Has been identified by GC as the player to go the other way for JOM.

Shiels and their first will be the minimum.

Makes sense on GC's end with their pursuit of experienced players rather than picks. Could see Shiels maybe wanting to jump ship for a massively improved pay packet as well.

Shiels is one of the top 3 tacklers in the whole competition. He is very, very underrated outside of the club.

Clarko and the rest of the Club know his true value and will not be letting him go under any circumstances.

If you were to put together a list of 'untradeable' players at Hawthorn under the age of 30, he would probably be at the top of the list.

Only took a few days to get their "minimum" of 2x top 10 picks or best 22 players, down to a mid-late teens pick and a good (underrated but not a "star") player.

If true we're now much closer to my prediction (our first pick and a fringe player) than we are to their original demands.

We now have roughly a month to get them to take someone like Litherland instead of Shiels.

"Highly regarded sports reporter in Melbourne"... That would be a very small group of people.

If that are after a player who would you be putting on the table? They won't want an average player.

A number of names have been thrown up in terms of being tradeable - Sicily, Tim O'Brien, Langford, Litherland are probably the most notable.
I'm well aware that their value is lower than Shiels, but to a degree GC will need to take what they can get if the other option is to send JOM to the PSD and get nothing in return.

The guy is very very highly rated within our club.

IMO Graham Wright will be saying "No Deal"

With Mitchell & JOM supposedly arriving at your club next year & with the necessity to hold on to future draft picks because your top end will fall off rapidly in 2018, Wright, you will find, is going to have to sell Hawthorn's soul to get the job done!
It's not only a matter of salary cap. Loved players will go!
Other than Hill!

I love the authority on this one

I think we'll see both of Hawthorns 2016 and 2017 first rounders go, and with O'Meara/Mitchell, it fills a big part of the hole left by our impending departures. With FA, there's no reason we can't fill the rest of that hole with just salary cap space in the coming years.

Are you saying we have to sell our soul like the Swans did getting Buddy and Tippett that forced out Mumford and soon to be Mitchell?

I think you will find the Hawks will do some deals and it will not be soul selling.

His name is not Graham Wrong.

The issue surely is that due to the success of hawthorn, fringe players rarely get a go, and their lower tier players like Langford, O'Rourke, Whitecross, Woodward, duryea etc dont have anywhere near the currency.

Shiels make a lot of sense, and would be most likely to go.

The future of Hawthorn is based on JOM

Sicily wont be traded, the rest are list cloggers. All we would get out of that deal is a pick in the teens and a spud that plays in our reserves. Might as well just send JOM to the PSD

Yep send him to the PSD, except this deal was done months ago and both clubs will have a haggle over it to please the fans.

In reality the Hawks will pay a fraction over what they want and the Suns will settle for a fraction under what they want.

Not the type of player the Suns should be going after.
Nor the player the Hawks should trade with their midfield age but jaeger and titch change things.

Will look very average on the coast

I agree that Sicily won't be traded, but he is more likely than Shiels to go.

Trust in Wright. He will find a way to get a deal that is fair for both parties (and any 3rd/4th party involved - e.g. getting Barlow to GC).
You can't say that he has ever 'shafted' a club in trade. Maybe for Gunston, but that is balanced out by the 'overs' we paid at the time for Hale, Gibbo and Burgoyne.
