Autopsy 14 point win vs GWS/Umpires

Don't usually bother whinging about umpiring when we win.....but **** it was bad today, like really, really bad. It wasn't even just a few calls or mistakes here or there bad....it was completely different interpretations for the 2 teams bad. Holding the ball and high contact were completely different depending on jumper.
It was the kind of umpiring that brings out conspiracy theories. The general standard of officiating has reached diabolically bad levels though since Dillion & Kane took over, didn't think it could've gotten much worse but it has with these 2 in charge.

i clearly referenced the gameday thread.

Yes, but as good as the win was it just brings the overarching question of how the hell umpiring like today can still happen in a said to be professional league

Because nothing is being done to even attempt to improve it.

Today was something else tho i watched Lloyd get coathanged the umpire was a few meters away "play on" and then 10secs later gets Heeney for "HTB"

Thats team bias or instruction rather than a 50/50 going against us.

Pretty much the first game I've genuinely enjoyed this season. The big picture:
1) Pressure right up and maintained.
2) Handling much cleaner.
3) Looking for teammates and trusting them.
4) GWS wanted to fight. No backing down.
5) Many individuals played better.
Individuals:
Tom McCartin best game this year on Hogan.
Sam Wicks a really complete game.
Chad Warner a very unselfish game.
Heeney a kinda normal good game.
A number of players who had been criticised played better. Florent for instance. The only one I was disappointed in was Hayward. He really struggled to make a serious impact.
The regular and fringe players all contributed.
Replacing Melican for 1-4 weeks will be tricky. Probably move Hamling back and Ladhams back in.

Much more 1-on-1 & less zone defence too.

Whilst I think Campbell needs more touches, I think that could be how we use him, because even on Tv I feel like you see him running constantly and chasing, making space, just unrewarded work.

Similarly felt like Bice and Cleary putting in a lot of efforts and chasing too.

I think the reality is Campbell wont make it he doesnt have any standout or emerging attributes with 5 seasons in a successful club.

Like there is just nothing there as a player so far and i dont see it changing.

I think there’s a question over if he can become a consistent high level player, but I mean he has already made it as a player at the very least though

I want him to succeed so much as we have put a ton of investment into him but at the moment he has no identity.

Not a tackle/pressure player/goal scorer/disposal getter

Maybe im over the top but he is Gary Rohan without the goals

Great to see a win without Heeney dominating the POTY votes.

Lots of good contributions today.

At half time I was worried Corey & Cleary hasn’t done much. But they both came into it in the 2nd half.

Pretty much everyone did their bit today.

Except the umps. They should be joining the Centrelink line tomorrow. Especially the bald bloke.

That's the Warner we paid for. He made the running that gave us the gap early but gee whiz I wish he would play the full game out sometimes. Still great game and I guess it is impossible to be that dominant all the way through. By far and away his best for the year and a lot of last year too.

Thought JJ deserved more love. Warner, and Heeny, got the lead but later on in the game JJ made sure we won it offensively and defensively. He brings so much to the side.

And please correct me but is the best lead up forward in the Club Francis? Who else has given us that for 24 months or so? Well done esepcially against the backs he played on. Special shout out to Hamling as well. That was the most functional forward line I have seen in 2 years.

Great win out of nowhere really. If we were a racehorse we would be swabbed.

And one last shout out. Thanks goodness we can play nasty. We have been so nice to play against recently it hurt. Finally some mongrel. great stuff.

Should have won by 7 goals. If we'd kicked straight this year we might have six wins on the board.

They got hold of us in Q2 but for once we regrouped and had the initiative in the second half.

A lot of players stepped up. McInerney's best game all year. Having him and Wicks back and contributing made a difference. I'm definitely on the Cleary bandwagon.

Hamling's first goal was a nice moment. Who else was thinking of Lewis Jetta and drama around his first goal?

Rowbottom can stay captain. He's a great Brett Kirk-type of player and leader - modestly talented player who's made it on grit and can inspire.
