I'll admit I've been impacted by Stockholm syndrome with this club over the past few off-seasons - 'of COURSE 'insert' mega-super-important-player wants to leave let's just get everything we can for them!'
Darcy is one of the best ruckman in the league, and one of our most versatile and important players. Combine that with Jackson and it think these two can work it together to build a formidable ruck powerhouse.

Was hoping for a shorter contract for him. It is what it is. Jackson just has to improve his fwd craft as Darcy is a ruck and nothing else. Hopefully his body holds together.

The market has changed over the last couple of years - 5 and 6 year extensions are pretty normal now. It just means a player is in demand.
It's generally always better to have players signed up than out of contract - the impact on the list having a bunch of out of contract players negotiating contracts is way more disruptive than a couple of long term deals, no matter what Kane Cornes says. We now know what our budget is for incoming players etc plus don't have uncertainty around players leaving. This is very much a good thing

Think you are completely off base. We have an area of strength now, that no team can match easily. Our coaches have a responsibility to make it work. If they can’t take advantage of ruck dominance, then they aren’t the right coaches.

I mean, for all we know he took an unders deal, he’s seems to be the type who might do that sort of thing.
And anyway, the measure of this deal will ultimately about whether we win flags, the club see him as a key piece in the jigsaw of our first premiership side.
Stoked we signed him up, seems like a ripping guy, clearly driven and very talented.

Surely any coach in the league would be licking his lips at the chance of working with the guys we have signed up long term.
