get done and because it’s a salary dump, Saints will no doubt accept a pick in the 30s or 40s.

The idea that he is worth a top 10 pick because Saints don't want to lose him is ridiculous. May as well say he is worth pick 1 and then some if we are just going down the route of naming a not for sale price. His value as a player is about a late 2nd / 3rd round pick. If Saints legitimately want to entertain offers then thats what they could expect

North Melbourne players have reached out to St Kilda wingman Brad Hill in a bid to lure him to Arden Street.

News Corp can reveal star Kangaroo Jy Simpkin has helped lead the charge to bring Hill to North Melbourne where he could reunite with master coach Alastair Clarkson next year.

Simpkin is one player who has contacted Hill recently about moving to a fourth club after stints at Hawthorn, Fremantle and St Kilda.

Hill, 29, has not felt fully supported at St Kilda at times this year and will discuss his future with the club at season’s endafter being moved around the ground to a back and forward flank.

He has struggled to reach his full potential in three seasons at St Kilda and has three more years remaining on a big-money contract.

Hill had 11 touches on Friday night against Brisbane Lions. It comes as the Saints announce a review of football operations after a disappointing season.

Ross Lyon, who coached Hill at Fremantle where he won a best and fairest, is adamant Hill is a gun wingman and one of the hardest runners in the game who still has some excellent football ahead of him.

But there are hurdles in the Kangaroos’ trade plan as the club currently only has one draft pick inside the first 50 selections.

North could either split its first pick (likely No.1) for multiple first round selections or rely on a priority pick from the AFL which could come at the end of the first round. A second round pick could also appeal to the Saints to get Hill’s salary off the books.

The Saints are set to go back to the draft and add more young talent after missing finals.

Clarkson and Hill caught up throughout the year and remain close friends. Hill is open to playing for Clarkson again.

If Clarkson lobs at North Melbourne, Hill could fill a big need on the wing.

Gold Coast is another club who could emerge for Hill as the Suns will have two early picks if Izak Rankine crosses to Adelaide, as expected.

Clarkson is weighing up offers to join North Melbourne and Essendon.

More to come.

Criminally over rated. No way he is worth the 900k???? A year he is rumoured to be on. Not a match winner. Cant win his own footy.

Very good offensively and with ball in hand though. But not much else going for him.

Would've thought North would have learnt from Jared Polec

If we were able to clear out his salary and get an early second round pick it would be alright for us.

Not sure that's how it'll go though.

Yep, can't see any StK supporters demanding anything more than that.

I like Hilly & reckon he's been very unfairly maligned by our supporter base but we really need to keep bringing kids in... so if we can snag a 2nd rounder, save some coin (maybe sling a few extra $ Amon's way as he would be a very capable replacement) then it's a no brainer IMO.

Yeah I think we just have to accept it didn't really work out for us and move on. If he wants to leave we should help him.

I rate him as a player, I think he's been alright, just not for the salary he's on. If he was on half of what he was, it would have been a good trade.

Freeing up his salary gives us a lot of options which is nice.

dunkley, lobb, neale, grundy, now hill. if players want to keep breaking these big long term contracts then the clubs need to be given more power as well.

There is no harm in the players asking the question. They have every right to try and get the best deal for themselves, it's a short career.

It's up to clubs to not get sucked in and correctly assess the players value, which is something St Kilda as a club aren't great at.

i dont mean about the dollars, im more talking about players signing a big contract (particularly if it was to move clubs like lobb, hill and neale) and then wanting to move halfway through. thats not something the clubs can anticipate, i think thye have every right to assume that if a player signs a 5 year contract to move to them that they will fulfill it.

I don't think you'll find many Saints fans surprised that Hill wants to move halfway through. He's done that with every contract he's had.

Contracts are just meant to hold a hostile party to account if they no longer want to fulfill their end. Contracts are mutually broken all the time in ways that help both the club and the player.

You can’t make this s**t up. Hill doesn’t feel supported despite being twice the size he was at Freo/Hawks and significantly underperforming his contract? North want him? If this is being pushed by Hill in any way shape or form the guy would have to be the biggest flog in the AFL

grundy doesnt want to be traded

neale was more smoke than fire considering hes recommitted this year until 2026

dunkley is ooc this year and was held to contract last time he wanted to move so the club seemed to have adequate power there

lobb was held to contract and is performing well this year

Settle down champ.

One of the nicest blokes in the game.

I wouldn't blame him from wanting out to be honest (and that's coming from a 30+year StK member)

Clarko has made contact with Brad. Also Brad contacted Simpkin, not the other way around.
