Opinion Sack Hinkley 10 - UnTENable

"not a lot of weapons". So in that case, we've destroyed our next few years' drafting to bring in the wrong guys? So Davies/Cripps need to go too?

The other thing that he ignores is the chicken-egg nature of success.

If Port wins at least one flag as expected over 2020/21 when the club won more games than any other, let alone two, all of a sudden the talent at his disposal isn’t just very good — it’s great.

But he absolves Ken of all that and just blames the cattle?

Seriously? 99.9 percent of the time players will think they can play no matter what, it's why old experienced heads in positions of authority need to pull them up & why it happens at professional clubs.. we are a joke

You can only go by what the player themselves are feeling. You can't see pain or know what another person is feeling, and as Hinkley said in the press conference before the game, he's been in situations with guys like Boak who have managed to come back from a hamstring strain earlier than anticipated.

I'm not absolving Hinkley of his part in it, and he's put his hand up and said he got it wrong. And sure, you can say that Rozee thought he was doing the right thing by putting his hand up to play because he wanted to be out there, and that it's the responsibility of a head coach to save the player from themselves. But at some point there has to be personal accountability for your actions.

"He thought he was absolutely right to play ... He was flat out two days in a row, no problems at all. Kicked the ball from 60 metres, had shots at goal.

One thing is certain - whenever Rozee does a soft-tissue injury from now on, the club will add an extra week after he says he's 'ready to play'.

Not to pour fuel on the fire lads....

I've spotted Rozee trying to be subtle and stretch the hammy out less than 5 mins into the first Q whilst he was on the bench.

He then feels his hammy, so you can bet he's aware of it THAT early into the game...

Our coach inherited a list full of list cloggers, wimps and spuds and has been there for literally 10 times less games than Hinkley yet somehow Kane despises him and is constantly on his case about where we're at like it's all his fault. His 4 premierships elsewhere are washed away with "Yeah, but what has he done lately" whereas your coach has had a strong list for several years and won precisely jack all. It's like he doesn't know which one is Ken and which one is Clarko. Which is odd as he was coached by both.

I think my mistake is that I listen to someone with zero integrity in the first place.
Clarko probably called him a bad name in 2004 when he was at Port and Kano is a vindictive little turd.

this quote is contrived baloney mate it's made up that's the key thing to understand

It’s weird.

In every other elite league when a coach exceeds initial expectations, the expectations get raised further and the pressure on the coach to keep matching that trajectory increases hand-in-hand.

In Aussie Rules a coach instantly receives a 3-5 year line of credit where only a complete collapse or personal scandal will result in his demise.
Correct - like Eddie Howe at Newcastle. Finishes top 4 in 2023 and qualifies for champions league with a pretty average squad sprinkled with a couple stars.

Fast forward to the 2024 season, Newcastle are decimated with injuries and fall down to around 6-8th and the media start the agenda of sacking him/talking about replacements.

So when he sent Aliir back out after he was completely out cold on the ground have they started adding an extra week to him too?

Had Hinkley actually won the 2014 flag he’d be here until he dies of acute hake poisoning.

This would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that we played clearly injured players during last season, including 2 that were concussed.

It's a pattern of behaviour from our coaches to err on the side of getting them back out there. He's like Coach Kilmer from Varsity Blues without the success.

I wonder how many player managers are on the phone to Alberton today, expressing concern their clients are playing for a club and coach who’ll happily risk their long-term health to win a Round 8 game?

On the back of concussion-gate, and Lycett publicly stating he turned down a (admittedly lowball) contract offer to go work a 9-to-5 for half the money to protect his flogged body.

There’s a story here for a brave soul in the AFL media scrum willing to get dirty.

Hes paid to sit on his backside and not do his job….

I dunno why Kane finds him so charming and needs to protect him.
There is more to it than this too. There is a cultural war at Port between supporters. The older SANFL Port Adelaide supporters most of whom have handed in their memberships because they are appalled by the reign of Hinkley.
And the younger turn up to watch a game on Saturday night for something to do.
They were not around for Port SANFL success and are on the Koch wavelength of we are a competitive team but unlucky.
Most supporters are coming to the realisation they have been duped by this imposter so let the blood letting begin.
If you ever see the words Southern Power that is this Port Adelaide lite brand that Koch and Hinkley stand for.
As for Port Adelaide old time SANFL supporters believe in utter ruthlessness to achieve the goal of winning but by making smart decisions and having good strategies in place.
As for Kane he would be the CEO of Southern Power.
Hinkley is pretty much a meme now but we are conflicted because of our love of the club.
We love the club that's why we want Hinkley and Koch gone, they are parasites.

Ever heard of peer pressure ???

When the forward line at both AFL and SANFL level is packed, and absolutely everyone is flat footed waiting for a hoof-ball, I wonder why I bother watching this crap.

Jurgen Klopp takes over fallen giant Liverpool in 2015. Wins every trophy available. Announces earlier this year he's given his all, is tired and needs to step down. There's someone thinking of the club first and leaving it in a better place than when you started.

Complete opposite of the selfish prick we are stuck with.

Ranieri at Leicester is even more amazing.

2 May 2016, has taken Leicester from a relegation candidate to a 5000-1 miracle EPL title (top, not just a charmed finals run like say 2016 Bulldogs)

23 February 2017, is sacked by Leicester nine months after a title as the club returnes to relegation candidates. Luke Beveridge is still coach of the Bulldogs.

Check out the mastermind Hinkley thinking of his next move....he literally looks like a supporter waiting for his mate with beers.

Yes, but this is coming from a guy who said that he realised he got it wrong last year in playing players that weren't ready to go (ala Lycett who should have went for surgery as soon as he wasn't right to go in the Carlton game). He rested Dixon against Collingwood even when we were missing Finlayson and Lord because he knew that Dixon only has a certain number of games in him. We rested Wines for a week as soon as he reported hamstring tightness. We sent Soldo in for surgery as soon as he reported soreness in his knee. Are those the actions of someone who hasn't learned his lesson in playing injured players?

And while Rozee is important to the side, he's not that important that taking a risk and it paying off was going to be the difference between winning and losing...but taking a risk and it not paying off was definitely going to help us lose.

Of course, then you look at the performance of the Magpies team and you think - 'Who the heck do we have to replace him?' Finlayson was obviously never going to be considered when Hinkley tells a lie and says that he needs to get games into him when Powell-Pepper came straight back into the side after a four week suspension (that rubbish hindsight justification for not selecting Finlayson from Hinkley really pissed me off).

I mean, in hindsight what we could have done is played Lorenz on the wing and shifted Bergman into the midfield to replace Rozee.
