Alright, let's say one of those two decide to go home.

Screw dealing with Geelong. I'd rather deal with Carlton and if it's Duggan, ask for one of Carroll, SPS or Fisher, and second or third rounder.

Or for Brander, same deal but probably not as good a pick.

But I'd rather keep both.

Go all out- Send Brander & WC's 1st rounder to Carlton for SPS & their 1st.

If Johnson could work on his defensive game he would be a very good small defender who can play on the slippery small forwards of the comp . We very much lack this type of defender . His kicking would then be a bonus
If Johnson were better at defending he'd be a good defender ha ha. Sorry, not having a dig, just reads funny

All true.

Fair to note though that Geelong has a decent leg-up in the cost-of-living stakes. $400k at Geelong is probably roughly equal to $500-550k at a Melb/Syd/Perth club (assuming most of the money goes to housing/mortgage).
I disagree with this. Just because they live in a city where housing costs less, doesn't mean it's the same earning say $400k a year vs $500k. I.e. their house is also an investment & an asset, so while they may be able to afford just as nice a house, it will be worth less, and this will impact them if they ever decide to move away from Geelong, which I imagine is pretty likely.

If Duggan is really set on going, would we be better off getting a first round pick this year instead of JC?

Draft gurus - Isn't it a really deep draft for midfielders this year?
Monocle Eastcoasteagle AsterixTheGaul

I understand there is more risk as the players are unknown.
Would you rather pick up an Erasmus, Johnson, Hobbs, Callaghan or take a more known quantity and swap JC with the Cats. (Plus upgrade another pick I suppose, grab Chipper, Browne or Clark for example)
I'd take the pick. Clarke himself was only pick 15 and would have slipped in value since then

Watches Dragons vs Eastern Ranges today, I was keen to watch Tyler Sonsie who was touted top 5 pick and just behind Horne and Daicos in many ratings.
Really didn't show much to me, even had a few cringe moments like not going hard enough in the goal square to gather the ball and rebound, resulted in easy opposition goal. For me this guy is a real draft slider.

Finn Callighan for mine was superb and probably takes his spot at number 3 in the draft ratings. Again played inside midfield, often on Sonsie and was dominant. Kicking broke the game open and led to goals, layed a big tackle right in front (heard the slap), good hands in tight whilst being tackled. He's rising fast and in my opinion will do a Taranto or Hunter Clark and come in from pick 20 projection to pick 3 to 5.

No Chesser again and Sinn was the runner, but think they probably played school footy already.
And Andrew Brayshaw

I must be one of the few who simply don't rate SPS.

In fact i'll say it. He's s**t. I'd towel him up with a fend off myself then make him look silly with a shake and bake.

Just don't think he impacts games or does anything special as an AFL player whatsoever. Lots of 15m dinky kicks.

15 touches and 1 tackle a game in 2021.

Would take Brander every day of the week by the length of Pav's nose.

Both Jamo and Johnson are two kids that I'm more than happy to give a bit more time on our list. Both lost a year of development due to covid and both are physically underdeveloped for their position. They've also shown a bit of promise this season at WAFL level tho. BJ like to break the lines and use his speed to complement his kicking which really excited me but I hope we don't coach it out of him. Been a huge fan of Rotham and it looks like we totally coached that area of his game out of him.

Just wondered where you got the info from?
Nah don't know his old man just some guys from his juniors who know him .

They seems pretty excited about this kid.

Got any idea why West coast haven't interviewed him ?

Ducks and drakes ? Or they already know everything ?

Look I agree with you that Brander shits all over SPS but

Brander 15.9 touches and 1 tackle in 2021

SPS 15.5 touches and 1 tackle in 2021 (twice the sub)

feel like we at the tip of the iceberg regarding Branders talent but. A guy his size with his attributes is something to hold on to.
Agreed but SPS is also being played out of position and his strengths not utilised.

I would be happy just to keep brander and Add SPS to our list .

Carlton couldn't expect too much in the way of pick compo for an OOC player who isn't even getting a game .

That being said would he get a game in our midfield?

Would narkle be a better player to target ?

WC don't really need Brander.

Harry, TB, Gov and Rotham aren't being overtaken by him down back.

OA, JD and Waterman are locks you would think up forward post JK. There's also a strong chance Ethan Regan is taken later this year. Another taller, strong marking utility.

Luke Edwards has slotted in on a wing and has a similar running profile to Brander (plus ball winning), and Gaff isn't going anywhere.

Is Brander happy being a fringe player who's called in only when others are injured? Is he okay with not being played in his preferred positions?

It's not a good fit imo. If it were me I'd definitely be leaving for more opportunity.

This Saad v Hind article has me thinking whether we keep Petruccelle as a small forward or use his pace as someone who breaks lines out of defence. I recall seeing him play for Vic Metro in defence in a game at Subiaco.

What we do not have is anyone who will take the game on running through the centre corridor. Sheed is often in the corridor but not what I’d call with line breaking speed. Watching the way Essendon look for him, I can see we would have players to feed him and it would add another dimension to the slow chip around exit from defence!!!!

You are describing Ben Johnson.

He also provides a superb boot and is a natural defender, unlike Petch.

Isn't that Duggo though?
I think we are missing him more than we think from half back, not sold on him in the middle at all.
Together with Shep currently on one ankle, hope they strap the thing now regardless of what he wants.

Reckon Brander has more upside than all of Harry, Rotham, Waterman and Edwards. He's looking the goods despite being moved all over the place. When they eventually settle on a position for him, be it forward, back or wing, i think he will be a gun. He's got the size and skill.

Victorian raised, out of contract at season end, yet to sign a new contract or have a media article written saying he is about to sign.

Pretty stock standard for this board to melt down and make the best out of the 'fire sale' that the above scenario evokes in many posters' imaginations...

On SM-G986B using BigFooty.com mobile app

Melting???? What melting?

OK

Like who would be silly enough to even speculate that a player coming out of contract, who hasn't re-signed, who reportedly contemplated a move back to Victoria before re-signing last time may ask to be traded home. Especially with the silence coming from the club regarding a contract extension.

I mean THAT's just crazy hey!:think::cool:
