He was impressive in 2017 and towards the back of 2018, particularly when asked to play a more defensive role which wasn’t previously his strength. Would face stiff competition for a spot next year though with Mills, Smith, Melican, Ling and Stoddart all back.

One of those potentially great recruits in that he won’t cost too much and he’s got the ability to play well at the top level.

In a full strength Swans lineup with Mills, Smith, Melican, etc.... Newman would probably find himself in the NEAFL.

He will be a good pick though for a club that gets him. His 2017 form was way better than his matches this year.
